Pg 8 Although the current economic climate has created some uncertainty in the real estate market, now is still a good

time to buy and sell. Interest rates are at a record low and are predicted to drop even further and the first home owners grant has dramatically increased the number of buyers in the market.

This leads to an optimum market for both buyers and sellers.

When selling your property it is vital to do your research and find the right agent, not one that can just sell your property but one that truly is interested in you as well as achieving the maximum price.

Independent agency Reinhardt & Slater services clients across Brisbane’s North West from their base in Albany Creek. Dramatically raising the bar, they have combined new technologies, the latest thinking in marketing and a special emphasis on property presentation in order to help sellers achieve top dollar for their home.

The agency Principals, Bryan Reinhardt & Bruce Slater, go to great lengths to find the unique signature elements of a home that make it stand out from the rest. They then craft a story around that element to engage the right buyers.

The team often use a combination of new and old methods to match buyers with newly

listed homes. Blog updates, sms, video tours and email play an important role and make a powerful difference when combined with proven traditional methods of newspaper, mail outs and flyers.

Behind Reinhardt & Slater’s enthusiasm for this new way of doing business lies more that 30 years combined experience in marketing and real estate, primarily in the local area. Despite their success the pair have no plans to expand the business outside Brisbane’s North West, convinced that keeping things personal is the key to what they have achieved.

It is not only sellers that can benefit from Reinhardt & Slater’s personal and innovative service. (ARA) - Losing weight is challenging. In fact, only 28 percent of people vowing to lose weight were successful, according to one study from the United Kingdom. Dedication and a few healthy tricks learned from the pros can be the key to successful weight loss.

Nutritionist, personal trainer and health educator, Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD, believes that traditional diets of low-calorie -- and often low-taste -- foods can leave dieters feeling hungry

and unsatisfied.

In her New York Times best-selling book “Flat Belly Diet,” Sass offers several easy guidelines to help you stick to your weight-loss goals to become healthier and happier.

Sass Up Water

According to Sass, drinking plenty of water is an essential part of an everyday diet. “Many

people find having eight glasses a day can be a challenge when less healthy options such as soda and sugary juices are easily available,” she says. Sass recommends her signature recipe called “Sassy Water” which infuses fresh ginger root, cucumbers, lemons and mint leaves into water. “We call it ‘Sassy’ because it’s a heck of a lot perkier than plain old water and the ingredients help calm and soothe your digestive system.”

Eating on the Go

Sass suggests eating several small meals and snacks throughout the day to regulate the body’s metabolism and stop the hunger pangs. “I really like Laughing Cow Mini Babybel cheeses, because they offer delicious, portable protein to help control food cravings and keep you feeling fuller longer,” she says. “Also, each serving is individually wrapped so weight-conscious individuals know how much food they are getting without worrying about portion control.”

Get Moving

“Walking not only burns calories, it can also boost your mood,” says Sass. “ M o d e r a t e - t o -

vigorous walking causes your brain to release hormones which are shown to improve your mood and raise your spirits, which can last for several hours.” Sass recommends finding ways to incorporate exercise into your daily routines, like a quick five-minute walk around your office after lunch.

Snack the Right Way

“Most people who work outside of the home eat lunch between noon and 1 p.m., but don’t make dinner until after 6 p.m., therefore, their hunger signals are in full-swing well before they eat their last meal for the day,” says Sass. “The fix is to plan your snack between lunch and dinner around 3 or 4 p.m.” While at the office, she suggests Laughing Cow Light cheese wedges as a great snack. “I like to pair it with sliced apple wedges and a few tablespoons of nuts for a tasty, filling, calorie-controlled way to snack.”

Don’t go it alone

Research shows that dieters, especially women, who share their resolutions with friends, family and coworkers are more successful at following their weight-loss goals. “People who maintain personal and community connections have better health than those who don’t,” says Sass.

For additional tips on keeping fitness goals and healthy meal ideas, pick up a copy of “Flat Belly Diet.” - Courtesy of ARAcontent

Vitamin D is the most common nutritional deficiency in Australia, but most people are quite clueless as to its importance.

Please remember that without question the best way to optimize your vitamin D level is with regular exposure of large portions of your skin to the sun. Of course, choose times of day when you won’t get burnt such as before 10 am and after 4 pm.

This true or false test was developed by Dr. John Cannell. He is one of the leaders in the vitamin D education movement and has a very comprehensive Web site at http://cholecalciferol-council.com/ dedicated to vitamin D.

1.            Vitamin  D  reverses  inflammatory changes associated with age-related memory impairment.

True. Researchers from Ireland were the first to demonstrate that vitamin D3 acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and turns old brains into young brains – at least as far as inflammatory cytokines are concerned. This research suggests vitamin D may prevent, or even treat, age-related cognitive decline! (Biochem Soc Trans. 2005 Aug;33(Pt 4):573-7.)

