dear traveler,The Sea of Cortez is a rarified pocket of extraordinary wildness and wonder. Jacques
Cousteau called it “the world’s aquarium” for its richness. John Steinbeck fell under
its enchantment, and extolled it in The Log from The Sea of Cortez.
I understand their rapture; I share it. Since 1977 I have spent 50 or so weeks in Baja
California & the Sea of Cortez. It is where the windswept dunes and the blooms of
the desert meet the sea. And it’s among the best places in the world to see marine
mammals—a literal “living sea.” I love to be there with my kids. And as a lifelong
photographer, I think it’s one of the best places on the planet to shoot photos.
UNESCO named the islands of the Sea of Cortez a World Heritage Site for their
outstanding value in their natural, unaltered state. The islands where we sail are
uninhabited, remote and pristine; light years away from the visitor activity that may
come to mind when you think of Los Cabos.
If you want to share a remarkable holiday with your family, I encourage you to head
to the Sea of Cortez. And if making images is your idea of a great time, I invite you to
seek the light and extraordinary subjects of Baja California. Whichever expedition you
choose this season, I promise you’ll have the time of your life.
All the best,
Sven-Olof Lindblad
