Our pensions dispute is at a crossroads. Our shortduration strikes have been solid and the political
campaigning by FBU members is having a real effect too.
But despite some chief officers’ admitting that strikeshave brought their brigades to a standstill and the possibility
of forcing a debate in parliament we haven’t done enough to
win a decent settlement from government. With her decision to put the 2015 pension scheme before
parliament, Penny Mordaunt has thrown down the gauntlet
– and in Buckinghamshire the executive council memberRicky Matthews remains sacked.
London, Merseyside, GMC and Essex FBU are amongthose who believe the presentstrategy must change.
We need a more hard-hitting
programme of strike action – astrategy that energises and
gives confidence to members.
To achieve this, we need toorganise. That’s why we have
called the meeting – to discuss
how to defend Ricky Matthews, win our fight on pensions and
build a fighting union.
