BadgePass Release Notes

Version 4.5

New DataSync Application Summary

The DataSync application has been completely rewritten to provide the simplest experience

when configuring profiles, and the fastest performance when syncing. Many new features have

been added to meet the real world needs that our customers have run into.

Details

Sync Profiles can now pull from 5 different source of data, ODBC, Sql Server, another BadgePass

database, File system, Tcp. All features of the previous DataSync application exist in the new

DataSync with many more features added. Some of these include the ability to query data from

BadgePass for mapping, inserting data directly into any table in BadgePass without going

throught the connector tables and triggers.

The BadgePass source option was added which will allow “Master/Slave” BadgePass systems to

stay synced up. This will allow you to have multiple BadgePass systems that you can take offsite,

for example, and sync back to the Master BadgePass.

You can now set up multiple schedules to run specific sync profiles at varying times. There are

many more scheduling options available including scheduling by the minute, hour, daily, weekly

and monthly.

External Database Search Summary

External Datasync Search allows a button to be clicked from the Identity Manager to

immediately search for and save entities from external sources. All connection and mapping

information to the source data is setup in a DataSync profile.

Details

You can setup a profile in DataSync, and Identity Manager will use that profile, along with its

field mappings and formatting, to pull the data set into BadgePass. The entity will then be

loaded into BadgePass, for further data editing and/or printing. You can configure which

DataSync profile can be used per entity and the text of the search button, in Management

Console.

Entity Card Changes Summary

Several additions and changes have been made to the Entity Card. An activation date has been

added to the Entity Card section of Identity Manager. This will allow the card to be activated,

only when the Activation Date arrives. Also, the layout of the Entity Card form layout has been

changed. The new interface allows for the user to easily see all active cards for the current

entity, as well as all inactive cards.

Details

The Entity Card layout has been redesigned to allow for the entity’s card details and card history

to be viewed in a more efficient manner.

Using the Activation Date, you can set your card to become active at a later date, as opposed to

immediate activation. Keep in mind that when you add a new card with an activation date, you

will not immediately see the card as active, because it is not yet active.

Also, this is now structured so that the entity can easily have multiple credentials of different

technology types.

You can now also configure, the default Expiration Date and Activation Date that will appear,

when a new Entity Card is created. Also, a schedule can be set so that the defaults change from

one date range to another.

Campus Filtering Summary

The ability to filter the various List values by campus has been added. This includes values such

as Visitor Type, Visit Purpose, Badges, etc.

Details

In Management Console, when a list such as Visitor Type is being viewed, you will now see a

switch to turn on Campus Filtering for that list.

Once Campus Filtering is turned on for that list, the selected Type should only be available to

the campuses where the association has been turned on.

‘Volunteer’ was the only type that was turned on for Main Campus. Below is Add New Visitor

screen in a Visitor Manager at Main Campus. Notice that ‘Volunteer’ is the only Visitor Type that

is loaded.

Client Location Reassignment Summary

When the location that a BadgePass Client is assigned to is no longer valid(it has been deleted),

you will be prompted to re-assign the location, when the client starts.

Details

The following window will allow you to choose the campus and the location for the current

client.

Barcode XDimension Summary

You can now set the XDimension for barcodes on badge designs. XDimension (for all barcode

grid symbologies, excluding the MaxiCode) defines the narrow element width for the symbol in

millimeters.

Details

You can set the XDimension for the supported barcodes, in BadgePass Studio. When you select

the barcode on the design surface, the Format tab gets focus in the ribbon menu. If you set the

aspect ratio to None, then the XDimension becomes enabled.

NOTE: On the canvas, we wrap all items in a container that allows the item to be moved /

resized / rotated. Also, we use a third party vendor to rendor the barcodes. We discovered an

issue with the third party vendor whereby the barcode does not rendor correctly within the

container when using XDimension. After much effort, they told us they were not going to fix the

issue. So, in order to view the badge in Studio as it will be printed in production, simply navigate

to File > Print and the badge preview is displayed correctly.

