Just a week before Christmas I had a visitor . This is how it happened. I just finished the household chores for the night and was pre-paring to go to bed, when I heard a noise in the front of the house. I opened the door to the front room and to my surprise, Santa him-self stepped out next to the fireplace.

“ What are you doing?” I started to ask. The words choked up in my throat and I saw he had tears in his eyes. His usual jolly manner was gone. Gone was the eager , boisterous soul we all know. He then answered me with a simple statement . . .

“ TEACH THE CHILDREN!” I was puzzled. What did he mean? He anticipated my question and with one quick movement brought forth a miniature toy bag from behind the tree. As I stood bewildered, Santa said, “ Teach the chil-dren!

Teach them the old meaning of Christmas. The meaning that now-a-days Christmas has forgotten. “ Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a FIR TREE and placed it before the mantle. “ Teach the children that the pure green color of the stately firtree remains gr een all year round, depicting the ever lasting hope of mankind, all the needles point heav-enward, making it a symbol of man’s thoughts turning toward heaven.”

He again reached into his bag and pulled out a brilliant STAR. “ Teach the children that the star was the heavenly sign of promises long ago. God promised

A Savior for the world, and the star was the sign of fulfillment of His promise.”

He then reached into his bag and pulled out a CANDLE. “ Teach the children that the candle symbolizes that Christ is the light of the wor ld, and when we see this great light we are reminded of He who displaces the darkness.”

Once again he reached into his bag and re-moved a WREATH and placed it on the tree. “ Teach the children that the wreath symbolizes the real nature of love. Real love never ceases. Love is one continuous round of affection.”He then pulled from his bag an ORNAMENT of himself. “ Teach the children that I, Santa Claus, symbolize the generosity and good will we feel during the month of December .”

He then brought out a HOLLY LEAF. “ Teach the children that the holly plant represents immortality. It represents the crown of thorns worn by our Savior . The red holly berries rep-resent the blood shed by Him.

Next he pulled from his bag a GIFT and said, “ Teach the children that God so loved the world that he gave his begotten son.” Thanks be to God for his unspeak-able gift.Santa then reached in his bag and pulled out a CANDY CANE and hung it on the tree. “ Teach the children that the candy cane represents the shepherds’ crook. The crook on the staff helps to bring back strayed sheep to the flock. The candy cane is the symbol that we are ourbrother ‘s keeper .”

He reached in again

True Meaning

of Christmasand pulled out an ANGEL. “ Teach the children that it was the angels that her alded in the glorious news of the Savior ‘s birth. The angels sang Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace and good will toward men.”

Suddenly I heard a soft twinkling sound, and from his bag he pulled out a BELL,. “ Teach the children that as the lost sheep are found by the sound of the bell, it should ring mankind to the fold. The bell symbolizes guidance andreturn.

S a n t a looked back and was pleased. He l o o k e d back at me and I saw that the twink le was back in his eyes. He said, “ Remember , teach the c h i l - dren the true meaning

of Christmas and do not put me in the center

, for I am but a humble servant of the One

that is, and Ibow down to wor-

ship him, our LORD, our GOD.”

I have issues with Santa. You know, the big jolly guy in red who comes around once a year. In a sleigh. Pulled by fl ying reindeer. Did I mention he comes down the chimney? My problem is this: we’re supposed to be focus-ing on the birth of Christ. You know, the One who said He is the way the TRUTH and the life. Christ equals truth. So if that’s the case, then why do we continue to deceive our children with the false notion of Santa Claus? I know what you’re probably thinking. What a prude! What a party pooper! Her poor kid!

It’s not that my husband and I purposely tell our six-year-old there is no Santa. But she doesn’t learn about Santa at home. She learns about him at school by singing songs like “Up on the Housetop” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” She learns about him wherever she goes with people constantly asking her “what is Santa bringing you?”

Personally, I get a kick out her perplexity, like why is everyone asking me this same ques-tion. And I love her response - “a Christmas tree.” I also love the fact that I do not have a materialistic child. She doesn’t need every toy when going down the toy aisle and she nev-er asks, whines, or screams about want-ing toys either. Whether it’s because of her disability or not, she just isn’t concerned with “stuff ”. The most important things to her are knowing there are peo-ple who take care of her and that there are people in her life who love her. Those are her main con-cerns, not whether or not she can have the lat-est and greatest toy.

