The pump seat nipple is typically landed somewhere near the heel of the completion to maximize the load of fluid carried with each plunger stroke. True production optimization is only achieved when the wellbore permeability is perfectly matched to the pump stroke rate. Operators generate the most revenue when they time their pump stroke to pump as fast as they can without pumping off. The typical approach is to calculate an estimated fluid level in relation to the plunger from surface electronics such as load cells and flow meters and make speed adjustments accordingly. Horizontal Bakken completions are much more sophisticated and dynamic than other rod pump applications. The downside of exclusively relying on surface measurements to adjust the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) is that wellbore fluid levels fluctuate and can be difficult to detect from the surface, especially in the presence of foams and elevated Gas Oil Ratio (GOR). Not knowing the real time wellbore fluid level either means lost production or increased likelihood of lost production time due to unplanned wellbore interventions. The Challenge• Achieving Production Optimization

• Avoiding Pumping Off

• Evaluating Pump Performance

Many Bakken formation wells are completed with large rod pumps.

The SolutionPerm Services USA Inc. installs and services reliable and innovative downhole pressure gages manufactured by GEO PSI that require little or no surface electronics and can be easily incorporated into any existing pump-off controller or VFD package.

The Benefits• Know the exact fluid level based factual real time downhole pressure

data. Eliminate the need for shooting acoustic fluid level surveys.

• Automatically adjust pump stroke speed based on a wellbore fluid level target with VFD integration.

• Avoid costly mistakes due to pumping off by setting alarms and automatic shut off based on low fluid levels.

• Collect static build up information for transient pressure analysis while the rod pump is shut in, eliminating the requirement for pressure memory tools.