New Visitor Ban Functionality Summary

We have added several new pieces of functionality to the Visitor Ban experience in Visitor

Manager and in the ban related reports.

Details

Each banned visitor record now saves the username of the user logged into BadgePass when the

banned record is created and the created timestamp. In addition, any subsequent modification

to the banned record including un-banning the visitor will save a modified username and a

modified timestamp. This data will be viewable from the Banned History report.

After a visitor is banned from within the Visitor Manager, you will now see a window asking if

the visitor tried to enter the premises:

If you choose Yes, then a Deny Access will be automatically created at that time without having

to do the extra step of clicking the Deny Access button.

There is also a new permission added to allow or dis-allow users in a specific group from

banning visitors. From with Management Console, under Security/Permissions click the group,

then click the Entities tab:

This permission is currently only available on the Visitor entity type. When the permission is set

to On, then the Ban Visitor button in Visitor Manager will be enabled, otherwise it will be

disabled.

Delete Entity Summary

The ability to delete an existing entity has been added to Identity Manager.

Details

After searching for and retrieving an entity in Identity Manager, there is now a delete button in

the ribbon menu that will delete the currently selected entity and all of their associated objects

including cards, users, addresses, etc. This button will only be enabled if permissions have been

granted for delete on this entity type.

Time Manager – Shifts Spanning

Multiple Days Summary

The Time Manager now handles shifts that span multiple days in a much more intuitive way.

Details

When a shift spans more than one day, it will show up as multiple days on the time card. Only

the clock-in will be editable on the first day, and the clock out on the last day. Any days in

between ( for shifts that span more than 2 days ) will not be editable. Here is a shift that starts

at 12:00 am on 9/26/2014 and ends on 9/28/2014 at 5:00 AM.

In the case that the multi-day shift was accidental. you can delete one of the days, then the shift

will converted to a single day shift and you can modify the clock in and out on that day.

Predator Barrier Plugin Summary

This is our new sexual predator search for BadgePass. It is much faster than using the NSOPR

plugin, and is also much more efficient in the way that it allows for you to look at multiple

results and view the predator’s description.

Details

While the NSOPR plugin provides a free way to check a person against the sexual offender

registry, it can be a somewhat slow process and requires extra input and typing for the end user.

The new Predator Barrier Plugin allows for a way to quickly search against the sex offender

registry, and efficiently view detailed information. For pricing, please contact the Sales

department at BadgePass.

Setting up the Predator Barrier is just as easy as setting up NSOPR. Simply go to the Plugin

Center, and select to ‘Add’.

Collapsible Ribbons Summary

All of our ribbons now collapse, and the main application interface expands to allow the user to

take advantage of the extra screen real estate.

Details

Double click on the ribbon tabs to expand and collapse the ribbon.

If the ribbon is collapsed, then single click on one of the tab headers, and that tabs body will

overlay the main interface temporarily, to allow the user to click on one of the buttons. Once

you move your mouse from the overlayyed menu, it will disappear, showing only the tab header

once again.

TotalCard Integration Summary

BadgePass now securely integrates with TotalCard. When a new entity is created or credential is

assigned to an entity, that information is passed into TotalCard.

Details

You setup your integration with TotalCard in BadgePass Management Console. Keep in mind

that you will need to have set up your TotalCard account and configured if for use with

BadgePass, before performing the configuration in Management Console.

Once configured, BadgePass transparently notifies TotalCard of any additions or changes to

entity data.

Infinite ID Summary

Infinite ID provides third parties with an SDK to read data from BadgePass, as well as receive

specified live events.

Details

You setup InfiniteID in BadgePass Management Console. There you will enter the necessary

information about where your third party application will be running from, its communication

information and the usename/password that it will be passing.

Installer with Windows Firewall hole

punching Summary

BadgePass installers will now automatically punch the necessary holes in the local Windows

Firewall, provided the logged in user has permissions to do so.

