How it was started ?

Safe-I means “I am Safe” SAFE-I a flagship program was started by BD India in

2008 in association with Indian Academy of Paediatrics’ Kerala and National Rural Health Mission-Kerala

This program was carried out as pilot in Ernakulum in 2009-10

The content of chapter five(NABH) elaborated in this program breaking it down into simple achievable content that help hospital in addressing minimum quality issues

In Ernakulum district 32(12 govt. and 22 pvt.) hospitals applied for this program and 20 hospital achieved it

How it was started ?

Seeing the success and the improvement in quality of patient care, NABH and BD collaborated in expanding the safe-I certification program across medium and small sized hospitals in India.

This program is being viewed as stepping stone towards NABH accreditation.

MoU was signed in 2011 by NABH and BD to expand this program across the country.

Current Status

SAFE-I was launched in Feb/March 2012 in two states of India, Kerala and Punjab.

So far 20 hospital have registered for this program,10 in Kerala and 10 in Punjab

Handholding activities have already begin in 4 hospitals by state level safe-I consultant.

Hoping to have few Safe-I certified hospital by the end of October 2012 in both states.

Training :- Total No of Nurses trained for Safe-I =5650 Total No. of Drs trained for Safe-I =1466 No. of 4 hrs training conducted = 226

Vaccination :-Total No. of Nurses vaccinated=5650Total No. of Nurses newly vaccinated for safe-I =1492

Total No. of Drs vaccinated for Safe-I = 17No. of Hospitals adopted vaccination Plan for Safe-I = 25/32

100% vaccinated in all Safe-I Certified Hospitals

Infection Control :-Infection control Committee, Infection control Manual,

Infection control Nurse -Newly implemented for Safe-I= 25/32

HCW Safety:-NSI reporting, newly implemented for safe-I = 25/32Free PEP in NSI ,implemented for Safe-I = 18/32