2.           Your blood sugar  is closely associated with your vitamin D level.

True. Researchers in Australia added to the growing evidence that sun avoidance contributes to the epidemic of type 2 diabetes. The Australians’ findings were straightforward and powerful. The higher your vitamin D level, the lower your blood glucose. (Clin Endocrinol (Oxf). 2005 Jun;62(6):738-41.)

3.      In July, a group from Minnesota scientists

found that 100 % of elderly patients admitted for  fragility  fractures  were  vitamin-D deficient  despite  the  fact  that  half  of  them were taking vitamin D supplements.

True. The authors found that women taking supplemental vitamin D had average levels of 16.4 ng/ml while women not taking supplements had levels of 11.9.ng/ml, both dangerously low. None of the 82 women got enough sun or took enough vitamin D to obtain a level of 40 ng/ml. These were fragility fractures, not fractures caused by unusual trauma. That is, their bones just sort of fell apart also called ‘osteoporosis’. (Curr Med Res Opin. 2005 Jul;21(7):1069-74.)

4. Women with the lowest vitamin D levels had five times higher risk for breast cancer.

True. Women with 25(OH)-vitamin D blood levels less than 20 ng/ml were more than five times more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer than were women with levels above 60 ng/ml. That are five, repeat five, times more likely! (Eur J Cancer. 2005 May;41(8):1164-9. Epub 2005 Apr 14.)

5.          Avoiding  the  sun  doubles  the  risk  of prostate cancer.

True. Again, the risk of avoiding the sun is clear, this time in another study with prostate cancer. However, the authors pointed out that sun exposure increases the risk of skin cancer and believed that proper vitamin D supplementation “may be the safest solution to achieve an adequate vitamin D status.” (Cancer Res. 2005 Jun 15;65(12):5470-9.)

I also believe supplementation is the only way to go for many people. Dark-skinned people need to spend 2-3 times longer in the sun to

get the same effect as light-skinned people and if you live in the cooler parts of Australia such as Victoria, you simply may not have the time so spend out in the sun. In addition, the sun does age the skin and that fact alone will keep many people out of the sun. That said, I go into the sun whenever I can. The reason is simple: it is the most conservative thing to do. Until we know everything the sun does – and it does more than just make vitamin D – the conservative approach is to mimic our ancestors whenever we can. Therefore, it makes sense to sunbathe sensibly and take supplements if you can’t get enough.

6. South Korean researchers associated vitamin  D  deficiency  with  Parkinson’s disease.

True. Actually, they showed that certain genetic malformations (VDR polymorphisms) are more likely in patients with Parkinson’s disease, implying an association with vitamin D and Parkinsonism. (J Korean Med Sci. 2005 Jun;20(3):495-8.)

7. Researchers in England discovered that patients with chronic pain have phenomenally low vitamin D levels.

True. The authors added to the evidence that severe vitamin D deficiency is associated with chronic pain. They found that 88 percent of their patients with chronic pain had levels less than 10 ng/ml. Swiss researchers recently treated chronic pain patients with vitamin D and reported the pain “disappeared” within one to three months in most of their patients. This is the second open study that showed adequate doses of vitamin D dramatically improved chronic pain. (Ann Rheum Dis. 2005 Aug;64(8):1217-9.,BMJ. 2004 Jul 17;329(7458):156-7., Spine. 2003 Jan

15;28(2):177-9.)

8.      Severe vitamin D deficiency is common in TB patients.

True. First, the authors reviewed the impressive animal evidence that vitamin D can help treat TB. Then they reported that most of their immigrant TB patients had undetectable vitamin D levels. Finally, the researchers reported they treated their patients with vitamin D, with good results. (J Infect. 2005 Jun;50(5):432-7.)

9. Vitamin D Supplementation can be Toxic.

True – but it is very unlikely. Some of us, especially dark-skined people who don’t spend time outdoors, will need to take 3,000 to 4,000 units every day to maintain healthy 25(OH)-vitamin D blood levels. (J Steroid Biochem Mol Biol. 2005 Jul 15.)

The Institute of Medicine recommended that we only take one-tenth that amount, as the best science that was available in 1997 when they last did their review.

Professor Reinhold Vieth clearly showed 10,000 units a day was unlikely to be toxic. Vitamin D toxicity probably starts around 20,000 units a day, and then only if taken for months or even years.

Am J Clin Nutr. 1999 May;69(5):842-56.

Of course, Vitamin D is just one of many very important vitamins and minerals our bodies need to keep well. Remember always the basic principles of good health – Good nutrition, Spine in Line, Exercise, Rest, Avoid toxic exposure and Maintain a positive attitude.

Yours In Health, Dr Richard Sawyer.

Health & Life

Studies have shown that 98 % of people who started off January 1 with resolutions to make changes in their health, financial situation, relationships and other aspects of their life have already failed in their quest.

