    ABOUT BADIR

    BADIR is a three-year program,launched by the InternationalYouth Foundation with supportfrom Starbucks, designed to equipyoung Jordanian leaders with theknowledge and skills needed tostrengthen and scale up their socialchange projects.

    As part of the BADIR fellowshipexperience, fellows receive socialinnovation skills and managementtraining designed to help themstrengthen and expand their projects.Participating youth also benet frombeing part of a vibrant global networkof over 730 young social innovators inmore than 70 countries.

    Participants will be eligible to receiveUS $5,000 through BADIRs SocialInnovation Fund upon completionof the rst training workshop and thefunding application process.

    As a result of the nancial andtechnical support made availablethrough the Fund, each project is

    expected to directly impact at least 100additional community members.

    Together, these fellows will form anational network of talented andcommitted youth who continue tolearn from and collaborate with oneanother and their peers who aremembers of the YouthActionNetglobal network.

These visionaryyoung men and women have pioneered solutionsto a host of local and global challenges promoting sustainable agriculture, encouragingwater recycling, creating positive alternatives forout-of-school youth, providing health care forthe elderly, and sparking greater scientic andtechnological innovation.

    Ahmad seeks to transform Irbid intoan advanced city by improving itsinfrastructure and public services, especiallythose dealing with waste management.Through Irbid City Development, Ahmadbrings individuals and associationstogether to beautify their city and takepride in the process. With a special focuson Irbids university-attending youth,

    Ahmad has already carried out a majorproject, The Irbid Cleaning Marathon.The program lasted for several weeks andincluded major street-cleaning projects andother events.     Ahmad leads Conversation 101, aninitiative that seeks to prevent violenceamong youth by encouraging themto use their free time constructively.

    Ahmad has hosted numerous trainingsessions, events, and eld trips thatteach young adults communication andconversation skills that can be appliedto their everyday lives. Ahmad has seen

    an impressive continuation rate amongproject beneciaries, with 36 of 45 malestudents from the Thakor Al Iskan Schoolcontinuing their participation in theinitiative. With additional support, Ahmadseeks to establish his own radio show,also named Conversation 101, to reachmore young adults.

    Ahmad leads TechnoEcho, an initiativethat works to transform Jordanians fromtechnology consumers into technologyproducers. His initiative provides onlineresourcessuch as lessons and lectures intechnological entrepreneurshipto equipJordanians with the tools and skills to createtechnological innovations. TechnoEchoalso aims to propel Jordan into the app

    industry by producing free and paid mobilephone apps with local relevance. Ahmadhas already carried out two well-attendedtechnology events and provided iOSprogramming lectures.     Ahmad believes that people can use idletravel time more constructively. Hisinitiative, On the Road, creates smalllibraries on city buses to help commuterstake advantage of their time in transit. Todate, Ahmad has carried out numeroussuccessful book donation drives andinformational campaigns. The campaignsencouraged tourists and other travelers

    to Aqaba to enjoy reading books on thebuses. Ahmads next step is to launch acampaign to target larger buses that travelfrom Karak to Amman and to partner withthe Al Mutakamelah Company, which hasbuses that go from the Hashemite Universityarea to the Jordanian University for Scienceand Technology.

She also helps studentsobtain part-time work, which gives themthe chance to gain on-the-job experienceand earn an income. She has alreadytrained 20 students in marketing skillsand linked them with special associations

    where they earned a decent salary. Herplan for the future is to train 50 morestudents and nd job opportunities forstudents during the summer.

    Baraa will establish a 60-minute radioshow, Its for You, that will air on theSawt Al Janub (Voice of the South) radiostation. Her show will host prominentand successful women from the Maanarea and encourage creativity amongMaans women.     whereby their efforts empower and beneteach other and their communities. Herradio show will also seek to create anenvironment of fun and friendship forwomen by hosting a small segment wherewomen are asked entertaining questions.

    Hanan created Giving Back to preservethe environment and economicallyempower low-income women. Throughher initiative, she advocates for thereduction of pollution, raises awarenessabout recycling, and helps housewivesand unemployed women earn an incomeby upcycling items into decorativehousehold products. Hanan carried out

    a successful environmental awarenesscampaign in Al Marea Village and heldan exhibition that featured upcycledproducts made by her beneciaries. Shenext hopes to partner with associationsand companies to help manufacture andmarket the projects products.

    interactive manner. In addition, he seeksto achieve social development throughscience-based projects that utilize scienticstudies and surveys.     Dima leads We Have the Ability, aninitiative that improves the lives ofthe elderly by providing free medicalequipment and services. Medical studentsand recent medical school graduatesvolunteer to provide elderly personswith free check-ups, physiotherapy andspeech therapy sessions, nutrition advice,surgeries, and other services. The initiative

    also distributes eyeglasses and dentures.In the coming year, Dima seeks to reachat least 500 elderly persons.

