CHAPTER II

THEORY RELATED TO STUDY

TANAH LOT

Tanah Lot is located in the

southwest on Bali not far away from

Denpasar and Kuta. The temple is one

of the most famous temples on Bali.

On reason is the beautiful location, an

otherthecharacteristicarchitecture. The

temple becomes a tourist trap in the

last few years and it is one of the most visited attractions on Bali. Thats one

reason why it should be no problem to get there. The other reason is the small

distance to the large tourist centers. Nusa is one proof of the tourism boom in Bali.

This area is designed as a BTDC (Bali Tourism Development Center) aka Bali tourism

development center.

After bypass all the souvenir

stalls you will usually left alone and

can relax. We recommend to go in

the evening to Tanah Lot, because of

the beautiful sunset. Join this while

having a dinner or just watching the

sun diving into the red coloured

water.

At low water it is possible to walk to the temple, but only Hindus are allowed to go

to the top of the temple which is situated on the top of a cliff. Indonesia is

undoubtedly a dream destination for tourists who wish to enjoy a relaxing vacation.

Indonesia is a world of fantasies where there are almost endless numbers of things to

do and see. The picturesque island of Bali in Indonesia has got many popular tourist

attractions and Tanah Lot is onl one of them.Tanah Lot is only one of the popular

recreational tourist attractions in Bali, which is a must visit for all who go to the

island.

by a famous Hindu monk known as the Pura Tanah Lot .Tanah Lot can best be

described as a famous rock formation off the Indonesian coast of Bali. During high

water, the rock takes on the appearance of a large boat at sea .Tanah Lot

is a popular

tourist destination visited by tourists from different parts of the globe.

TANJUNG BENOA NUSA DUA

Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa,

Nusa Dua, which is located at the

southern tip of the island district of

Bali, offers a variety of beauty tours

and water sports.Numerous in this

region such as Nikko Bali, Westin,

Ayodya Resort (formerly Bali Hilton

International) and other international

hotels.While the area of Tanjung Benoa adjacent to Nusa Dua, is the center of water

sports like banana boat. This place is visited by many families and foreign tourists,

because it is very suitable for families, especially children.

GARUDA WISNU KENCANA

About Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural

ParkDesigned and built by Nyoman Nuarta, one of

Indonesias foremost modern sculptor, the Garuda

Wisnu Kencana statue or GWK and its pedestal

building will be standing 150 meters tall with its wings

span 64 meters across.Made from more than 4000 tons

of copper and brass, the statue is picturing Lord Wisnu,

as the source of wisdom, riding on the back of the

mythical bird Garuda as the manifestation of conscience toward Amerta, the perennial

goodness.

The statue and its pedestal will be surrounded by more than 240 hectares

cultural park which was once an abandoned and unproductive limestone quarry. The

cultural park will provide attractions for both local and foreign visitors with supporting

facilities such as Lotus Pond,

Festival Park, Amphitheater, Street Theater, Exhibition Hall, as well as Jendela Bali

The Panoramic Resto and souvenir shop. At present time,

the statue of Wisnu, the statue of Garuda, and the hands of Wisnu have been

placed temporarily in three different plazas within the park.

GWK Cultural Park is intended to educate, especially the young generations

about the importance of preserving and cultivating worlds cultural heritage.

TARI BARONG

Barong is probably the most well

known dance. It is also another story telling

dance, narrating the fight between good and

evil. This dance is the classic example of

Balinese way of acting out mythology,

resulting in myth and history being blended

into one reality.

The story goes that Rangda, the mother of Erlangga, the King of Bali in the

tenth century, was condemned by Erlangga's father because she practiced black magic.

After she became a widow, she summoned all the evil spirits in the jungle, the leaks

and the demons, to come after Erlangga. A fight occurred, but she and her black magic

troops were too strong that Erlangga had to ask for the help of Barong. Barong came

with Erlangga's soldiers, and fight ensued. Rangda casted a spell that made Erlangga

soldiers all wanted to kill themselves, pointing

their poisoned keris into their own stomachs and

chests. Barong casted a spell that turned their body

resistant to the sharp keris. At the end, Barong

won, and Rangda ran away.

Somebody can die or get seriously injured

in a Barong dance. It is said that if Rangda's spell is too strong, a weak soldier may not

be able to resist it, even with the help of Barong. He may end up hurting himself with

his own keris.

The masks of Barong and Rangda are considered sacred items, and before they

are brought out, a priest must be present to offer blessings by sprinkling them with

holy water taken from Mount Agung, and offerrings must be presented.