If you are one of these people and are now saying to yourself that 2010 will be your year then it’s time to make a change in your mentality as there is “no better time than now”.

Most of the people that have failed in their new year’s resolutions have done so because they had conditioned themselves to fail. They have done the right thing and made a list of things that they want to change in 2009 but then they hoped that the same process that has failed for the past how many years will get them to where they want.

You must give yourself enough reasons to change, when things are a must people will move the earth to achieve them, whether that is better

relationships with family or colleagues, more money, a promotion, better health or more energy to give to the ones you love by making small adjustments in our mindsets and giving ourselves enough leverage to make these changes then and only then will we achieve what we are looking to achieve

I want to lose 5 kilos to fit into that swimsuit I saw in the shop, that alone will not give you enough reasons for change, because how many times have you tried that approach and come up short or furthermore got to your goals and brought the swimsuit you wanted only to fall back into the same pattern as before.

Why not try a different approach, start by simply moving, just get up and go, take the dog for a walk, get outside with the kids, just move, stop reading here and come back we will be here when you get back, just go and change your situation immediately (continued page 15)

You bought Bub home from the hospital 3 weeks ago, proud as punch. You’ve had family and friends come and dote

over your precious new baby. Now, 3 weeks later, you and hubby are exhausted and tired while baby is screaming and inconsolable (has been for the last 2 hours) and you just want Bub to go to sleep, so you can too.

Congratulations to all you new parents. I can remember this distressing situation only too well and I’m sure most other parents can too. Here are some natural ideas to help with an upset baby:

Colic – is excessive wind caught in the bowels causing stomach pain. What to do – walk or rock baby. Take baby for a drive. Put baby in a rocker on top of a running dryer (more so in cooler months). Gently massage baby’s abdomen in a clockwise circle to push the wind out. Put baby in a sling and carry him/her around the backyard for 20 minutes.

Reflux – when baby regularly spits up milk after feeding. What to do – Elevate the cot

and change table by 30 degrees to elevate baby’s head; remove any tight clothing around baby’s stomach. Sit baby more up-right when feeding to allow the milk to flow straight down to the intestines (let gravity do its job). Burp baby after each feed, even if Bub’s fallen asleep. Try feeding him/her in smaller more frequent feeds.

Nappy  Rash – a red, raw rash over baby’s bottom. What to do - Keep baby’s bottom as dry as possible; in summer, take baby’s nappy off and let him/her get some fresh air on the area. Wash and rinse baby’s bottom using a washer and warm water rather than soap or scented wipes. Apply a barrier cream (‘Sudo cream’ or ‘Bepanthan’ – should be a sample in your pregnancy gift bags). Use a cloth nappy instead to allow the area to breathe.

If you’d like more information, natural make-at-home remedies or have other issues please call me on 0438 821 283. I’d love to help.

Northside Netball gets a Facelift

The recent $215,000 upgrade of the Brendale South Pine Sports Complex’s netball facility has allowed the Albany Creek Excelsior (ACE) Netball Club to relocate from their old home grounds at Wolter Park, Albany Creek, just in time for this year’s sign up of players.

Divisional 9 Councillor Mike Charlton said 250 ACE club members and other local netball clubs would enjoy the improvements to the new facility.“

This netball court upgrade included installing changes rooms and storage facilities, upgrading the court lights to meet Australian Lighting Standards, resurfacing the courts, line marking and demountable toilets,” Cr Charlton said.“

The facelift commenced in June 2008 with the relocation of the demountable toilets from the ACE Soccer Club at the Brendale complex.”Cr Charlton said about 90 per cent of ACE club membership came from the Moreton Bay Regional Council area.

All women, 16 years and over, residing in the Moreton Bay Region can try their hand at one of 30 low-cost activities designed, run and supported by women.

Division 4 Councillor Julie Greer said it was an affordable program that encouraged participants to experience a variety of sport and recreation activities in a friendly, supportive and non-competitive environment.

“Women are welcome to come along, and participate in fun activities such as group cycling, stand up paddle boarding, S-moves, a 10-week tennis course, pilates, ocean jet skiing, trail riding, and kite surfing,” Cr Greer said.

She said activities were being held at various locations across the region and were suitable for beginners as well as those with more experience.

“Adventure Women targets women who would otherwise shy away from sport and it encourages them to become active and reap the physical and mental rewards,” Cr Greer said.

For further information visit council’s website www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au or contact Communify Queensland on 3510 2722.

This is just one of a number of programs and events organised by the Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Others not to be missed include the Redcliffe Festival of Sails in April, QUT Urban Country Music Festival at Caboolture and Pine Rivers Festival in May and the Redcliffe First Settlement Festival and Superboat Grand Prix in September

As America’s economic crisis permeates the Australian economy, second-hand games are increasingly considered a viable and sensible option.

