WHY?

Deficiencies in the transport of Dangerous Goods (DG) in the UK:

• DG professionals have little/no supporting organisations

• Few outside channels exist to maintain/enhance skills

• No-one advocates for them

• Expertise is increasingly being lost in the transport of DG

• Some EU members states have organisations to support DGSAs

• Other modes of transport do not even have DGSAs

……..and because we don’t want any of this:

- 2008, DfT expresses caution about loss of expertise

- Jan 2009, DfT calls a meeting

- 1ST June 2010 (Meriden) a professional organisation is proposed by HSE, DfT, CIA, CBA, NCEC, CHCS, industry, transport…

- 26th July 2010, at NCEC, BADGP is born