    Through Be the Change, Sarah providesguidance and training to youth in theareas of career planning, personaldevelopment, and self-motivation in orderto help them become leaders and changemakers in their communities. To date,Sarah has launched numerous successfulprojects, including Say It Out Loud, whichgives young adults an avenue to speak

    their minds, face their fears, and achievetheir dreams through action; and 28 in28, which gives youth groups 28 Dinarsand 28 days to invest in projects that makea difference in their communities.     Through her initiative, Siraj trainsyoung Jordanians from less fortunatecommunitieswith a special focus onthose who have dropped out of schooltocreate and carry out community projects.

    Among its accomplishments, her programhas hosted workshops for youth who workon university initiatives; held a creativitycamp for children that featured a horserace in Wadi Rum; conducted a workshopfor children from the Kharebeh Al Sooqrefugee camp who dropped out of school;and helped a local group organizebreakfasts for orphans.

    Sahar seeks to provide employmentopportunities to housewives, widows,disabled, and divorced women throughOur Countrys Mushrooms, an initiative thatmakes mushroom soup. Her organizationcollects mushrooms that are then dried andmade into a powder that makes hearty andall-natural mushroom soup. The initiativeprovides the opportunity for housewives

    and partially disabled persons to earn anincome. Sahar would like to increase thenumber of beneciaries in Salt and thenexpand to all of Jordans governorates,especially those that receive little supportfrom the government. She also wants tobegin using other foods to create healthy,all-natural products.

    Saddams A Chance to Train and Employteaches Maans youth that gainfulemployment is within their reach if theyput forward effort and acquire soft socialskills. In spite of limited work opportunities,Saddam has created jobs in cooperationwith the Mafraq Development Area andthe Mafraq Development Company, towhich his participants can apply. Through

    his program, a group of 15 young girlshas already obtained jobs as psychologicalsupporters for Syrian refugees residing inJordan. Saddams project also offers youthworkshops on CV writing and interviewskills to help them market themselves. Inthe future, he aims to reach more youth inMafraq, expand to new areas of operation,and network with new employers.

    Omar leads the Gray Water Project, aninitiative that seeks to preserve preciousnatural resources. To date, the project hasengaged residents in southern Ghor torecycle their gray water and use irrigationsystems that utilize rainwater. Omar hasdesigned a home garden that uses graywater for multiple agricultural practices andhas created projects for schools that collect

    rainwater. This year, he will conduct a eldsurvey to determine the top 10 schools tobenet from gray water production, and willthen create gardens at these schools. Omarseeks to expand his initiatives projects tomosques and other public places.

    Ghofran established Patriots of Aqabato create a sense of social responsibilitytoward Aqabas less fortunate residents.Her initiative implements diverse volunteeractivities that address the areas health,education, and social needs. Patriotsof Aqaba has already organized ninemedical days during which residentsreceived free checkups and medical care,

    Fawwaz seeks to create a positive schoolatmosphere that inspires, motivates, andexcites students about education. ThroughStep by Step, he offers extracurricular andafter-school activities (e.g., photography,cinematography, and weekly sportstournaments) that strengthen the bondbetween students and their schools. In thefuture, Fawwaz would like to give students

    schoolbooks and create a structuredcurriculum that encourages them toadvance their studies throughout theschool year.

    Kamal founded Save Water to raiseawareness about Jordans severe waterscarcity and the common steps that canbe taken to prevent water loss and waste.In particular, Kamal focuses on preventingwater loss by xing leaky faucets andpipes in homes and schools, as well asencouraging the use of water-efcientfaucets. Through the Salleh Hanatak

    (Fix Your Tap) campaign, volunteerstraveled throughout Karak to x leaksand spread awareness about economicalwater use.     Through SmokeFreeJO, Lubna is workingtoward the full enforcement of JordansHealth Law No. 47, which prohibitspublic indoor smoking and the sale oftobacco to children under 18 years of age.SmokeFreeJO has delivered successfulpublic awareness campaigns and works inpartnership with the King Hussein CancerFoundation. In the future, Lubna hopes

    to enlist at least 500 paying members tosupport SmokeFreeJOs mission and touse the resulting resources to create ananti-tobacco curriculum and activities forstudents of all ages.

    Mohammad believes that his initiative, TheLaw and AIDS, can change the prevailingstigma toward HIV/AIDS and ensurethat Jordanian law respects and protectsindividuals with the disease. His project hasalready hosted awareness-raising events,created an informational video featuring aspeaker and his experience with AIDS, andtrained 25 lawyers in understanding the

    legal violations committed against thosewith AIDS. A Garden has already hostedart exhibitions and music festivals where

    young Jordanians had the opportunityto put their talents on display. Throughthe initiative, prominent artists also hosttalks and offer guidance and inspirationto young participants.     Manar launched My Farm to spreadawareness among farmers aboutsustainable agriculture and the safeapplication of pesticides.     Nedas initiative seeks to cultivate a cultureof entrepreneurship and innovation thathelps Jordanian youth overcome thechallenges of unemployment. Throughinspirational workshops, professionaltraining, and networking opportunities,Trip to Innovation (TTI) empowers youngJordanians with a variety of soft skillsaimed at enhancing their future prospects.

    TTI has already served more than 1,000youth, conducted 7 workshops throughoutJordan, and facilitated 8 training programsthat linked participants to local businesses,investors, and media outlets.
