Thanks for choosing Sony.The Backstage™ Software Suite delivers total PC security with:

1 year of Norton Internet Security™ 2010 to protect against malware and PC viruses

1 year of Spare Backup® Online Data Backup and Migration software

Compatibility requirementsThe Backstage Software Suite is designed specifically for Sony VAIO® PCs and supports the following operating systems:

Microsoft® Windows® XP (32-bit) with Service Pack 2 or later

Microsoft® Windows Vista® (all versions)

Microsoft® Windows® 7 (all versions)

Important information about your software activation codes! Your software activation codes are located in the interior panel of your Backstage Software Suite folder.

There is one code for each software program. Be sure to keep these safe. You will need to enter these codes when installing the software suite.

Note: The codes are case sensitive.

Welcome to the Backstage Software Suite.Before you begin, make sure you are connected to the Internet and all other programs are closed.

1 To begin, insert the Backstage Software Suite CD into your CD/DVD drive.

2 Once the main menu appears (Fig. 1), if you would like to download the entire software suite, click Install the Complete Software Suite.

3 Click on Norton Internet Security 2010 to begin installing the program. (Fig. 2)

Next step: Be sure to have your software activation codes handy; you’ll need them to activate each program.

Note: If you wish only to install Norton® Internet Security 2010 on up to 2 additional PCs, click Install Norton Internet Security 2010 on additional PCs.

1 To install Norton Internet Security™ 2010, click Next. (Fig. 3)

2 Then, follow the steps provided in the installer.

Next step: In the following pages, you’ll find instructions on navigating the various installation scenarios. Find the scenario that fits you best.

1 When you reach the screen shown in Fig. 4, click Subscribe Now.

2 You will then be taken to the activation screen. Enter your Norton Internet Security™ 2010 activation code where indicated below (Fig. 5).

Note: Do NOT click the Subscribe Now option.

3 After installation is complete, you will notice that the VIP Protection™ Suite installer has automatically “minimized”. To return to the installer, if necessary, click on it in the task bar at the bottom of your screen.

Installing Norton Internet Security™ 2010Option A: If you have already activated your Norton Internet Security™ 2010 trial . . .

Installing Norton Internet Security™ 2010Option B: If you have the Norton Internet Security™ 2010 trial but have not activated it . . .

1 You will be prompted to uninstall the trial. On the screen shown to the left, click Please remove all user data including my stored passwords & quarantine contents (Fig. 6).

2 The installer will then uninstall the trial program and you will be prompted to restart your computer. Click Restart Now when prompted (Fig. 7).

3 When your computer has completed restarting, re-launch the VIP Protection Suite™ and click Norton Internet Security™ 2010.

4 When prompted, enter your Norton Internet Security™ 2010 activation code.

Installing Norton Internet Security™ 2010Option C: If you have another type of antivirus software installed on your computer . . .

1 If we find another type of antivirus software on your PC, you will be prompted to uninstall it before proceeding. Click Uninstall when you reach the screen shown in Fig.8.

2 The other antivirus software will then be uninstalled and your computer will be automatically restarted.

3 When your computer has completed restarting, the page shown in Fig.9 will automatically launch and you will be prompted to enter your Norton Internet Security™ 2010 activation code.

Note: After installation is complete, if you need to return to the Backstage Software Suite installer, you will need to re-launch the program.

Installing Norton Internet Security™ 2010Option D: If you already have a paid subscription to Norton Internet Security™. . .

If you have over 30 days remaining on a paid subscription to Norton Internet Security™, we will let you know how many days are left on your subscription (Fig.10).

Because a new subscription to Norton Internet Security™ 2010 would overwrite an existing subscription, the VIP Protection™ Suite will not install your new subscription until you have under 30 days remaining on your existing one.

Your activation code will remain valid, so it is OK to wait until a later date before installing Norton Internet Security™ 2010 from the Backstage Software Suite.

Installing Spare Backup® Before you begin, make sure you are connected to the Internet and all other programs are closed.

1 Click on Spare Backup Online Data Migration software to begin installing the program. Click Install Backup Software. (Fig. 11)

2 The First and Last Name, and email address should pre-populate from the Backstage registration. Enter a password and click Continue. (Fig. 12)Fig. 11

3 Choose three security questions and enter the answers in the space provided. Once chosen, these questions CANNOT be changed later.

Select the checkbox to accept the Spare Backup terms and conditions and click Continue. (Fig. 13)

4 Take note of your account, password and Spare Key information. Click the buttons to either print or email the account information. (Fig. 14)

5 Click Download and install to install Spare Backup on your computer. The download will begin.

6 The Security Warning box will open. Click Run.

7 The InstallShield Wizard will prepare and install Spare Backup.

8 When the Spare Backup software is loaded onto your computer, the End User License Agreement will display. Accept the End User License Agreement and click Next to open Spare Backup. (Spare Backup window is shown in Fig. 15)

9 Select a File Type to back up. Customize which file types to back up within each of the categories by clicking the appropriate category. Check the Advanced Options box above the file types to select a specific folder. (Fig. 16)

10 Click Next Backup Schedule to set up a backup schedule for the selected files. Select the backup frequency and click Next Begin Backup to start backing up files. (Fig. 17)

11 Click the Instant Backup button to Begin Backing up Files. (Fig. 18)

12 The Backup may take several hours. Allow the backup to run in the background and continue using the computer as normal. (Fig. 19)
