The Halloween party on the 28th October was

another happy childrens event in the Hall. Mr Dan

was his usual magical self and kept the youngsters

fully entertained. Hot dogs and cakes were the

order of the afternoon. The children were very

well behaved and looked brilliant in their

Halloween fancy dress outfits. A credit to all their

parents who appeared to enjoy the proceedings as

much as the children!

The Coffee Club held a coffee and cake morning

on the 13th November to celebrate our third year

at Kilham Hall. Thanks to everyone who attended

and who brought raffle prizes to the gathering. The

Committee appreciates the help given in raising

funds for the Hall through our Tuesday get-

togethers.

December the 11th from 10.45 a.m. until 2.00 p.m.

we shall be having our Christmas lunch of pie and

peas. Tickets for the event can be purchased from

any committee member. Members are free and

non-members £3. Our last Club date is the 18th

December and we will re-open on the 8th January

2013.

December the 12th from 6.30 p.m. the Parish

Council have organised a Carol concert attended

by Children from St Wilfrid’s School at Kilham

Happy Christmas and a healthy happy 2013 from

New Plans for Hayfield. Peel Investments (North) Limited are seeking to

develop new community and sports facilities on

two sites in Hayfield Green, one on the Former

RAF sports ground on Hayfield Lane and the other

adjacent to the Hill House School on First Avenue.

In an effort to raise funds for these facilities, they

also plan to develop part of the Hayfield Lane site

for housing providing approximately 100 new

homes.

Site plans to have a toddler play area, Community

Centre, outdoor games area, associated car park

and landscaped areas.

The First Avenue site will have an all weather pitch

and a Sports centre comprising a four court sports

hall, viewing gallery, changing room facilities, gym,

function room and associated car park.

The Peel project team aim to submit plans by the

end of November 2012. A public exhibition was

held on Wednesday 14th November at the

Duxbury Theatre for members of the public to

view plans and discuss the proposals. If you were

unable to attend this event, you can view the

material online at

www.thehayfieldcentre.madewithjam.org

will manage the sports facilities on First Avenue,

which will be available for use to the public outside

Gardening Club At the recent Doncaster In Bloom Awards, we won 3rd prize in the Young Persons category,

with the judges awarding us a silver gilt. They came to talk to our Gardening Club and look at

our gardens in the summer and were really impressed with the children’s enthusiasm for

gardening.

Gardening Club also won 3rd prize for their stand at the Countryside Live Show in Harrogate.

We had to design a stand to show our gardening activities from the past year. The judges

were especially impressed with our cake recipe, using ingredients from our allotment. We

made the cake in school and really enjoyed eating it!

Visitors in school This half term as part of their learning challenge ‘Who

would live in a house like this?’ our Hawk class will be

looking at plants and animals, what they need to survive,

their habitats and food chains. To get this learning chal-

lenge off to a good start, as part of their ‘WOW’ they

had some special visitors in school, which were African

land snails. The class enjoyed looking at the snails and

holding them and describing what they felt like and

thought of questions that they would like to find out

about the snails. We will be using our WOW to link with our English and we will be writing

instructions on how to look after African land snails.

Caythorpe Court We have had another successful weekend resi-

dential to PGL’s activity centre at Caythorpe

Court in Grantham. At Caythorpe Court the

children took part in a wide range of activities

including, zip wire, low ropes, trapeze, quad

biking, orienteering, and the vertical challenge.

This is a fantastic weekend that the children

look forward to every year, where they give

each other their support and encouragement

to try activities that they might never have

done before. The children are always deter-

mined to push themselves past their own limits

and never fail to amaze us by their bravery as

they meet their own challenges on the climbing

activities and zip wire It was another great

trip to Caythorpe Court.

Eden Camp visit Our Eagles class went to Eden Camp in North

Yorkshire as part of their learning challenge,

‘Was it that bad to have lived through World War Two?’ Eden Camp is an original World

War two prisoner of war camp, which was used to accommodate Italian and German prison-

ers in 29 wooden huts. The huts are now used to re-create a unique atmosphere using sights,

sounds, smells and moving figures that makes it feel like you have travelled back in time to

wartime Britain. The children visited each hut where they experienced The Blitz, Women at

War, The Home Front and How Britain Prepared. There is even a music hut where you can go

and listen to wartime songs and watch plays from that period. The children learnt a lot from

this experience and found it invaluable with their World War Two work.

