Through out history many great people lived in the Mesopotamian area .It is interesting and inspiring to study their great civilizations. The Babylonians were the most impressive people who lived in Mesopotamia. They have left remarkable achievements behind them including the great Hanging Gardens and have excelled in art, technology, mathematics and astrology. The hanging gardens were the most impressive landscape architecture in Babylonia. .They were built. In the middle of the desert of mesopotamia and were a testimony to their ability to create an oasis of beauty in the middle of the desert, against the laws of nature. It was built by Nebuchadnezzar II, to make his wife Amytis happy because she didn’t like the Babylonian desert. Astrology and astronomy was also an important achievement for Babylonia. They invented the zodiac science, the study of the moon, sun and other planets. They believed that their motion and positioning affect humans and reading and understanding it helps humans. Mathematics was another area where they contributed. The Babylonian system of mathematics was a base 60 numeral system. From this we derived the modern day usage of 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, and 360 (60 x 6) degrees in a circle. They determined the square root of two correctly to seven places. Their knowledge of the Pythagorean Theorem helped shape current modern mathematics. Babylonian contribution to civilization is remarkable considering where they lived.
