CROSSING THE CAUCASUS Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia
ACCOMPANIED BY
DR. LAURENCE MICHALAK
SEPTEMBER 8 - 23, 2019
Located at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East and
Asia, are the countries of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia,
each bursting with exquisite beauty, refined art and heart-
warming hospitality. Begin in Baku which sits next to the lapis
blue Caspian Sea with its elegant medieval core and its
turreted stone buildings that contrast starkly with its modern
architectural wonders. Drive to the village of Sheki where
wooden and stone houses are strung on either side of a steep
mountain river, protecting a richly decorated khan’s palace.
Cross the border into Georgia and the Kakheti region, home
to the country’s greatest wines. Drive to Tbilisi where
countless armies battled to control this strategically located
city since the 5th century. Visit Tbilisi’s museum housing a
collection of superb gold jewelry from the age of Jason and
the Argonauts. Drive to Armenia, the first nation to adopt
Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD. In Yerevan stop at
the Matenadaran, one of the world’s largest repositories of
ancient manuscripts and explore the Khor Virap monastery
with its stunning views of Mt. Ararat in Turkey.
Cal lecturer’s participation cannot be guaranteed and is contingent on a minimum number of paying travelers.