Branton St Wilfrid’s Primary school have fun raising funds for

Children in NeedChildren in Need The Children and Staff at St Wilfrid’s enjoyed a fun packed day at school in support of Children in Need.

Everyone came dressed in whatever they wanted with all the staff in crazy hats! During assembly, the

children were reminded of what Children in Need is about and then they all paraded cat walk style in

front of the whole school and parents. There were some fabulous outfits from 5yr old rock stars to com-

bat ballerinas!! You name it, it turned up

on Friday 16th November!

All children made a donation to wear an

outfit of their choice and they had a

bring and buy stall, a ‘design your own

bandana’ competition and sold Pudsey

eye patches and friendship bracelets to

raise as much money as possible for this

special cause. At the time of print, the

final amount raised had not been

counted so we will keep you informed

in the following issue of the Arrow.

Christmas Carol Singing

This will take place on Wednesday 12 December 2012 at 6.30 p.m. at Kilham Hall, Kilham

Lane Branton with musical accompaniment from a local organist and attended by children from

Branton St Wilfrid’s School. Festive refreshments for a small charge will be available. There will also

be a raffle the proceeds of which will be divided between two cancer charities Aurora and Firefly.

Road Junction Improvments at the Fork Junction of Whiphill Top Lane

After requests from the parish council over many months with regard to safety DMBC has

confirmed that it is intended to undertake major improvement work to the junction on Doncaster

Road with the fork area of Whiphll Top Lane by introducing a right turning lane. The work is

planned for March 2013.

Parking and Maintenance of Pavements and Grass Verges

Residents are again requested to refrain from parking on pavements in order to keep pedestrians

safe by not obstructing the footpaths and also not to park on the grass verges in order to maintain

the appearance of these areas around the village. Please also do not allow your dog(s) to foul any

public areas. Please collect and dispose of any waste in the dog litter bins that are available

throughout the parish.

Creation of a Village Plan

The parish council is seeking views from residents as to whether there would be sufficient support

from members of the community to create a village plan. This would involve undertaking a

consultation with residents to ascertain their views on their local area including the facilities

currently available and how these may be enhanced for the benefit of the community.

This would provide a useful framework for the parish council to plan how best it can meet the

future needs of the community and strengthen any bids for external funding using the evidence

provided by residents.

If you wish to find out more about this please contact the Clerk to the Council (telephone 01302

772493 or email [email protected] ).

South Yorkshire Police - Non-Emergency Telephone Number - 101

Earlier this year the Home Office introduced a single telephone number of 101 for the reporting of

non- emergency incidents in order to reduce the pressure on the 999 service. In South Yorkshire

one third of 999 calls were deemed to be non-emergency and the new number has been created to

give the public a memorable number to report crimes and concerns that do not require an emergency response.

Halloween Event at Kilham Hall

The Halloween event on 27 October 2012 was again a great success and the Kilham Hall

Management Committee and all those involved with the event are thanked for organising yet

another activity for the benefit of the community.

The parish council would like to wish

everyone a very

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Science Week The children enjoyed a successful

and enjoyable Science Week at

school, taking part in a range of

activities and investigations. Every

class extended their half-termly

Science topic, and took part in

investigations in their lessons. For

example, Classes R and 1

investigated using their senses,

whilst Class 2 looked at what

happens to ingredients in a recipe

when they are heated. The children

all took part in Science Fairs, where they investigated bubbles, their senses and

electricity, and had to guess what was in feely-boxes!

We had some very exciting visitors in school during Science Week too! The Animal

Roadshow visited Classes R, 4 and 6 and introduced the children to a range of exotic

and unusual creatures, including a bullfrog and a giant rat! Class 3 and Class 5 enjoyed a

hands-on bones workshop where they identified different animal bones and

constructed life-sized dinosaur skulls and a triceratops skeleton! All of the classes also

watched and took part in a Science magic show, performed by Mr Tony Charles, a

Science Magician, who demonstrated tricks based on Science.

There were also some fantastic trips during Science Week. Class 2 visited the

Hepworth in Wakefield and learnt about Art and Science; they made ‘fabulous felt’

pictures using the properties of felt. Class 1 also visited Eureka and had an excellent

day learning about the body and the five senses!

The children had an interesting and memorable week, and enjoyed investigating!

Eden Camp

On October the 23rd Class 6 went to Eden Camp a World War 2 museum which used to

be an Italian prisoner of war camp. It was a cold, damp day but that did not curb their

enthusiasm and upon arrival they set about visiting as many huts as they could as well

as looking at all the static displays of World War 2 vehicles. They were able to trace

the war from its beginning to its conclusion.

