BackgroundKathmandu University (KU) is an autonomous, not-for-profit, non - government institution dedicated to maintaining high standards of academic excellence. KU was established by the Act of the Parliament of Nepal in November 1991. KU has its origins in Kathmandu Valley Campus, which was founded in 1985 to run an Intermediate of Science program.
Within a period of 24 years, KU has not only built reasonable infrastructure, but also established a track record of academic excellence. The University
offers various undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programs in science, engineering, medicine, management, education, arts, law, pharmacy, environment, music, human & natural resources, information technology and biotechnology among others, through its School of Science, School of Management, School of Engineering, School of Medical Sciences, School of Education, School of Law and School of Arts.

Location
The University is has its central Campus in Dhulikhel which is located at a distance of about 30 kilometers east of Kathmandu Valley. Spread over 18.11 hectares of land, the University enjoys a hilly landscape and panoramic views of the Himalayas.
KU also has its School of Management in Balkumari, Lalitpur and School of Education and School of Arts at Hattiban, Lalitpur.

Other Featuresl Kathmandu University High School (KUHS) in Chaukot,
Panauti, is set up to provide education to the children of faculty and staff of KU in particular and the Local Communities of Dhulikhel, Banepa and Panauti in general.
l The University has interdisciplinary courses and community- focused teaching and learning practices.
l The University comprises of, 10 percent international students and around 70 percent international degree holding faculties.
l Kathmandu University, through its teaching practices, is developing towards becoming a Teaching Cum Research University and with its best residential facilities, is expanding into a residential university.
l Kathmandu University Technical Training Center (KUTTC) is an autonomous technical training institute operated by the University to provide skill-oriented training programs.
l Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU) is a Chinese Language and Culture institution, cooperatively established by Hebei University of Economics and Business China and KU, to offer extensive Chinese Language and Culture courses.
l The C.V. Raman Auditorium is the Main Auditorium at the University with the capacity of 320 seats where extra curricular activities such as: academic, cultural programs, seminars and workshops are organized.
