    OPPORTUNITIES

The Bainbridge Island Library will be hosting “Harmonica Pocket” here at St. Cecilia Parish in Conger Hall on

Tuesday, July 30 at 10:30 AM. This is a one man show featuring wah-wah guitar solos, electric ukulele, and bass all performed live using a looping pedal. This is a free event and appropriate for all ages.

All are invited to attend a seminar to learn more about how the Holy Spirit can help us live our lives more fully and with more direction, joy, and clarity. We received the Holy Spirit at Baptism and Confirmation, but it is then up to us to invite the Holy Spirit

to be active in our lives. These talks will help us be more aware of all the Holy Spirit wants to do for us, in us and through us. Join us on Monday, July 22 from 6:30–9:30 PM. Questions or to RSVP: call or email Janice Carleton 503-347-4079

    the power of prayer!

Pray the Liturgy of the Hours: Vespers has been celebrated here each Sunday at 7 PM in the church since Advent 2014. The Liturgy of the Hours consists of psalms supplemented by hymns and readings. The various “hours” are designed to be prayed throughout the day as a means of sanctifying the whole day with prayer. As with the Mass, the Divine Office is an official public prayer of the Church. Vespers takes about 20 minutes. Scripts will be provided, and anyone can participate – Catholic or not. Please join us. Contact Bob Earhart, OFS at 240-447-3173 for more information.

    PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

    Embrace, Educate, Empower

In early July, Mrs. Lee-Despard, Ms. Kerry Carson,

and I participated in the ADELANTE Conference at the

University of Notre Dame. I applied for and received a

Building Diversity grant from the Fulcrum Foundation which

paid for all costs related to the 3-day conference.

The theme of the conference was: EMBRACE,

EDUCATE, EMPOWER. We participated in several

breakout sessions and heard presentations by incredible

priests, a bishop, a sister, and several lay people including

Notre Dame professors. The conference served to affirm the

work we are doing and we learned new practices to enhance

    our school.

At the start of the conference and at the closing

presentation, we recited the prayer below, written by the

Catholic School Advantage Team at the University of Notre

    Dame.

Loving God, thank you for the

opportunity to encounter you in others.

Animate my work that I may embrace

my students and their families who

so beautifully reflect the diverse and

    Universal Church.

Inspire my efforts to educate the whole

    child, celebrating the cultures and

    languages that enrich our school.

Bless my efforts to empower children and

families to recognize and employ their

own unique gifts and talents to renew our

    community in your image.

    Amen

Adelante means moving forward. We are already

planning ways to incorporate our new learning into our culture

and curriculum to ensure that we embrace, educate, and

empower every single student to the fullest capacity.

    Adelante!

    With joy,

    Susan Kilbane