What really moved them was how people survived the wars, both civilian and military

personnel. Their favourite huts were the U-Boat menace – where they felt as though

they were in a submarine which is being depth charged from above. It was very dark

and cramped and they were glad to get out, it also smelled like stale food and stale air.

The next hut that they preferred was the blitz, where they could see, smell and hear

the effects of German bombing. They saw the bombed houses and trapped people, for

some it was very frightening. They walked down a street during the war where they saw

the effects of the war;

The closed shops, the lack of food, the limited goods there were for sale in the war!

They also found out about all the jobs that women did in the men’s absence. The music

hall was a much enjoyed 15 minutes; this showed them that people could enjoy

themselves despite the horrors of the war.

As usual there was not enough time to see every hut, but they came away with a

better understanding of World War 2 affected the lives of everyday people.

Eureka! As part of our science topic Class 1 visited Eureka!, the science museum for

children in Halifax. We visited the ‘Me and My Body’ gallery. The first part of the

gallery allowed us to find out about our own bodies by weighing ourselves and then

measuring everything from how tall we are

to how big our steps are when we walk. Next

we enjoyed finding about the insides of our

bodies by exploring all the hands on

practical activities. We especially liked

finding the wobbly tooth and watching the

chewing machine. After the gallery visit we

were free to explore the rest of the

museum. We became car mechanics fixing

wheels on cars, we shopped in Marks and

Spencers and explored the dark attic in the

house. We had lots of fun at Eureka!

We hope you enjoyed reading our news and

look forward to sharing more of our

activities next month.

Best Wishes,

C. Barnes,

Acting Head Teacher

Auckley Parish Council Newsletter November/December 2012

Public Consultation Relating to Proposed Developments at Hurst and Hayfield Lane,

Auckley Consultations have been held regarding both these proposals to encourage feed-back from residents. Members of the Parish Council have attended the consultations to make their views known and continue to be involved with these projects to ensure the interests of the community are protected. They are aware that concerns have

been expressed relating to the proposed housing and recreational development at the Hayfield Lane site, but hope residents will support the project to provide much-needed community facilities. When the developers seek full planning approval Doncaster Council’s Planning Department will invite interested parties to comment

on the applications. If you have views please ensure that the Planning Department is aware of them.

Community Consultation – Possible Neighbourhood Plan The November edition of the ‘Arrow’ featured an item asking Auckley residents for their views on whether the Parish Council should proceed with the implementation of a Neighbourhood Plan, and if anyone was interested to become part of the process. Strong public interest is required to initiate the project, and unfortunately only

one resident has so far expressed an interest. This means we are currently unable to proceed with a plan.

‘Carols Round the Tree’ Our carol singing round the tree at Main Street, Auckley will take place on a different day this year, i.e. Wednesday, 19th December 2012, commencing at 7.00 p.m. The Armthorpe Elmfield Band will accompany the singing and a collection will be made in aid of the Doncaster branch of ‘MIND’, an organisation that promotes

and protects good mental health for all.

“Auckley Parish Council would like to wish everyone a

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”

A Right Royal

Event

So we’re now in the last month of

2012. The Christmas plans are no

doubt well under way. The turkey

ordered, the tree up already, an early

card from overseas has arrived, and of

course the lights on the outside of the

house are up, and this year success!

They can indeed be seen from outer

space!

But rather than look forward to

Christmas. Take a second to think back

over 2012. What will you remember it

for?

The Queens Jubilee – parties, the

concert on the Mall, the River Pageant,

Queen Elizabeth’s commitment to her

role.

The Olympics and Paralympics – the

opening ceremony, gold medals, the

athletes, the helpers, the world coming

together, the closing ceremony,

fireworks, Her Majesty jumping from

the helicopter!

I think it’s fair to say that those two

events enabled some celebration in the

UK this year. They were different, they

were special, they were massive points

in our nation’s history and they have

been recorded and written down for

future generations.

Strip out the razzamatazz and the hype

though, and what are we left with? A

royal person and a big event.

Now let’s now think of Christmas.

Strip out the razzamatazz and the hype,

and what are we left with? The King of

Kings and the greatest event in world

history, recorded for every generation.

I pray you have a Christ filled Christmas

and a peaceful New Year.

Blessings

Revd. Neil Redeyoff
