harkens back to 1924, when Salinas boasted the highest per-capita income in the Untied States. Its three original vaults, survivors

Steinbeck HouseBirthplace of Salinas’ most
famous son, John Steinbeck,this landmark is a popular
luncheon spot.
Chinatown International District
Once the second largest Chinatown west of the Mississippi, this histoic area boasts the beautiful Buddist Temple with the oldest temple bell, and the Chinese
Community Center. Steinbeckwrote of this area in
East of Eden.
Masonic HallOnce the home of Steinbeck’s father’s
failed feed store venture, the building is home to a popular local coffeehouse
that features fresh roasted beansevery week: the Cherry Bean.
