Turbo Powered Team Work
Three teams from Balsall Common Primary School had the chance to design and race their own F1
cars as part of a F1 in schools challenge.
12 Year 4 pupils worked in three teams to create the most aerodynamic cars possible. As well as
making the cars, the teams had to secure sponsors, deliver presentations to a judging team and
answer questions about their project. They were able to use the latest computer aided design
technology and printers to make the cars. Then the teams raced the cars along a 20m track,
powered by gas canisters, taking less than 1.5 seconds to cover the distance.
Team Turbo, Fire Blaze and Lightning Strike worked incredibly hard supporting each other,
maximising their talents and building on the excellent support offered by Ian Dunning a designer
from Jaguar Land Rover who was on hand to guide their work and gently suggest improvements.
The teams were a credit to their school and the village, behaving impeccably, showing great drive
and determination to make the cars and the whole project as good as it could be.
Howard Rose, Funding and Publicity Manager at Balsall Common Primary School said: "Thanks to
Jaguar Land Rover, to Wow! Signal Communications as sponsor and official blogger on the day, and
to local businesses Signarama, Fleet Evolution, Sutherpark Ltd, KWI Grinding, Lavender Hall Auto
Repairs, Abstract, Sainsburys and ByteSize Tuition for their support to cover some of the costs of the
team’s work."

amazing day. It is such a fantastic project for the pupils to get involved in, with the chance to use the
