This allows all the nasty AC power stuff to move to the backline with the amp, and out from underfoot.

PedalSnake replaces the cable mess between your pedals and amp with one, flexible snake—carrying guitar signals, low-voltage power, footswitch signals, MIDI, and more —with UltraFast setup and an UltraCool look. A special, patented wiring scheme keeps things clean and quiet.
Channel Use Base Snake have two uses: 1) Bare channels can be MIDI lines, or 2) Pigtails plug into a channel to make GLines or PLines, and swap easily when rigs change.
The Basic Idea PedalSnake’s patented wiring scheme carries analog audio and low voltage power side-by-side
with no noise or crosstalk.

Dual Lines save PedalSnake channels by providing 2 lines from one Base Snake channel. Use Dual GLines (RS2) for “wireless-out-to-pedals-and-back-to-amp”, or for FX Loop Send and Return. Test other uses for hum. See the simple “Hum Test” to the right.Dual PLines (MF2, MF2-I, MM2-I) make 2 “DC” PLines from one channel—such as one 9V and one 18V PLine. Use two isolated DC power supplies. Use Dual PLines on a single Audio Chain. Test other uses for hum. See the simple “Hum Test” on the next page.
Pigtails plug into Base Snake channels to make 1/4” GLines and 2.1mm PLines, with space saving right angles and many other smart features for guitar pedal rigs.
PLines are “PowerLines” that carry low voltage power from power supplies (now back at the amp) out to pedals at the front of the stage.A PLine is needed for each pedal–voltage (most pedals are 9VDC but not all).

Base Snakes 4 or 7 channels, 18 or 24 feet. Complex rigs need more channels (and lines). Longer lengths allow more distance between your pedals and amp. See “Base Snake Channel Types” on the next page.

Base Snake Channel Types PedalSnake has 3 types of channels, all with 5pin DIN plugs. They all accept GLine and PLine Pigtails--some Pigtails depend upon the channel-type to have full function. Bare channels support various MIDI types when no Pigtails are plugged in. The 3 channel types, and their MIDI use, are:3-wire 5pinDIN/3-wires. MIDI signal only (no phantom power).5-wire 5pinDIN/5-wires, MIDI signal and phantom power.7-wire 7pinDIN/7-wires (custom only), MIDI In, Out, and phantom power.
Avoid Hum with This Simple TestHum is a low frequency tone (60Hz) that can creep into some audio systems. It is rare, but some guitar rigs will hum if ground loops are introduced. The most common cause of this is Power Chains. We can’t live without Power Chains, but in some rigs, care should be taken. The following test may help.
HUM TEST If you have only 1 audio chain of pedals that connect to the amp input, you don’t need this test. NEEDED 2 pedals, 2 power supplies (or batteries), 1 guitar, 4 guitar cords—2 with metal plugs, and a short piece of wire to “short” with.PROCEDURE
Amp is off to start with. Power pedals with separate supplies (or batteries). 1st PEDAL. Connect input to guitar, output to amp’s main input. Make sure one of the 2 cords has metal plugs.Turn the guitar volume off. Connect the 2nd pedal to the other “rig point” you wish to test—like the amp’s FX loop, or a 2nd amp. Make sure one cord has a metal plug. Turn the amp on. Turn the volume up loud enough to begin hearing some noise. Note the level of any hum.Using the piece of wire, short the metal shell of a 1/4” plug on one pedal to a metal plug on the other pedal. Compare the hum levels when shorted and not shorted.

Power Chain Several pedals powered from one supply, usually thru a Daisy Chain cable (like
Daisy4S), or a “power patchbay” on a pedal board. A Power Chain connects all the grounds of any AC devices the pedals connect to. This can cause
audible hum in some rigs. See the “Hum Test” below.
HelpfulTerms Audio Chain A “chain” of guitar cords feeding signal thru one pedal, or a string of pedals in series. The last pedal output connects to an amp (or some AC-grounded device.
to an AC-grounded device
Low Current Pedals have power supplies rated between 325 and 775mA.
A Single PLine will power 3-5•
9V Battery Pedals draw very little current. 20 or more can be Power-chained using 1 PLine and 1 SnakePOWER 500mA supply.
High Current Pedals have power supplies rated at 1660 mA or more.
Use a MF1-H Hi-Current PLine to power each one.
•
Solution If the short in Step 6 causes more hum, use: 1) A separate isolated supply for a pedal (or audio chain) connecting to each point—like you had prior to Step 6, and 2) Two Single PLines (MF1 or MM1), or an isolated Dual PLine (MM2-I or MF2-I) on a white MIDI5 channel. Similarly, if 6 caused hum, don’t “cross” audio chains with a Dual PLine (MF2). Use 2 supplies, 2 Single PLines, and 2 Power Chains. NOTE Also use caution if sharing a Dual GLine between a footswitch line and a guitar audio line. This may cause hum.
