In our effort to always maintain the highest standards of safety we have updated and improved our SMS (Safety Management System). This entailed reviewing and improving safety management components of:
• Safety Policy – A system of policies and procedures in which the core values of BAC Aviation are represented to reach our safety goals.
• Safety Risk Management – A custom designed risk management system that describes the companyʼs operational processes across department and organizational boundaries, identifies key hazards and measures them, methodically assesses risk, and implements controls to mitigate risk.
• Safety Assurance – Various policies, process measures, assessments and controls have been put in place to incorporate regular data collection, and analysis, assessment and management review to assure safety goals are being achieved.
• Safety Promotion – BAC Aviation continually promotes, train and communicate safety as a core value with implements practices that support a sound safety culture.

Operations: Unlimited Dusi 2011

BAC Aviation was proud to be a part of this year’s Dusi
Canoe Marathon 2011. We provided 8 helicopters to
cover various operational tasks from Safety and
Security, Filming, Media, VIP transfers and Logistical
Support.
Wednesday afternoon saw us reposition 4 helicopters to
Camps Drift for the early morning start. The filming
helicopter with ATV Productions was the first to get
airborne for the start at 5:50am. The Media and Support
helicopters lifted closely behind. The first days paddling
went without incident and finished with Birkett in the
lead.
The Friday morning saw off the paddlers from the Dusi
2
Bridge to Inanda dam. A VIP and Sponsor hot spot was
found at Hippo Rock on the second day of the Dusi.
Helicopters transferred supplies and pax for The
Unlimited and 100 Plus, reaching almost 50, to this
inaccessible area for a vantage point rarely seen by the
public.
Just above Hippo Rock at Ntombei rapid, the Support
Helicopter lifted out a canoeist who had suffered a near
drowning and transported him back to Inanda Dam for
medical assistance. After making sure the last paddlers
were safely on their way home the crew settled down at
Inanda Dam for the evening.

BAC Aviation Richards Bay Office has
recently been providing KZN Wildlife
and Private Farmers in the Umfolozi/
Hluhluwe areas with Rhino Poaching
response operations.
Due to the dramatic increase in Rhino
poaching last year (an increase of 70%)
BAC has teamed up different media
houses to help raise awareness of this
exciting new approach to combat
poaching activities.
By having a dedicated helicopter RH44
being able to respond to any poaching
threat and patrol hot spots, the initiative
is expected to be a powerful addition to
current anti poaching strategies.

Early on the final day the Support
Helicopter left to check the hyacinth
and the effect it would have on
portages during the race. The ability of
the Jetranger to create downwash to
break up the dead weed in sections
allowed the river to open up. This
meant only one portage was needed
and in the end one of the closest
finishes in its long history resulted.
Many Thanks are extended to Mike
Coetzer and Cameron McKenzie of the
Dusi Committee, Ray De Vries, Matt

and Grant from Urban Cowboys,
The Unlimited, the 100 Plus crew
5
and to all the pilots and ground crew.

Many Thanks to Clynt Edgar for all his hard work in building and maintaining the site.
BAC Aviation has joined forces with Gateway and KZN Tourism in launching exciting new packages and destinations in the greater KwaZulu Natal area. With KwaZulu Natal becoming an increasingly attractive destination, demand is growing for alternative means of transport to access the more remote areas.
This offers a convenient avenue for tourists and businessmen that wish to access BACʼs helicopter charter services.
A successful period over the festive season introduced a solid partnership between Gateway and BAC. Many Thanks to Mercedes Benz Umhlanga for the sponsored vehicle over this period and continued support from our friends in the surrounding areas.
There are three guys in a helicopter and they each get to choose what they want to throw out. The first guy chooses an apple. So he takes an apple and throws it out. The second guy chooses a brick. So he takes a brick and throws it out. The third guy chooses a grenade. So he pulls the pin and throws it out. They land a while later and are walking along when they find a man rubbing his head. They ask, " What happened to you?" He answers, " An apple hit me on the head."
They're walking along again and find a man lying unconscious on the ground. They ask the cop, " What happened to him?" He answers, " A brick hit him on the head." They're walking again, when they find a man laughing hysterically. They ask, " What happened to you?" He answers, " I farted and the house blew up behind me!"
