Communication• Inform the office and the homeroom teacher of any
absences and planned late arrivals.
• Teachers will respond to parent communications within
48 hours in accordance with the ASFS Handbook.
• Ms. Lewis will send out a Weekly Update email each
Sunday. This email will include important information
and reminders about the week ahead.
• Look for the “Red Folder” every Wednesday with
announcements and student work. Look for papers to
sign and return

Daily Routines• Announcements begin at 8:55 am. 8:55 am. 8:55 am. 8:55 am. Instruction begins
immediately after announcements.
• Students should arrive each school day with their
fully-charged iPad. Chargers should stay at home.
Students take their iPads home every day.
• Student fill in their agenda each morning with daily
assignments and reminders.

and grow with practice, perseverance, and effort.

Fourth Grade -- Increasing Responsibility• Emphasis on self-advocacy, organization, and
study habits.
• Balance of leadership and academics in school:
Tech Crew, Safety Patrols, Band, Orchestra,
Lego Robotics, Odyssey of the Mind
• Instrumental Music: Students are responsible
for making up classwork missed during
instrumental sectionals.

Homework• Students will be responsible for obtaining four
“green lights” on Reflex Math each week (Monday
through Sunday). Begins next Monday.
• Students are strongly encouraged to read for at
least 30 minutes each night.
• Students will have one at-home project in VA Studies
each quarter and will need to study for tests.

Grading • ASFS is adopting standards-based grading this year.
Students will no longer receive letter grades.
• Students will receive a quarterly progress report with 4
to 6 standards for reading, writing, math, science, and
social studies.
• For each standard, the progress report will indicate one
of the following:
-- Meets standard
-- Approaching mastery
-- Developing mastery
-- Insufficient evidence
