RED: RESPECT EMPATHY DETERMINATION

Friday 10th August, 2018

We started assembly today by taking inspiration from the Disney animated movie, ‘Zootopia’.

‘Commitment and determination turns dreams into reality’ will become a recurring theme. Students

have been encouraged to commit to the following in the pursuit of personal best:

Try everything, even though you could fail

Don’t give up or give in

No one learns without getting it wrong

Albert Einstein once said ‘It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer.’ Our

teachers are supporting students to focus on these important personal traits. I encourage parents to

discuss this at home.

This year, two of our teachers, Mrs Dewar and Mr Jellie were accepted into The Primary Mathematic

Specialists (PMS) program designed to upskill primary teachers in government schools to become

Mathematic education specialists. The initiative aims to:

increase student engagement and achievement in mathematics,

increase teacher confidence and capability in teaching mathematics,

increase understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM),

have a sustainable impact in schools beyond the life of the initiative’s funding.

I am excited by the impact this program is already having. On Wednesday, our team were asked to

present at a Mathematics Forum about the innovative practices we are currently implementing to

improve student outcomes. I encourage all families to join us at our Choose Math Family Night on

Tuesday 21 August, have fun with your child and learn more about our programs.

Stay tuned - in the coming weeks the Junior School Council and Kelsey for Grade 1/2, are organising

initiatives to raise funds for our stricken farmers. These will be announced in the next Boneo Buzz.

Parent Opinion Survey

You will have received a COMPASS notification regarding our Parent Opinion Survey time extension.

This survey tool is vital in developing our schools strategic plan, enabling us to improve and enhance

our operations. We thank those families who have already completed the survey.

Please ensure you take a few moments to complete this anonymous survey. This is your opportunity

to voice what you love or wish to see improved at our school.

Library Resources

We have recently purchased new resources for our Library. It would be wonderful to have these titles

available to our students as soon as possible.

To enable this to happen we are asking for volunteers to assist with book covering.

All materials will be provided and the books may be taken home for covering.

If you are able to assist please contact the office.

Oaks Day

Planning is now underway for our annual Oaks Ladies Day at The National Golf Club. This is a major

fundraiser for our school with last year’s event raising in excess of $13,000.

We are holding a meeting for volunteers on Tuesday 14th August at 9am in the staffroom. This is a

wonderful opportunity to connect with our school community.

Please consider supporting this event which provides much needed funds to our school programs and

projects.

Art Smocks - Reminder

A reminder to parents that all students need to bring an art smock to school. Thanks to

those parents who have already provided their child/ren with a smock. We won’t be

hanging on to our old ones for much longer so we hope to see every child at Boneo bring

their own art smock as soon as possible.

Year 3 Somers Camp

This week, our Year 3 students headed off to Somers Camp with Mrs Becker, Mr Dalton, Mrs Pye,

Sheila and several parent volunteers for three days of action and adventure.

They say a picture tells a thousand words, and the photos we have been receiving from camp show

our happy campers are having an awesome time.

We look forward to hearing all of their news next week.

Tootgarook HPV Visit

This week, we had a visit from Tootgarook Primary School’s HPV team. Our Year 5 and 6 students

were given an opportunity to road test the vehicles and chat about what this program involves.

We thank our friends from Tootgarook for sharing their knowledge with our students and staff.