The reason we choose not to tell our child that Santa doesn’t exist is because we don’t want her to “ruin it” for other children and have their par-ents get upset with us. Like I said, she kind of knows about Santa but I don’t think she really gets it. Plus she knows that if cook-ies were left out on the table, her dad would be the fi rst to grab them to drink with his morning coff ee! I think we demean children when we purposely deceive them, thinking they’re not smart enough to fi gure it out.

Instead of teaching her about this fat guy who

We made Happy Birthday Jesus cupcakes and passed them out with a little note saying, “we hope you enjoy this Happy Birthday Jesus cupcake.” We gave them to all of her medical providers, her caretak-ers and her therapists and teachers at school. Some seemed to have tears in their eyes when they read the little note. I just love that my daughter came up with that idea and I know it will probably continue to be a Christmas tradition in our family. Merry Christmas every-

Methods To Help Lower Your Vacation Cost

We all know that traveling on a vacation will usually cost us heaps amount of money, es-pecially if the destination is overseas. Some-times, we cancel our holiday plan just because we are running out of budget. However, it does not have to happen if we know how to manage our holiday cost in the most eff ective and effi cient way. Here are some methods on how to travel without spending too much.

Buying tickets from a small travel agent or from the local forums turned out to be cheap-er than buying it directly from the airline or from a well-known travel agent. For a cheaper ticket, try to buy round-trip rather than buy-ing a one-way ticket as one-way ticket will cost you more. Also make sure you do not bring too much luggage for excess baggage will add to the cost of the trip. If you travel to a city or country that is indeed a famous tour-ist spot, try to stay in hotels located in small towns on the outskirts. For example, if you want a cheap holiday in Bali then avoid stay-ing in Kuta, Nusa Dua or Ubud area.

Staying in Gianyar or Tabanan is generally much cheaper.

When you are going on vacation in a location that has train as the main transportation, try to fi nd a prepaid train card that can cover the areas you are about to travel for the whole period of your stay. It will be cheaper than buying a single ticket every time you have to change your destination. Avoid using taxis, and if possible renting a car will be less ex-pensive than having to use diff erent means of transport every time you want to visit a tourist location.

Before you start visiting those major tourist attractions, you might want to consider eat-ing more food at breakfast. Usually, the hotels where you stayed in have included breakfast package for the price you paid. For lunch, tryeating at places you already know the price of. Fast food restaurant may be a good choice, but you can always look for alternatives if that does not suit your healthy life-style.

At lunch, eat as much as your stomach can take so that your stomach is suffi ciently fi lled until dinner. If possible, cook your own dinner at the lodge to reduce cost as dinner at the restaurant can be very expensive. Moreover, keep your drinking water bottle, so when it is empty you can fi ll it at the nearest tap (many countries outside Indonesia provide tap wa-ter where people can directly drink from).

Shopping for branded souvenirs are usu-ally cheaper at duty free shops because it is tax-free. Just bear in mind that you can only pick up your purchase at the airport before you go home, so never shop at the duty free if you plan to use the product straight away. Inexpensive souvenirs are also available in traditional markets, which is usually located roadside. Sometimes they off er many inter-esting local products which cannot be found in bigger shops. Just never forget to bargain when you shop from this location. Mastering the local language can also be much of a help to get lowest prices possible. -ran-

Ensuring Home Security When Left On A Vacation

If you are planning a short or long vacation with the whole family, the fi rst issue you should consider is your home security be-cause usually, an empty house is an easy tar-get for thieves and robbers.

You may also want to remember that despite the fact you have a housekeeper at home, you must remain alert to any risks that may occurduring the time you left. Here are some tips to keep your house safe when you are on vaca-tion.

Make Copy Of Important Documents Before leaving, remember to make copies all of im-portant documents belong to family mem-bers who are going on the vacation. Passport, credit cards, ID cards and driver’s license are documents that you should copy to avoid un-desirable incident, such as loss of passport, data input error, and so on. Leave one copy at home, and bring another one with you when traveling.

Check The Condition of Your house Periodically This action can be taken if there are domes-tic helpers or any person in charge of maintaining your house. Make sure you call home and

ask for its condition at least once a day.

Ask Family or Friend To Watch Over For Your House. For those of you who do not have a domestic worker, you could take the option of leaving the house to your family,

local security or neighbors that you trust. Ask them to keep the lights on and off at the most suitable time. If there is any, do not forget to report to the local security about your depar-ture. Otherwise, you could alert a friend about your temporary leave and ask them to check on your house periodically.

Avoid Giving An Impression Of An Empty House

Ask your neighbor to fetch the newspaper or letters lying on the front yard or inside your mail-box so your house does not look empty. Another trick is to put some slippers on the front door so it will give the impression that anyone was inside.

