They’re united by a goal to offer treatments that work. So when Dr. Ern was introduced by one of his mentors to Teeth Tomorrow, he knew he wanted to be a part of it. Teeth Tomorrow is the first organized network for dentists who work in advanced implants. The treatment uses a full dental arch made of Prettau Zirconia. It’s a material commonly used in dental materials, but is now used exclusively for bridges that feel natural and both are strong and reliable. Plus, the surface if the Prettau Zirconia bridge is nonporous, so it’s resistant to stains and chipping. The unique thing about Teeth Tomorrow restorations is their specific surgical protocols. It combines the benefits of full dentures with the technology of dental implants. The whole treatment is planned using a CAT scan, and the Prettau Zirconia restoration is completed in a lab, not chairside. These days, so many doctors are caught up in delivering a permanent solution in an hour or a day. But with teeth “tomorrow,” the results are far more beneficial because gum tissue had a chance to shrink, so there’s no bleeding the next day. The end result is less time in the dental chair and a better restoration overall. Unlike “all-on-four” dental implants restorations, Teeth Tomorrow requires placing six implants on the upper arch and five on the bottom. This method has yielded a 98 percent success rate. No patient is ever without teeth after the procedure is complete. And your bridge is customized to fit you perfectly. We’re proud to report that Dr. Ern is the only dentist in Westchester and Putnam County offering Teeth Tomorrow. It’s perfect for patients who have had a frustrating dental life, always in need of a treatment or surgery upon visiting the dentist. This is a permanent solution that works, and Dr. Ern can even treat patients who are currently wearing dentures. Patients eligible for Teeth Tomorrow pay only the comprehensive fee. There are no financial surprises or fees for every little thing. The flat fee includes compilation of dental records, sedation, bone grafts, the provisional restoration, and the Prettau Zirconia bridge. We’re excited to offer this treatment at Putnam Dental Associates because we pride ourselves on adapting to technology. We combine advanced technology with a friendly, caring, personal environment. And Dr. Ern is excited to meet lots of new people he can help with Teeth Tomorrow. It’s the solution some patients have waited a long time for! With proper care and maintenance, you can have a beautiful smile for a lifetime. Every patient is different, so schedule your consultation today to discover more about how Teeth Tomorrow can change your life for the better! BACK-TO-SCHOOL The school year is back. It happens so fast. Only yesterday, it felt like the beginning of June. Now we’re charging back into the fray. Starting school again with your family can be intimidating. Here are a few hacks to help you fearlessly handle the new school year. BACKPACK POST OFFICE Last year, how many times did your child lose a note from their teacher in the cluttered recesses of their backpack? Or hand you an illegible sheet of crumpled paper? Avoid that stress this year with a durable document folder or a large zippered pencil case. Label it “post office” and put it in your child’s backpack. Tell them how important their job is as an official postmaster. All mail from their teacher goes directly into the folder or case, rather than just tossed in the backpack. BREAK IN NEW SHOES FAST Getting new shoes can be exciting, except when it comes time to break them in. The pain of new shoes can make it hard to convince children to wear them. But there’s a fast way around that. Have your child wear a thick pair of socks and then put the new shoes on their feet. Take a hair dryer, turn it on hot, and blow dry the shoes around the tight spots. When the shoes cool down, they will be both comfortable and stylish. MAKE SCHEDULES YOUR WALLPAPER Getting on a strict routine again after the summer break can be a bit of a shock. Help yourself remember the new schedule fast by taking a picture of it and making it the background of your phone or tablet. Write down drop off and pick up times, extracurricular activities, and PTA meetings you need to remember. Every time you check your phone, you’ll be reminded of where you have to be next. - The Team at Putnam Dental 855-347-7476 | www.putnamdental.com | 1 4 | www.putnamdental.com | 855-347-7476 APPOINTMENT TODAY, TEETH TOMORROW Inside This Issue: Survival Hacks Page 2 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 The Need for Dental Care in Pregnancy Special Invisalign Offer! SMILE, BABY:The Value of Keeping Up With Oral Health While Pregnant

A study by Delta Dental finds only four in 10 Americans floss at least once a day, and 20 percent never floss at all. Chances are, you’ve probably heard your dentist tell you, at least once, “You need to floss more!” While some people would rather do an unpleasant chore than floss, the reality of flossing is that it’s a necessary and essential part of good dental health — it’s the biggest weapon against plaque.

Your toothbrush simply cannot reach between your teeth or under your gums. Leaving these places untouched can come back to haunt you. Plaque, untreated, leads to tartar — the uncomfortable, hard buildup your dentist has to scrape off your teeth. Tartar buildup is a precursor to gingivitis, the first stage of gum disease. Bad breath and swollen gums aren’t the only side effects of gum disease. Severe cases can lead to tooth and bone loss, and bacterial growth that can spread to the rest of the body. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found a connection between poor oral health and diabetes, respiratory illness, and even heart disease.

Flossing helps prevent this. It takes only a few minutes, and it comes with a financial incentive — for adults and children. The Children’s Dental Health Project found the dental costs of kids who received earlier checkups and flossed properly were 40 percent lower than that of their peers.

If it’s been a while since you flossed, you might experience a slight discomfort or find that your gums bleed a little. This is a result of plaque buildup, and it will vanish as your gums become healthier. If you have a hard time with reach or coordination, try floss holders, known as flossers. These are available at any grocery store. It’s also easier to get into the habit of flossing regularly by doing it while watching TV or listening to music.

As for the age-old question of whether you should floss or brush first, the American Dental Association says it doesn’t really matter — as long as you’re doing both.

We take notice when our patients maintain good oral hygiene. We see a lot of kids, ages 13 and under, who blow us away at every appointment when they come in with no cavities.

There’s a club here at Putnam Dental called the Cavity-Free Club, and your kid

can be a member if they have zero cavities, including if they come in and get any cavities they have filled.

As part of the honor of being a Cavity-Free Club member, your child can have their picture placed on the Cavity-Free Tree. Not only will they enjoy public recognition of their accomplishment, but they’ll also be in the running for an exciting quarterly prize valued at $100!

It’s important for kids to have regular dental checkups and cleanings. Now, with the Cavity-Free Club, they have one more incentive to make it happen!
