In today’s Gospel, Jesus asks the rich young man

to give away all that he has in order to have

treasure in heaven. But he is unable to free

himself from his possessions, and so he goes

sadly away. Does what I own keep me

from following Jesus?

Next Door Books for Kids Evan Bruss, member of Boy Scout Troop 7, is working on his Eagle

Scout service project. He is asking for donations of new or gently

used children’s books which will be given to the Next Door

Foundation’s Books for Kids Program. A collection bin will be in the

gathering area through October 18. If you have questions or want

more information, contact Evan at 414-365-3369 or [email protected].

Thank you from St. Vincent de Paul Our St. Vincent de Paul Society would like to thank you for your

generosity throughout the year, from our Sharing Tree at Christmas

to donations for our food pantry. It is all so appreciated by those

whose funds do not always last the whole month. A huge thank you

to all of the anonymous givers who put money in our donation boxes

in the gathering area and in the collection baskets, and a special

thank you for donating to our recent Walk for the Poor. Those funds

are used for our meal programs in Milwaukee’s poorest

neighborhoods. We sincerely thank you for your amazing generosity.

Northwest Catholic School News Northwest Catholic School in the spotlight ~

NWCS took center stage in a video that was

recently presented by the Charles E. Kubly Foundation. This

Foundation seeks to better the lives of those affected by depression

by increasing public awareness of the disease and its devastating

effects, eliminating the stigma associated with it, supporting suicide

prevention programs, and promoting improved access to quality

mental health resources within communities.

Each year, the Kubly Foundation spotlights one project from the

past year that they have funded. The project they chose to spotlight

this year was created and implemented at NWCS last year through

Mount Mary University's Department of Psychology. The goal of the

project was to deploy tools to help students coping with stress,

anxiety, and anger. We know children who have experienced trauma

and early childhood disruption are at higher risk for depression and

struggles in school.

A video that highlights our work with Mount Mary University was

recently viewed by hundreds of people at the Kubly Foundation’s

annual Beyond the Blues event. NWCS is proud to partner with

Mount Mary University again this year, and most importantly, we

strive to continue to build a strong school community that meets the

needs of all of our students. We encourage you to watch the video by

visiting www.charleskublyfoundation.org. On the homepage you

will find a link to the video “Foundation Mission.”

Learn about St. Teresa of Avila Come to St. Catherine of Alexandria on October 12

at 6:30PM for a presentation about St. Teresa of

Avila. She was a mystic, teacher, author, poet, and

Doctor of the Church. She was an expert on prayer

and had a keen ability to probe the mystery of God’s

workings in the soul.

2016 Calendar Raffle Our 2016 calendar raffle is ready to go! They make

great stocking stuffers or Christmas gifts. Calendars

are available in the parish office, and watch for them

to be sold after Masses and during other parish

events. Please return your completed ticket stubs

with $20 per entry in an envelope marked “Calendar

Raffle.” (Ticket stubs will not be accepted without

than December 30. A winning ticket will be picked

each day. There will be 364 chances to win $20 and

two chances to win $100. Winning names will be

re-entered for additional chances to win.

Parish Formation Day follow-up meeting On Wednesday, October 21, there will be a meeting at 6:30PM in the

cafeteria to discuss what was learned at our Parish Formation Day.

We will discuss how our parish community can use the tools we

were given at the workshop to better serve our community.
