Balsall Common Primary School Balsall Street East, Balsall Common, Coventry CV7 7FS Tel: 01676 532254 Email: [email protected] Press Release _____________________________________ For immediate release 7 May 2015 Turbo Powered Team Work Three teams from Balsall Common Primary School had the chance to design and race their own F1 cars as part of a F1 in schools challenge. 12 Year 4 pupils worked in three teams to create the most aerodynamic cars possible. As well as making the cars, the teams had to secure sponsors, deliver presentations to a judging team and answer questions about their project. They were able to use the latest computer aided design technology and printers to make the cars. Then the teams raced the cars along a 20m track, powered by gas canisters, taking less than 1.5 seconds to cover the distance. Team Turbo, Fire Blaze and Lightning Strike worked incredibly hard supporting each other, maximising their talents and building on the excellent support offered by Ian Dunning a designer from Jaguar Land Rover who was on hand to guide their work and gently suggest improvements. The teams were a credit to their school and the village, behaving impeccably, showing great drive and determination to make the cars and the whole project as good as it could be. Claire Turner from Wow! Signal Communications said: “I was really pleased to be able to support this amazing day. It is such a fantastic project for the pupils to get involved in, with the chance to use the latest technology and experience the thrill of racing their own car designs”. Well done to Eddie T, James B, Anya B, Bless B-A, Oscar N, Ben W, Nicole B, Kiran C, Haydon P, Nicole W, Emily S, and Joseph W. The standard of competition this year was extremely high and despite their best efforts, none of the teams made it through to the national final but Team Turbo did deliver the Best Verbal Presentation.
