Year 6 Surprise Gift

Year 6 were gifted with their ‘Year 6 shirt’, from the school. Our Year 6 students have shown great resilience this year, during what has not been a ‘normal’ Year 6. Students were very excited and eager to start wearing these shirts as soon as they received them! They look awesome!

A great term of debating and public speaking

This year, with our debating teams unable to travel, their debates are taking place through Zoom meetings. Our Year 11 team (Jack Wasson, Maxx Bigg, Tara Broso and Anusha Bajracharya) were up against a team from Tumut High, our Year 9/10 team (Nelson Sargent, Vibrant Kennedy, Anusha Bajracharya and Tara Broso) were against a team from Bass High (in South-West Sydney) and the 5/6 team (Kaiya Royds, Layla Stuart, Noah Wilson and Grace Tybell) were against a team from Figtree Heights Public (in Wollongong). Our teams won all three debates. It was the 5/6s second win (with no losses this year, so far). Our students are thinking and expressing their thoughts with increasing skill and effectiveness.

Layla Stuart has reached the regional final of the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition. Her final will take place on Friday 23 October (Week 2) via Zoom. Our other students, Grace Tybell, Ruby Lewis and Eden Wimborne also showed wonderful effort in working on their speeches and represented the school very well.

Our Year 11 debating team (Anusha Bajracharya, Tara Broso, Jack Wasson and Maxx Bigg) were fantastic in defeating a team from Asquith Girls High and have now reached the 4th round of their competition, which makes them one win away from the state quarter finals. This is a fine achievement, particularly for a team that includes a student from Year 8 and from Year 10 when their opposition teams are consistently made up of Year 11 students.

Welcome Mr D’Anella

Hello, Braidwood Central School, Parents and Community,

Thank you so much for welcoming me into your school and community. I’m very excited to be at Braidwood Central School and feel very privileged that I have been entrusted with the education and care of 2/3S.

As with any new teacher arriving at a school, it can be a daunting experience for students. Students in 2/3S have already demonstrated exceptional values that are no different to mine, and they have been most welcoming, a credit to the wonderful teaching staff and executive team at the school.

My profession in teaching is varied, and I have taught across all stages and classes, gifted and talented students, students with varying physical and mental capabilities and disabilities, and Refugee students. I have had many roles in schools including Choir Coordinator, Music Festival Coordinator, Spring Fair Coordinator, PSSA Coordinator, Robotics Coordinator, Year 6 Mentor in their transition to high school and Supervisor of Early Career Teachers just to name a few. My previous schools were not just in metropolitan Sydney, but south to Wollongong and to the Far West Region of NSW.

I look forward to a productive Term 4, and I am honoured to be a part of the educational growth and development of the students in 2/3S.

I thank you once again for welcoming me into your community and I look forward to making contact with 2/3S parents.

Kind regards

Don D’Anella

Welcome Mr Eggelton

Hi. I’m Mr Eggelton and I’m thrilled to be here, teaching Years 3 and 4 at Braidwood Central School.

I grew up in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas and graduated with a double degree, Bachelor of Teaching (Primary)/Bachelor of Arts (Social Sciences) from The University of Newcastle in 2001.

I began my teaching career as a casual/relief teacher in and around the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and Maitland regions until receiving a permanent position on the North Shore of Sydney in 2006. In 2012, I transferred to a school located in the inner west of Sydney before returning to another school in the North Shore region in 2017.

I am looking forward to teaching at Braidwood Central School and hope to learn a great deal professionally through the experiences offered in this unique and beautiful location. Mr Eggelton joins the staff in a permanent capacity.

Horticultural Learning Space

Friday 25th Sep was an exciting day with work beginning on our new horticultural learning space. Once completed the building will house a nursery as well as new teaching/learning spaces for agricultural and horticultural programs.

A huge thank you to the Bendigo Braidwood and Districts Community Bank Branch who generously donated $40,000 (through the BCS P&C) towards the project. We would not have been able to undertake this project without their ongoing support.

2021 Secondary School Leaders

Braidwood Central School seeks to provide quality education for all students. The school places great importance on the development of students’ self-esteem, self-discipline, and responsible direction. Our school provides an environment where students can strive for their personal best, always, to become self-directed, lifelong learners.

Students elected to these positions are always expected to be model school citizens upholding the school values, whether at school, or participating in excursions, or cultural or sporting events.

This year our students nominated for Captain and Vice Captains followed our nomination process by completing a nomination form, being interviewed by our Leadership Teacher Ms Maye and were videoed completing their leadership speech in front of our Executive team.

We would like to welcome our four new secondary leaders.

• Darcy Lyons and Charlie Campbell – School Captains

• Teileigha Lukey and Lily Coningham – Vice Captains

• Zoe Cargill and Tess Gurling – Prefects

Congratulations to all our school leaders.

Alternative Study Pathways

Amy Murphy is the first ever School Based Apprentice for Southern Area Health. School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships allow year 10, 11 and 12 high school students to commence an apprenticeship or complete a traineeship while still at school. Amy did her training at Braidwood Hospital as a paid employee. During this time, she completed a Certificate III in Health Services online as 2 units of her HSC. Amy has already been offered a place at 3 different Universities to study a Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery in 2021.

Amy’s fantastic result is an example of the alternative study pathways available to students.

Congratulations Amy.

2021 school travel applications are now open

To assist with any enquiry’s schools may receive about student travel applications, Transport NSW have provided some information below. Information can also be found at https://transportnsw.info/travel-info/using-public-

transport/school-travel Applications for student travel in 2021 opened on Monday 12 October 2020. Students who have changed school/campus, changed address, repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should re-apply or update their details. Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.

Primary Area

We are now in Term 4 and would like to remind all students in primary to be “sun safe”. All students are asked to bring their school bucket hat to wear while they are in the playground. Hats are available from the uniform shop for $15.00. Payments can be made via our website ‘pop’ payments or via credit card over the phone. This is the process for all uniform purchases.

We also ask that all students bring a drink bottle for filling water bottles from bubblers rather than using the bubbler directly.