“There are two main reasons for this. One, second-hand games that are no longer played are traded in to offset the cost of new release titles. And, two, second-hand games are simply a good economic choice in the current climate,” said Mark Langford, Gametraders’ Managing Director.

Gametraders is the only gaming store to sell all gaming formats ever manufactured, devoting more shelf space to a bigger range of second-hand games as well as second-hand consoles and accessories.

These include all old cartridge games and consoles such as Sega Master System, Sega Megadrive; all old Nintendo cartridges such as NES, Super Nintendo and N64; Atari and Commodore 64; old PC games in boxes; Sony Playstation One; and Dreamcast,

through to Playstation 2, Nintendo DS and newer versions.

“We’re also seeing second-hand games traded to offset the cost of another second-hand game,” said Langford. “If a new release game can’t be afforded, there are scores of second-hand games to choose from.”

Gametraders now has 46 stores, with another opening in W.A. at the end of this month, and an average growth rate of 70 percent over the last three years, taking them to number nine this year in the BRW fastest growing franchises. Your local gametraders is below.

Shop around1. – Check your junk mail for supermarket specials. Most people live within 5 or 10 minutes of at least 2 of these, so whoever has the most items that you use on sale should get your business that week. Saving $2 at the pump on your petrol is good, but saving $5 on your cleaning products etc at the competition’s supermarket is better.

Keep a notebook on or next to the 2. fridge – Every time you use something in the pantry or fridge, add it to the list so you can restock when you are at the supermarket

Plan  your meals3. – Take 10 minutes to sit down and plan your meals for the week. You don’t have to specify which meal is for which day, but a list of 7 meals attached to the fridge, makes the decision a lot easier when you get home, and less tempting to use pre-packaged or takeaway food.

Make a list4. – Once you have worked out your meals, the ingredients make the basis for your shopping list. Take a look in the pantry and the fridge as well as in the laundry and bathrooms for things that are running low. Add the things that you have run out of during the previous week and hey presto – there’s your list!

Break  your  list  into  supermarket 5. sections – Put all of your fruit and vegies, dairy items, deli items etc together on the list so you don’t forget items and have to backtrack in the supermarket.

Buy in bulk6. –When something you use is on sale, stock up. If you have a chest freezer, buy meat in bulk either late in the afternoon or first up in the morning, or go to one of the larger butchers and stock up. They usually have great specials when you buy in bulk.

Don’t  shop  when  you  are  hungry7. – We’ve all heard it before, but it’s true. If you go shopping when you are hungry, you are more likely to impulse buy foods because they are appealing to your hungry stomach.

Take a pen8. – Cross off each item as it goes into the trolley. The things that aren’t crossed off are the only things you need to look at. Plus, there’s less chance you will forget something.

Only  buy  what’s  on  your  list9. – Don’t waste your hard earned time or money on things that aren’t on your list.

Shop in quieter times – 10.  Shopping during the week first thing on Saturday or Sunday morning. There are less people to clog the aisles and the registers so you will be done in no time.

If all of that still seems too hard, you only need to do items 2,3 and 4 and then give Hectic Helpers a call and we will take care of the shopping for you. We’ll even deliver it you at home and put it away!

Hectic Helpers can assist all things from planning your next party or just taking away the headaches of your office admin. The to-do-list specialists can be contacted on 0409 827 185 or [email protected] Visit us at www.hectichelpers.com.au

How to save time and

money in the supermarket

ARA) – An investment in your child’s educa-tion doesn’t necessarily include a deposit on their first car. Studies show that a child’s academic foundation is built upon skills devel-oped as early as kindergarten, so it’s never too early to start supplementing their education. With so many products and programs focused on helping your child learn to read, math skills can easily be lost in the shuffle. And since math proficiency is so important for both school and later employment, parents shouldn’t ig-nore the role math plays in their child’s future. Here are a few tips to help them improve their math skills: * Find ways to play counting games during the day, such as counting the number of stairs, or

the number of red cars you pass while driving *Cook with your child and have your child measure the amounts for the ingredients. * Ask your child to find the right amount to pay for an item when out shopping *Sign your child up for music lessons *Play card games like Go Fish, Crazy Eights, and Rummy, to teach whilst having fun *Play games that help develop math skills like DreamBox Learning K-2 Math (www.dream-box.com). The innovative, Web-based product is specifically tailored to a child’s skills.

EAT ORGANIC AND EAT LESSBy Deborah Wray

Did you know that the nutrient content of many foods has fallen dramatically over the past few decades? Or that you’re probably piling more on your plate and increasing your kilojoule intake because of it?

One of the first things our customers at Wray Organic notice when they start eating our certified organic fruit and vegetables is that they eat less and have increased energy levels. Why is this so?

Growing crops year- round on the same plot of earth with no crop rotation using toxic fertilizers and pesticides, exhausts the soil and strips it of any nutrients. If the soils are not mineral rich than the food that grows in it or graze on it will also lack minerals. The term ‘hollow foods’ has been used to describe such produce, because it lacks any nutrients, so you are in effect eating nothing!

