Study plan Bachelor of Social Work An understanding of professional social work as an interplay between profession, societal conditions and relationships of social policy is recurrent in the structure and composition of the course. The teaching is built on humanistic values and traditions related to the UN¿s Declaration on Human Rights and relevant UN conventions, as are also proclaimed in the profession¿s basic ethical statements. Weight is also given to developing awareness of the basic values of the profession by developing the students¿ ability to reflect critically on their own values, attitudes and philosophies of life. The study will thus educate user-oriented, reflected and analytical professional practitioners who are qualified to exercise care services in regard to people in vulnerable life situations.     The bachelor's degree in social work (social worker) provides, amongst other things, the basis for seeking admission to the Master in SocialScience with specialization in Social Work at Nord University. In addition, a number of colleges and universities provide relevant furthereducation opportunities.

    Students who wish to practice in one of the places the university has an agreement with abroad can apply for this by 20 June. Applicants mustsubmit a personal application, letters of recommendation and conduct a personal interview. Applicants are ranked according to an overallassessment of grade results from the first academic year, application, letters of recommendation and interview.

    No specific costs other than semester registration fee and course literature.

    The Norwegian system for grading and assessment using the letter grades A - F, in which A denotes the best/highest grade and F denotes "notpassed". Work can also be assessed as "passed", "not passed", "approved" and "not approved".

    Compulsory attendance and participation in activities. Assessment includes oral examination, reflective studies, communication training andpreparation for professional practice. Refer to specific regulations related to complusory attendance.

    Supervised professional practice for one semester. Professional practice must be approved in accordance with relevant regulations.

    Students must pass all examinations in the first year of study in order to commende the second year of study.

    Students must expect to attend lectures in English in some lectures, and that some syllabus may be in English.

    The final examination in the programme is an oral examination in Interdisciplinary Professional Learning.

    The programme is evaluated via student questionnaire, as well as by the programme director. The evaluations form a part of the University'squality assurance system.

  • The programs practice section is two-fold. The first part, which lasts four weeks, is completed during the first and second semesters of thestudy as parallel practice. The second part, which has a duration of twenty weeks, is completed in the fourth semester of the program. Thispart of practice is a full time practice. The student receives guidance during both practice periods. Each part of the practice is assessed to pass /fail according to the criteria set out in a separate rules of practice. There are written assignments related to both practice periods that areassessed according to the grades approved / not approved. All written assignments must be approved in order for the practical part of theeducation to be passed successfully.

    Students must expect work in the afternoon / evening in relation to the practice of 1 and 2 semesters.

    In connection with practice of 4 semesters, students must expect to have practice outside Bodø, as the whole of Nordland and the northernpart of Trøndelag is a practice area.

    Teaching methods and learning activities consist of a mixture of lectures, student activity, seminars and group work. Selected parts of the curriculumwill be discussed in lectures and students are responsible for reviewing the whole curriculum. Students are expected to influence the content ofdiscussions and workshops by contributing with their own suggestions and comments.

    Students will write an individual thesis on the basis of empirical material derived from the social work field or a theoretical thesis related to socialwork. In the course of an eight week project period, students will undertake a study that shall be presented as a written work. The thesis shallaccount for the academic field, the question addressed, the method used, an analysis and conclusions.

    Tutoring is given both individually and in groups. The themes and questions addressed in the thesis are prepared in cooperation with the coursesupervisor and the tutor, and must be relevant to social work.
