SPAV's Department of Planning envisages the advancement of establishedexpertise and the creation of new frontiers in the field of 'Development andPlanning' by offering education and training, cutting-edge research and technicalconsultancy in the region. Since 2008 the Planning Department has been active inshaping young minds through quality education to make them technologicallytrained, socially responsible and ethical practitioners in the planning sector.Bachelor and Master's degree students are equipped with state-of-the-artinstruments, techniques and hypotheses to research, design and plan cities andregions in aspects of infrastructure , transportation, social services, land useplanning, housing, informal sector, ecology, and governance. The Departmentstarted the four-year Bachelor of Planning program in 2008 and extended its scopeby launching the two-year Masters of Planning program with specializations of'Environmental Planning and Management' and 'Urban and Regional Planning,'respectively, in 2013 and 2014.Since 2012, the department has also had a graduate research programme.Planning students are exposed to proficient expertise in planning through a full-time faculty and distinguished visiting faculty. The Department's Alumni worksuccessfully with government and private sector as professional planners acrossIndia and the world.
Bachelor of Planning is a four year full time Bachelors degree programme inPlanning offered by Department of Planning, SPAV, which teaches students aboutthe fundamental aspects and specialised techniques of spatial planning in acomprehensive manner that ranges from neighbourhood to regional planning. Thecurriculum is designed to impart basic skills related to settlement patterns, growthand design, that would help students later in their careers to serve in variousprofessional capacities in planning, development and management agencies in thepublic sector as well as private consultancy organizations. The aim of theprogramme is multi-disciplinary in nature - drawing from the field of city planning,blending the knowledge from architecture, engineering, geography, economics,sociology, management, law, etc.The course structure and syllabus of the B.Plan programme is designed incoherence with the Model Curriculum for B.Plan, All India Council for TechnicalEducation, 2008. B.Plan programme is divided into eight semesters where eachsemester has a combination of planning studio, lab-based subjects and theorycourses. The first four semesters focus on core theories and techniques inplanning, while the final four semesters help develop advanced skill sets, withdomain specialisations.

The students of Bachelor of Planning at School of Planning and Architecture Vijayawada are potentialProfessional. During the course the students develop detailed knowledge on settlement patterns and growth,Planning and design.
Bachelor of Planning is a four-year full-time degree in which the students work on real time problems,issues and development of cities and regions as their Planning Studio projects (practical’s / lab-orienteddesign exercises). The curriculum strategically incorporates the field of city planning and blending theknowledge from architecture, engineering, geography, economics, sociology, environment, management,governance, etc which teaches students about the fundamental aspects and specialized techniques ofspatial planning that ranges from designing residential neighborhoods, preparing area development plans ata micro level, master plan for towns and cities and Integrated regional plans.
The students undertake mandatory Internship after completion of the end semester exams of 2nd and3rd year which in turn expose them to do hands on experience not only the technical knowledge but alsolearn the work environment in government, corporate and NGO sectors in India and abroad. Towards theSeventh semesters they have learnt as individuals and groups developing students as an independentthinker and also developing leadership qualities while working in teams. Final year (IVth Year VIII Semester)the students do an independent dissertation work related to the topics of interest with selecting appropriatesettlements as case study.
The students also engage in various cultural and sports activities and competitions in house as well asacross SPAs and other planning institutions towards building non academic skills as literary, dance, music,craft, art, paintings, community outreach activities through NSS etc. Students also take part in sponsoredand research projects of the faculty and institutions at the local, regional, national and international reputes.
Overall, the students of Bachelors in Planning are exposed to proficient planning expertise through full-time faculty and distinguished and reputed visiting faculty from across the country and abroad. The Alumniof SPAV B.Planners have been successfully working across India and the world as professional and I hopethis batch will be just as successful as their predecessors.