The portion sizes that once provided sufficient nutrients are no longer enough, so we’re all eating more. In a world of ever –increasing waistbands, that’s a problem.

If you eat nutrient dense organic foods you only need smaller amounts, as your body is satisfied with less. Also your energy levels are improved because the body is getting the fuel it requires to function properly.

Many people believe organic food is just about crops which have not been sprayed with pesticides but it is so much more than that. The soils on an organic farm are encouraged to be mineral rich and because of this the food is nutrient dense.

Eat organic and experience the difference.

Seasonal Tips: Autumn Health & ImmunityBy Ameeta Gangaram N.D.

Autumn is here and with that comes the increased susceptibility to colds and flu. Get on top of it this year with an action plan. Support your immune system and nourish it with good, wholesome food.

Your digestive system health is the root of your immune system’s strength; because 70% of the latter is located within the digestive tract. So remember that what you put into your body directly impacts your immune response. There are many contributing factors to a weakened immune system. Thus focus on minimizing these factors:• Physiological, psychological

and emotional stress• Lack of regular exercise

• Lack of sleep and relaxation• Poor diet• Nutritional deficiencies

• Eat a balanced diet, high in fibre and complex carbohy-drates, low in fat, with moder-ate amounts of protein

• De-stress and find new ways to relax the body, mind and soul

• Increase water to 6-8 glasses per day

• Supplement your diet with the correct nutrients where required

By Graham Doessel

My name is Graham Doessel and the only reason I’m alive and writing this article is because of early detection.

In early January this year I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. The only reason I was diagnosed is that I had a slight discomfort in the groin and I sought medical advice. By the time I had any warning (the slight discomfort) the cancer had already spread to my lymph nodes.

The secondary cancer below my left renal artery, is very aggressive and has grown to the size of a tennis ball in just two months. I am now being treated with intense chemotherapy and my prognosis is very good.

If I had done the normal bloke thing and ignored the pain, there is a very good chance that the secondary cancer would have grown out of control and I could be facing a death sentence.

As it is, I have caught it just in time, and the chemotherapy will be all that is needed to remove the tumour.

Testicular cancer is the second most common form of cancer amongst Australian men aged 18 to 39 years, with almost half of all new recorded cases diagnosed in men under 33 years of age.

In 1997 about 550 new

cases of testicular cancer were diagnosed.

Unfortunately there has been a steady increase (2% each year) in the number of men diagnosed with testicular cancer in Australia since 1982. The reason for this increase is as yet unknown.

The good news is testicular cancer has a 95% cure rate if detected early.

It is vitally important that all men do regular checkups to check for any lumps or irregularities. A self check will normally take less than 60 seconds and should be performed once per month.

For detailed information on performing a testicular cancer self check, simply look online or go to www.now.org.au/tcan for links to other great resources.

Guys, don’t wait! If you have any unusual pain or any unusual lump, go to the doctor. Get it checked  out  because  if  you  don’t,  who  are your kids going to say goodnight to?

Only one in six older citizens exercise for 10 minutes or more at least three times a week, according to The Wall Street Journal

Four out of five seniors (65 and older) admit they “never” exercise.

What about you? How many times did you exercise last week?

Study after study has proven the health value of exercise. One recent example: The University of Michigan Medical School reported that “adults in their 50s and early 60s who were regularly active were about 35% less likely to die in the next eight years than those who were sedentary.”

As the nights get a little cooler and winter fashion is emerging in to shops it’s time to reassess the beauty regime and overall look, below are my five main tips for getting the most out of your look in time for winter.

Moisturise1. ! You may need to get a slightly richer

moisturiser for winter as naturally as the climate becomes cooler it also becomes dryer which is exactly what happens to your skins. If you keep up that moisture you skin will hold a lovely natural glow all year round.

Look after your lips2. Chapped lips are not a

good look they can also be painful and irritating, by looking after your lips constantly with a hydrating protecting balm such as pawpaw ointment, chapping is less likely to occur.

Exfoliating 3. is always important but

more so in the cooler months as the skin generally gets so dry! By exfoliating often the moisturiser is going work a lot harder for you and the natural glow is easier to attain.

Generally skin tone4. becomes a little lighter

during Autumn and Winter so going down a shade in your foundation is sometimes necessary to avoid that dark face pale body look.

Deeper shades of eye and lip5. colours really come to the fore with

rich plums and deep berry tones being the colour palettes of choice. Remember if your eyes are dark lips should be plan and vice versa. Too much is sometimes just too much. Stick to these simple tips and Winter will be like a wonderland with gorgeous skin and flawless makeup.

From bestselling astrologer Dadhichi Toth comes the definitive guide to star sign com-patibilities

Dadhichi’s new book is now on sale at major bookstores including K-Mart, Big W, Borders and most newsagents.

