Back-to-School Night

Student Arrival and Departure
• Student arrival: children may come into the room at 8:45 a.m. Children will be supervised from 8:30-8:50 a.m.
• Tardy bell rings at 8:50. If a student is late he/she has to get a tardy pass from the office to enter the classroom.
• Departure from school: students are dismissed at 3:25 or 3:30.
• Our school policy states that a teacher must have in writing any changes in your child’s departure from school. If there are changes in your child’s departure schedule, please send me a note that morning.
• In case of an emergency (a change during the school hours) please contact the office at 299-4411 ext. 5601, and they will notify me of the change.

Supplies
• Personal belongings: all coats, jackets, lunch boxes and school bags should be clearly labeled with your child’s name.
• Backpacks: please send a backpack or school bag with your child each day. This provides a place to put important notes or items that must go home with your child.
• All school supplies such as
pencils, glue, crayons, etc.
Are considered “community
property”.
• Treasure chest: please send
in old toys such as happy
meal toys for our class
treasure chest.
Birthdays
• If you would like to bring
treats for your child’s
birthday, please let me
know. The treats must be
purchased, not homemade.
We have 26 students in the
class.
• Please do not pass out
birthday party invitations
at school, unless you will
be inviting all the
students.
Snacks
• Your child may bring a
snack each day. Your
child may also bring a
water bottle to keep at
their seat, but they will not
be allowed to keep it there
if it becomes a problem.

Lunch
• Parents are more than welcome to eat with
us! Lunch starts at 11:10 a.m. Meet us at
building C (the cafeteria) after getting a
visitor tag from the office in building D.
Read Twenty Minutes a Night• Shared reading: parent
reads a page, student reads a page; Both read together; Use rhyming or predictable book (brown bear, brown bear) and student fills in areas they know.
• Parent reads: picture books, chapter a night from chapter book, etc.
• Student reads to parent: they may use pictures to read; This is a pre-reading skill.
Homework
• Nightly Reading- a book will be
sent home each night in the
binder and it needs to be
returned the following day. This
will start Monday, August 29th.
By signing your child’s agenda
each night you are assuring me
that you are reading 20 minutes
every night.

Sticker Charts
Your child can earn stickers on his/her sticker charts when they complete their nightly homework, follow our classroom agreements, etc.
Your child can also lose stickers if he/she is not following our classroom agreements.
Once they have a full chart (25 stickers), they can visit our classroom treasure chest.
Report Cards
• Report cards: these are sent out each quarter. There may be X’s in areas due to the fact that we have not introduced that specific skill yet.
• Grading: in second grade we do not give letter grades. On the report cards we will be using a number system.

Workbooks
• We have workbooks in write source,
handwriting, social studies, and math.
• These workbooks will not be completed at
the end of the year, but can be a great tool
for summer learning.
Free and Reduced Lunch
•You are now able to apply for Free and Reduced Meals
online. Parents may fill out the application at
www.schoollunchapp.com. The data is transmitted to
the Jenks Child Nutrition offices.
•You will need to have your student’s ID number,
name, grade, school, and birthdate.
•Paper applications are still available at the
cafeteria, building offices, and the enrollment
center.
