Today, companies must find their way in an increasingly complex economy. Globalisation hasextended markets far beyond national borders and technology keeps global commerce moving24 hours a day. Some products and services are become increasingly complex, while others arebecoming obsolete. Consumers demand prompt and customised service at the best price.Businesses require complex networks of distribution. These are just some examples of theissues you will address as a BBA student.

The BBA programme is taught in English and has a strong international focus. It is both hands-onand academic. It follows a ‘practice-as-orientation’ and ‘science-as-foundation’ approach. It also equips you with the academic skills you need to complete assignments and research and write your bachelor's (in the BBA) and master's (in the MBA) thesis. You will develop bothyour analytical skills and your academic and professional communication skills. You will learn to think critically and to present your findings in a concrete and concise manner.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Entrepreneurial learning: management projects

Business orientation is the leitmotiv in the programme, but it is particularly and explicitlynoticeable in the business projects. There is , in which you develop specific skills that are important to business professionals: entrepreneurship, interdisciplinary thinking, management skills (e.g. teamwork, meeting skills, negotiating, and professional reporting), languages and, of course, business contents and academicskills. The management projects are ideal opportunities to start working on your career while completing your studies.

n Management Project I: Social profit project

As a first-year student, you immediately discover and develop your entrepreneurial skills, project management and interview skills, team spirit and language skills. In the socialprofit project, you are part of a team that carries out a project to support a good cause.A coach keeps you on the right track with the help of workshops and feedback sessions.

n Management Project II: Business Project: Company Screening & Management Game

You team up with other students to work on an integrated business project in the secondyear of the programme. You select a key enterprise, audit it financially, analyse theindustry it operates in, and study its internal organisation. Obviously, this also means thatyou have to explore various aspects of the company on-site. To round off, you write anacademic paper and give a presentation on the project. You also play the management gamewhich simulates a business context, with you squarely in the driver’s seat. Your teammanages a company and competes with two or three enterprises in the same sector.Every team member is assigned a position in the executive committee and takes responsibilityfor a department. You make all important decisions as a team – selling price, marketingbudget, staff, production, financing – taking economic forecasts into account in the faceof unexpected events.

n Bachelor thesis

For students enrolled in the third year of the programme, you complete an end work inthe form of a bachelor thesis.

Bachelor’s programme

Learning Tracks

The BBA is organised in learning tracks: Strategy & Business Sciences, Economics &International Business, Research & Methods and Human Behaviour, Law & Society. These four tracks continue throughout the three bachelor years gradually becoming morespecialised. Along these tracks you learn the basics of business science, economics andinternational business. You are coached in developing competences you need in real-lifebusiness environments. You acquire insight into the principles of strategy, managementand entrepreneurship.

n Strategy & Business Sciences

Come up with a new product? Start up your own company? Where do you start? You develop knowledge and skills on entrepreneurship, marketing managementand human resources management.

n Economics & International Business

Globalisation forces managers and policy makers to make the right decisions quicklynowadays in addition to which they have to formulate an answer to many challengesand opportunities. Making the right decisions depends on a thorough knowledge of howthe economy works. Therefore it is very important that you understand these economicsystems. You will focus on the European and global context where companies are active. That’s why you also need to develop your language and communication skills

n Research & Methods

In this learning track it is not the knowledge that is at the centre, it is the method to get tothe knowledge: how do you find reliable answers to the questions of a company? Youlearn to use the correct research methods and interpret the results with a critical mind.

n Human Behaviour, Law & Society

Companies and organisations are part of a bigger world. You will learn how the economyis embedded into the society as a whole. You will also learn that people are the mostimportant asset of a company.

Mathematics: an important element of the BBA

Today’s business economists often use mathematical models to describe reality in a logical way.The language of mathematics provides powerful tools to describe and explore such models. By learning this language you develop skills in recognising structure, systematic problem-solving,and checking the plausibility of an obtained result. You will also refine your knowledge ofmathematics in courses like statistics, economics, financial algebra, and econometrics.

We offer a range of tools to help you develop your mathematical skills.

Brushing up course and assessment test

We organise a brushing up course in the run-up to the beginning of the academic year. The one-week course reviews a number of important topics and concludes with an assessmenttest. After this test you receive personal feedback and advice on which mathematics track to take.Information on the brushing up course can be found on our website including dates for thecourse and registration.

For students from a country inside the Council of Europe (see: www.coe.int), the assessmenttest is obligatory, however, the brushing up course is recommended preparation. For studentsfrom a country outside the Council of Europe, it is obligatory to take a SAT Reasoning Math test(or ACT Math test) prior to enrollment. n If your SAT result is at least 550 (or your ACT result is at least 23), you are eligible to start

the standard track. The assessment is optional but recommended. n If your SAT result is between 500 and 550 (or your ACT result is between 21 and 23),

you are eligible to start the BBA programme on the condition that you attend the brushingup course and complete the assessment.

Please consult our website for a detailed description of the mathematics topics you areexpected to have covered in secondary school. On our website, we provide an online testyou can take to see if your level of mathematics is sufficient.

8 feb.kuleuven.be/eng/brussels/math

Mathematics: standard or slow track

Different tracks give you the opportunity to study at your own pace. The consists of two hours of mathematics per week, plus an optional two-hour tutorial everysecond week where supplementary exercises will be covered. The offers you thepossibility of supplementing your schedule with extra classes in mathematics. This enablesyou to be well prepared for the exams. The standard and slow tracks cover the same studymaterials and students in both groups will take the same exam.
