BEFA Certification

Eligibility Self-Assessment Interview BEFA

Certification

Successful candidates are granted a BEFA Certificate which will serve as a recommendation for

recognition as an equivalent to successful completion of the Canadian Education, Experience, and

Examination Standards that are in place for licensure by a provincial or territorial licensing body.

With the BEFA Certificate, successful candidates can apply for licensure to the Provincial/Territorial

Association they have chosen to register with.

architectural degree

at least seven years of post-registration/licensure experience in architecture within the last

ten years

six months of relevant Canadian architectural work experience by the time of the assessment

interview This work experience cannot be gained more than three years before the date

scheduled for the assessment interview.

practiced as a licensed/registered architect in a foreign jurisdiction

Eligibility Criteria

This experience must be gained under the personal supervision and direction of a

registered/licensed architect within the Canadian province or territory in which you intend to

be licensed/registered

submit eligibility fee along with on-line application enclosing the following documents:

• proof of either licensure/registration in a jurisdiction outside Canada

mail or courier certified true copies of proof of architectural education and proof of either

licensure/registration in a jurisdiction outside Canada

• proof of architectural education

If the documents listed above are not in English or French, a certified true copy of an

official translation for each document is also required.

Self-Assessment Step

You must include at least one Canadian project in the self-assessment step to

demonstrate that you meet the Canadian experience requirements.