IS HE YOUR SOUL MATE exhaustively shows you

How to find and keep your perfect match • Who you’re best suited to• Star signs to avoid• How to make your sex life sizzle! • What you need from a lover or friend• How to become more compatible•

You have to sort out some financial issues this month, particularly in the first week. It’s best not to get too emotional or you might miss some important aspects of what needs to be done to secure your financial security. On the romantic side of things however, it’s looking good for you and between the 15th and 17th you can expect Cupid to put in a good word for you.

You’re feeling luxurious, passionate and in a very generous mood. Don’t ditch your friends however for a newcomer on the scene as this may be shortlived. You are flighty, reac-tive and perhaps overly passionate with the wrong person. Expect some wonderful liai-sons and romantic interludes after the 10th.

You like traveling so it’s not a bad idea early in the year to get away and make yourself scarce. It’s best to get things in order in the first couple of weeks of the month and make your break after the 20th. You may actually have an interesting rendezvous in a distant place.

Your career is spotlighted this month with Venus moving in the upper part of your horo-scope. After the 21st things really get going and you’re likely to find yourself in a better position, an interview for a better job or ne-gotiating a pay rise. March should be a good month for you.

Try as hard as you will to bite your tongue, you may find yourself embroiled in bitter dis-putes with someone you love dearly. There’s no point in creating a rod for your own back by saying more than you need to. You could be in the right but hold back and let the dust settle before saying your piece. The period of the 4th to the 10th should be pretty dicey as far as your relationships are concerned.

You are in a serious mood, particularly be-tween the 11th and 15th. Try to keep things light and breezy and don’t react to people’s opinions about the how and why you should be doing things a different way. If you have confidence that what you’ve done in the past works for you stick to your guns. Your sexual energies are much stronger after the 22nd.

This is an excellent month for friendship, ro-mance and even reconnecting with people from your past. You have several opportuni-ties which is evidenced by Jupiter, Mercury and Mars in your romance zone. It appears this is going to be a busy month so you need to carefully organize your diary especially af-ter the 23rd.

You are coming to the end of a rather intense work and/or relationship cycle. This is going to give you an opportunity to kick up your heels and really sit back and relax for a while. Your habit however may be to take on more work and this could be a mistake. Follow the lead of your lover or spouse, particularly after the 14th when a bit of advice given to you will help set a new pathway for you and a

positive one at that.

You want things to move ahead quickly this month but you may be obstructed by people at work, close friends or even relatives who have their own agenda. You’ll need to be ruthless if you’re going to achieve your objec-tives without interference. Between the 19th and 23rd you’ll be rather emotional about some decision. Get a second opinion before committing yourself to a path of action.

The period of the 6th till the 9th is a rather intense financial period. You’re probably doing too much and saying yes to too many people. When are you going to do something for yourself? It’s a matter of committing to yourself, and understanding that you need to be gentle and kind to No. 1 if the Universe is going to co-operate with you. Some good fortune could arrive around the 14th or 15th. Remain aware of opportunities that present themselves at this time.

Put your foot on the brakes between the 2nd and the 5th. You might think an idea has been perfectly thought through only to dis-cover later on that there are several factors that you had completely overlooked. Listen to what’s being said rather than superimpos-ing your own imagination on a situation, es-pecially if this has to do with some emotional or romantic scenario. Finances fluctuate until the 11th, after which some better opportuni-ties for stability come your way.

Don’t let the past encroach on the present. Someone could bring up some old events which could open wounds that you thought had healed. If you can avoid someone that you were once involved with, it’s best to stay out of their line of fire. On a positive note however you are compassionate and will want to do something beneficial for a friend. Make yourself available to assist a loved one after the 8th.

For years, the 17 kilometre stretch of white sandy beach has been Queensland’s best kept secret when every other pocket of sand along the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and the north Queensland beaches have been built-up, re-built and developed to the point that vacant land is a rarity.

Moore Park Beach Community Association President Alan Davis said the wonderful fam-ily environment that almost 2000 locals call home will not remain a secret for much lon-ger.“We have been fortunate to live in one of the best beachside towns in Australia. We are also lucky that for years we have been able to get away with it without anyone else finding out!” Mr Davis said.

A far cry from the racing city with its many busy attractions, Moore Park Beach in con-trast provides families and couples with its own attractions giving people the chance to escape the ‘rat race’ which is causing so much executive stress.

Local families are enjoying the new services to the area in the form of a new primary school, restaurant, shops, and a tavern with children’s play area. The Community Association’s hall is

another source of pride and provides a place for many public functions and events includ-ing the annual Arts Festival.

Moore Park Beach also features excellent fishing, crabbing and boating opportunities along with the stunning stretch of white sandy beach, patrolled by award-winning surf life-savers and a thriving little nipper squad.