Ensure Safe Electrical Contacts Turn off and unplug all sorts of electrical

contacts that

you are not using while on vacation. They in-clude dispenser, televisions, water heaters, and so on. Simply turn on the basic equip-ments you need, such as a refrigerator or air conditioner. Do check back before you lock the house and go on vacation.-ran-

Besakih Temple is a complex of temples that are located in the village of Besakih, Bali. The complex consists of one main temple (Pe-nataran Agung Besakih) and 18 other side temples. Pura Besakih has been on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995.

The Besakih Temple is the center of activities of all temples in Bali. That is why it is called the mother temple. Among all included in the Besakih complex, Penataran Agung Besakih is the largest temple when compare to other 18 temples. In this main area, there are 3 major statues as symbols of the Gods, namely Brah-ma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver) and Shiva (God of reincarnation).

The physical presence of Besakih Temple is not only considered as home of the Gods. Ac-cording to Hindu religious belief, the place has a background connection with Mount Agung, the highest mountain on the island of Bali which is believed to be the central gov-ernment of all nature spirits. The philosophical meaning behind the Be-sakih temple’s development contains ele-ments of culture that includes: knowledge systems, life of equipment and technology, social organizations, source of living, lan-guage system, religion and ceremonies, and artistry. The seventh element of culture is em-bodied in the form of cultural ideas, a form ofcultural activity, and the form of material cul-ture.

It is very easy to fi nd this temple in Bali where most of the people have known it, in particu-lar the Balinese Hindu. It is about 2 hours away from Bali’s International Airport by car to the east part of Bali and located right in Besakih Village, Rendang – Karangasem Regency. Be-cause this temple has the most visitors in Bali, the area is equipped with very good tourist facilities like large parking area, shops, restau-rants and accommodations.-wid-

At the end of 2011, most investors are start-ing to dig for ideas about diff erent kind of business strategy they could implement to increase revenues in 2012.

In relation to that, economist and Director of Investor Relations at Bahana TCW, Budi Hik-mat in his research, published in Jakarta on Monday (12/12/2011) revealed some tips that investors could use to increase their wealth in 2012.

He suggested investors to implement the capital preservation method when investing their money. It means investors should avoid losing their basic capital by investing their money into investment products that could beat the infl ation rate. According to his calcu-lation, the only investment products, which had successfully beaten the infl ation rate was

Ideas For Investment - Gold and Stocks Are Proven To Beat The

gold and stocks.

He added that along 2011, people’s purchas-ing power has decreased signifi cantly as a result of higher infl ation rate when compare to their revenues because most people tend to invest their money in unproductive invest-ment products.

“In terms of performance, gold was proven to came in balance with stocks over the last fi ve years. This happened because there was an excess of liquidity in the money market, weakening the value of USD. The decrease ofbank interest rate was also playing a major role in driving the price of gold,” he said.

Moreover, people could expect the price of gold to reach higher level as a result of the action taken by central banks of developing

countries which are now diversifying their foreign exchange reserves by reducing their stock of dollars and piling up on gold instead.

“We expect the Fed to be more careful when pouring liquidity into the market as we al-ready have high growth of money supply at present. But we must also consider that the growing needs to refi nancing the debt would lead to international interest rates moving up. In relation to this, gold will defi nitely have more competitors in the future,” he said.

Access to improved water and sanitation cili-ties does not, on its own, necessarily lead to improved health. There is now very clear evi-dence showing the importance of hygienic behaviour, in particular hand-washing with soap at critical times after defecating and be-fore eating or preparing food.

Hand-washing with soap can significantly re-duce the incidence of diarrhoea, which is the second leading cause of death amongst chil-dren under five years old. In fact, recent stud-ies suggest that regular hand-washing with soap at critical times can reduce the number of diarrhoea bouts by almost 50 per cent.

Good hand-washing practices have also been shown to reduce the incidence of other dis-eases, notably pneumonia, trachoma, scabies,

The Importance Of Hygieneskin and eye infections and diarrhoea-related diseases like cholera and dysentery. The pro-motion of hand-washing with soap is also a key strategy for controlling the spread of Avian Influenza (bird flu).

The key to increasing the practice of hand-washing with soap is to promote behavioural change through motivation, information and education. There are a variety of ways to do this including high-profile national media campaigns, peer-to-peer education tech-niques, hygiene lessons for children in schoolsand the encouragement of children to dem-onstrate good hygiene to their families and communities. So, how many times have you washed your hands with soap today?