Details

In the Enterprise(Client-Server) setup of BadgePass, tcp/ip is the method of communication

between the different services and clients. The Windows Firewall can be configured in many

ways. Depending on how the firewall was configured your problems can range from the client

not installing, to the Onsite List not being properly updated with entity check-ins and check-

outs. Essentially, several configurations can interfere with communication from server-to-client

and/or client-to-server. The server and client installers will punch the necessary holes in the

Windows Firewall, as long as the logged in user has permissions to do so.

Card Format Utility Summary

We have added a utitlity in Management Console to assist the user in figuring out the correct

parameters, when attempting to put a new Card Format in the system.

Details

You will get the following screen when you choose to add a new ‘Card Format’ or edit an

existing one.

The utitlity will allow you to read a card and then tweek the different parameters(Parity, FC Start,

CN length, etc.) to see which values will give you the data that you are looking for. This tool will

be invaluable when trying to add a custom card format.

New SQL Summary Views Summary

We have added a series of SQL views to the BadgePass database. This will offer the user a

simpler experience when attempting to custom reporting.

Details

Currently there is one view per entity type. This combines the majority of the personal data for

the entities, into a single view for that entity type. There are columns for First Name, Custom

Data fields, Address City, etc. By release there will be 3 more views per entity type. These other

views will provide additional information for Visits, Entity Trackings, and Time Trackings.

for that entity type. There are columns for First Name, Custom Data fields, Address City, Card

data etc. There are other views that provide additional information for Visits, Entity Trackings,

and Time Trackings.

isLog DataWriter Integration Summary

You can now use isLog DataWriter in conjunction with Identity Manager to better take

advantage of your smart card investment.

Details

The DataWriter Plug-In allows encoding data to a PCSC compliant smartcard. A plug-in can be

defined to perform encoding either during Printing of the smartcard to a BadgePass printer or

when clicking the smartcard Read button from Identity Manager.

DataWriter proper is a third party application that must be purchased and configured separate

from BadgePass. The DataWriter Plug-In is BadgePass’ way of communicating to DataWriter

what data to encode and which DataWriter configured parameters to use.

RFIdea Prox Reader Integration Summary

Identity Manager will now be able to use all modern RFIdea Prox Readers to read prox cards.

Details

The Prox cards can either be read during the print process, in conjunction with a supported

badge printer, or they can read using a RFIdea desktop reader.

Physical Lockdown Button Summary

You will now be able to Lockdown an entire door group, using a physical button.

Details

Previously you could only lockdown by reading a valid card 3 times at designated readers. You

can now setup BadgePass to perform the lockdown using a physical Input. The button will need

to be pressed the 3 times, for the lockdown to occur.

The lockdown is setup, by setting up a Door Group, turning on the ‘Enable Button Lockdown‘

option and then selecting the input that the physical button was setup on.

Communication Encryption Summary

You will now be able to encrypt all BadgePass network encryption, by taking advantage of your

existing Active Directory infrastructure.

Details

By turning on the encryption in the Management Console, any communication between services

and clients will take place over encrypted communication channels. This ideally needs to be

done during the initial setup of the BadgePass system. If this is turned on after the fact, any

BadgePass Clients or satellite products will need to be reinstalled in order to be functional.

This is considered advanced functionality. The decision to implement this needs to be made in

advance of installation and configuration. Ask for the Communication Encryption

documentation to view the steps that need to be taken, to smoothly take advantage of this

functionality.

Ink Canvas Summary

InkCanvas is a capture technology that has been added to the BadgePass Client.

Details

This is a free form drawing canvas that can be used with a mouse or touch technology. A good

example of when this can be used, is for capturing a person’s signature on a touch-enabled

device with the person using their finger or supported stylus.

Monitor Pointe Security Summary

Authentication and authorization has been added to Management Console, for Monitor Pointe.

Details

What a user can see or perform in Monitor Pointe is now controlled by permissions set in

Management Console.

What hardware that the Monitor Pointe user is able to view, is primarily determined by their

Group membership. You can further filter what the user can view, by turning on the filter for

Campus Membership.

What hardware that the Monitor Pointe user is able to control, is solely determined by their

Group Membership.