Moore Park Beach is alive with local wildlife and birdlife, and kangaroos are often seen grazing on the beach reserve and on other grassy parklands in the area. Turtle watching is a favourite pastime for locals, who can experi-ence first-hand the laying and hatching season right under their noses on their own parcel of beach.

Mr Davis said the Community Association, Li-ons Club and Fishing Club are proud to have extremely active community members at Moore Park Beach, with everyone pitching in to make the town increasingly attractive to families and holiday-makers.

“The clean air, sounds of the ocean, low traf-fic and all-weather roads and of course the people, are what make Moore Park Beach the perfect place to settle down,” Mr Davis said.

“It will not be long before the word is spread about our extraordinary beach paradise.”

The town is now growing because of what Mr Davis believes is a “more cos-mopolitan” approach to lifestyle and business at Moore Park Beach, with people constantly breathing new ideas into the area.

The Good Buy Baby (GBB) Market is the newest market of its type to hit North Brisbane in a long time.

The brainchild of Michelle Kramer and Leah Salter, both mothers themselves, the ladies saw an opportunity to meet two growing needs in their community, those being an opportunity for people to sell there no longer needed baby products and for new mums and dads to pick up great bargains on all their children’s accessories.

It also provided an opportunity to help mums and dads meet with a number of people involved in children’s services in the local area giving them better access to information

Catering to all your children’s needs, the GBB Market provides a convenient alternative for parents looking to buy pre loved, good quality, reasonably priced goods for children specifically in the 0 to 10 years age group.

The Good Buy Baby Market will comprise up to 60 stall holders under the one roof , meaning you no longer have to search the classifieds, wait for a sale or spend a fortune on children’s goods again. Here is your chance to pick up some fantastic baby items at a fraction of the cost of buying them new.

Michelle states that “In today’s economic climate many families are struggling to makes ends meet. The GBB market was created in an aim to meet these needs. Both Leah and I have experience in business and hands on experience in running a home and family”.

She continues that “because of our previous experience and common goals we have

formed a great working relationship and now a successful business that can help local families and businesses around our local community”

Prior to GBB, Michelle held senior positions in some of Australia’s largest companies, continuing to run her own successful accounting practice today.

Leah is a Registered Nurse, specialising in Cardio-thoracic surgical nursing, with her training in nursing, and many years working with people, she has the openness to be able to communicate well with the community and to understand the needs of today’s parents and carers. As a parent of 3 young children, aged 8, 4 and 1, Leah has a very good appreciation of the wants and desires of little girls.

While Michelle and her husband have children aged 8, 5 and 2, giving her an excellent understanding of the different needs and requirements not only for different ages but the needs of both girls and boys.

If your in need some extra cash or need to make some space in the kids room or garage now is the time to gather it together, get some friends together and hire a stall.

For those looking to find the best of both worlds the GBB also has a section dedicated to new products specifically catering to the 0 to 10 years age group. These stalls will represent the best new products Brisbane has to offer

Michelle states that “Limited sponsorship and advertising opportunities are available at each market, so it’s important for people to contact us to reserve their space”

A GBB show bag is available to the first 250

people through the door with additional giveaways, samples and special offers, so be early!

The Market is being held on the 21st of March

from 9-12am at South Pine Community Church, Cnr South Pine Rd and Eaton’s Crossing Rd, Eaton’s Hill for more information go to Good Buy Baby Market or call Leah on 0417 707 968

Balanced - Your Health, Your Wealth, Your Lifestyle March 2009 -14-

By Jonny Bowden, PhD, CNS

For years, business and motivational gurus have known that there are basic habits that seem to predict professional success and excellence. Books like The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, by motivational speaker and business guru Stephen Covey, which has sold over 15 million copies alone, shows that people are hungry for the secrets of success.

We don’t yet have the perfect formula for long life, happiness, and physical health, but a little careful distillation of the massive amount of research on health and longevity reveals that cultivating nine basic habits will significantly increase the odds of your living long, well, and happily -- in a robust, healthy, weight-appropriate body.

Eat  your  vegetables1. . No kidding --and I’m talking at least 9 servings a day. Unless you’re following the most stringent first stage of the Atkins Diet, you should be able to consume 60-120 grams of carbs a day (depending on your weight and exercise level), and you’d have to eat a stockyard full of spinach to get to that amount. Every major study of long-lived, healthy people shows that they eat a ton of plant foods. Nothing delivers antioxidants, fiber, flavonoids, indoles, and the entire pharmacopeia of disease fighting phytochemicals like stuff that grows in rich soil.

Eat  fish  and/or  take  fish  oil2. . The omega-3’s found in cold-water fish like salmon deserve the title of “wellness molecule of the century.” They lower the risk of heart disease, they lower blood pressure, they improve mood, and they’re good for the brain. And if you’re pregnant, they may make your kid smarter!

