    Founded in 1926, at the height of India's movement forindependence from the British, the group has an illustrioushistory. Jamnalal Bajaj, founder of the group, was a close

    confidant and disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. In fact, Gandhijihad adopted him as his son. This close relationship and hisdeep involvement in the independence movement did notleave Jamnalal Bajaj with much time to spend on his newlylaunched business venture.

    Company profileJamnalal Bajaj was succeeded by his eldest son, 27-year-oldKamalnayan, in 1942. Kamalnayan, however, waspreoccupied with India's struggle for independence. Afterthis was achieved, in 1947, Kamalnayan consolidated anddiversified the group, branching into cement, ayurvedicmedicines, electrical equipment, and appliances, as well asscooters.

    The precursor to Bajaj Auto had been formed on November29, 1945 as M/s Bachraj Trading Ltd. It began sellingimported two- and three-wheeled vehicles in 1948 andobtained a manufacturing license from the government 11years later. The next year, 1960, Bajaj Auto became a publiclimited company.

    Rahul Bajaj reportedly adored the famous Vespa scootersmade by Piaggio of Italy. In 1960, at the age of 22, he

    New plantThe 1986-87 fiscal year saw the introduction of the Bajaj M-

    80 and the Kawasaki Bajaj KB100 motorcycles. The companywas making 500,000 vehicles a year at this point.

    The Kawasaki Bajaj Boxer and the RE diesel Autorickshawwere introduced in 1997. The next year saw the debut of theKawasaki Bajaj Caliber, the Spirit, and the Legend, India'sfirst four-stroke scooter. The Caliber sold 100,000 units in itsfirst 12 months. Bajaj was planning to build its third plant ata cost of Rs 4 billion ($111.6 million) to produce two newmodels, one to be developed in collaboration with Cagiva ofItaly.

    Introduction of Bajaj

    pulsarBajaj Pulsar is a motorcycle brand owned by Bajaj Auto in

    India. The two wheeler was developed by the productengineering division of Bajaj Auto in association withmotorcycle designer Glynn Kerr Tokyo R&D.[1] Currently

    there are four variants available -with engine capacities of135 cc, 150 cc, 180 cc and 220 cc. Previously it was alsooffered with a 200 cc DTS-i oil cooled engine, which nowhas been discontinued. More than a million units of Pulsarwere sold by November 2005. With monthly sales of more

    EvolutionThe original Pulsar came with a 150 cc air-cooled,

    single-cylinder, petrol, spark-ignited four-stroke enginewhich made 13 HP of maximum power.

    They featured a single spark plug to ignite the air-fuelmixture fed from a carburetor, simple springshock absorbers, round headlamp dome and 1,265 mmwheelbase. Disc brakes as standard equipment was anovelty in Indian motorcycles of the early 2000s. Otherstandard features were parking lights and an aircraft-typefuel tank lid. The design of the motorcycle was inspired byan wide open muscular human arm.

    The second generation Pulsars featured

    Bajaj Auto's newly developed DTSitechnology, which increased the powerrating of both versions by 1 hp (0.75 kW)each and also increased fuel economy.[9]

    This model also introduce a new headlampassembly, 1,320 mm wheelbase,[10] andstandard twin-tone horn and trip meter.

    In 2005

    In 2005, Bajaj launched another upgrade ofthe Pulsar. The bike was offered with 17-inch(430 mm) alloy wheels as standard option,

    and the stance was also lowered by about12 mm. It was the first time any bike makerin India had offered 17-inch (430 mm) profilewheels at the rear. The fuel tank now had a

    capacity of only 18 litres.[11] The poweroutput was now further increased to 13.5 hp(10.1 kW) @ 8500 rpm for the 150 while itincreased to 16.5 hp (12.3 kW) @ 8500 rpm

    In 2010

    A naked version of Pulsar 220 is alsolaunched, named as Pulsar 220S (StreetFighter) which retains everything from Pulsar

    220 except the front fairing. Front fairing issimilar to Pulsar 180/150. Old Pulsar 220 isnow named as Pulsar 220F.