Connect3. . And I’m not talking about the internet. In virtually every study of people who are healthy and happy into their 9th and 10th decades, social connections are one of the “prime movers” in their life. Whether church, family, volunteer work, or community, finding something you care about that’s bigger than you, that you can connect with and that involves other people (or animals) -- will extend your life, increase your energy, and make you happier -- always.

Sleep well4. . If you’re low in energy, gaining weight, grumpy, and looking haggard, guess what? Chances are you’re not sleeping long enough or well enough. By sleeping “well,” I mean uninterrupted sleep, in the dark -- without the television on, in a relaxing environment. Nothing nourishes, replenishes, and restarts the system like 7-9 hours sleep. Hint: start by going to bed an hour early. And if you’ve got a computer in the bedroom, banish it!

Exercise  every  day5. . Forget this 20 minutes three times a week stuff. Long-lived people are doing things like farm chores at 4:30 in the morning! Our Paleolithic ancestors traveled an average of 20 miles per day. Our bodies were designed to move on a regular basis. New studies show that merely 30 minutes a day of walking not only reduces the risk of most serious diseases, but can even grow new brain cells!2

Practice  gratitude6. . By making a list of things you’re grateful for, you focus the brain on positive energy. Gratitude is incompatible with anger and stress. Practice using your under-utilized “right brain” and spread some love. Focusing on what you’re grateful for -- even for five minutes a day -- has the added benefit of being one of the best stress-reduction techniques on the planet.

Drink red wine or eat grapes7. . The resveratrol in dark grapes is being studied for its effect on extending life, which it seems to do for almost every species studied. (So does eating about one third less food, by the way.) If you’ve got a problem with alcohol, you can get resveratrol from grapes, peanuts, or supplements. (And if you’re a woman, and you choose the alcohol option, make sure you’re getting folic acid every day.)

Get the sugar out8. . The number one enemy of vitality, health, and longevity is not fat, it’s sugar. Sugar’s effect on hormones, mood, immunity, weight, and possibly even cancer cells is enormous -- and it’s all negative. To the extent that you can remove it from your diet, you will be adding years to your life and life to your years.

This list may not be perfect and it may not be complete, but it’s a start. As my dear grandmother used to say, “Couldn’t hurt.” Not one of these “habits” will hurt you, all will benefit you, and some may make the difference between life and death.

And it’s never too late to start cultivating them.

Enjoy the journey!

Protecting Your Future Lifestyle

by Amanda McCallMost of us know somebody who has been diagnosed with cancer, suffered a heart attack or experienced a stroke. Whether it was a relative, friend, or colleague, these events remind us that no matter how healthy a lifestyle we lead, no-one is guaranteed good health and a long life.

Now, if you were unlucky enough to suffer a serious illness or injury, would you like to be provided with a lump sum of money? Money that could be used to pay your medical expenses, mortgages, personal debts or even to make a permanent lifestyle change such as reduced working hours.

I’m certain your answer is yes. After all, you would want to concentrate on getting better - not on how you’re going to pay the bills.

Trauma insurance can provide you with a lump sum payment on the diagnosis or occurrence of specified illnesses including cancer, heart attack and stroke.

To discuss a personal and affordable protection plan, please call Amanda McCall at Avery Financial Planning on 3356 6929 or email me at [email protected].

Whilst insurance can’t prevent serious illnesses and injuries from occurring, it can protect you from the financial consequences such misfortune can bring.

Too many cards in your wallet? Take out the ones you don’t use every-day and put them in a business card holder in your handbag. Your wallet will now close and if you need one of your other cards you will have them handy.

Hectic Helpers is helping people just like you very day to save time in their busy

lives. Call Kay on 0409 827 185 or Kay@

(from pg 4.)

Take the time to find out what the things limiting you from achieving those resolutions and then take NIKE’s advice and JUST DO IT as it may unlock the key to the fulfilled life that you want, then go back and write a plan of action on what makes your goals meaningful to you.

Make it realistic if is to lose weight state you will exercise for 30 minutes every second day and only eat foods throughout the day that will give you the energy to exercise and get through your day.

To use an example If you are a procrastinator whether that be on phone calls, tough decisions, starting your goals. etc.

You are not alone on this how many times have you had a task to do and put it off until eventually it was put off so long that you

finally had to do it, but in the process you have gone through countless thoughts about it, justifying to other why it hasn’t been done and eventually made it a much bigger task than it would have been if you would have just completed the task in the first place

So make something you will no longer stand for “procrastination”, So whenever a item is presented across your desk at work or in front of you in life just get started on it straight away, enabling you to get over that hump you once had and therfore eliminating the stress of putting the task off. Make your initial goal to procrastinate on an item for no longer than 24 hours and then for no longer than 30 minutes.

Remember as Napolean Hill says “Whatever we conceive and believe, we can achieve”, don’t wait until 2010, your time for the life you always wanted is right now. By Adam Peel
