2 System Features This water purification system is designed for the production of Pure Water (ASTM Type 2) and Ultrapure Water (ASTM Type 1) out of drinking water from municipal supply. Pure Water will be produced by the Reverse-Osmosis (RO) with final desalination. This Pure Ware is stored in the tank. In the following polishing section Ultrapure Water is produced by the polishing module, UV-Oxidizing and sterile filter. It can be taken in small volumes, permanent output, or volume controlled output with the dispenser at the front side. If no water is supplied, it circulates inside the system to deliver Ultrapure Water in permanent best quality. Production rate of Pure Water into the tank is 10 lph with a conductivity under 2 µS/cm. Ultrapure Water can be drawn off with the dispenser up to 1.8 liter per minute with typical characteristics: Conductivity 0.055 µS/cm (resistivity 18.2 MΩ-cm), TOC value (total Organic carbon) under 1 ppb, bacteria less than 1 KbE/ml, Endotoxins less than 0.001 EU/ml, less then 1 particle per ml larger 0.1 µm and DNase, RNase and DNA removal. Currently recorded data and warning messages are shown on the system monitor. All components of the system are assembled in a designed plastic housing, which can be used either as bench device or wall mounted. The front door can easily be opened for module replacement. The system corresponds to the latest development and recent safety regulations. It can be installed and put into operation without the help of customer service. Front side Opened front side

2.2 Water Purification Process Following the flow chart the main components are explained: When the system is switched ON, the inlet valve (V3.1) opens and the RO pump (P3.1) starts. The inlet valve controls the water supply into the system. It closes and the pump stops, when the system is switched off or when the permeate tank is completely filled. The pump (P3.1) raises the pressure for the Reverse-Osmosis process. The pressure is indicated with a pressure gauge (PI3.1) and can be adjusted with a pressure control valve (PC3.2). The prefiltration cartridge (F3.1) is filled with activated carbon. It absorbs organic matters like free chlorine, insecticides, pesticides, and herbicides out of the water and removes particles larger than 5 microns. The RO module (F3.2) removes over 98% of the salt content and nearly all bacteria, viruses, heavy metal complexes, as well as organic molecules with a molecular weight higher than 300 Daltons from the water. The water including these components is called concentrate; the cleaned water is called permeate. The concentrate will partially be drained to the waste water disposal and partially flows back to the RO pump. The conductivity of the Permeate is monitored with a sensor (QIA Q1) and will be displayed on the system monitor with Q1. If the conductivity exceeds the adjusted set point, a warning message will be displayed, the RO valve (V3.3) will be closed and the Permeate will be drained. The deionization cartridge (F3.3) is filled with mixed-bed resin, which reduces still remaining salt contents of the Permeate. The conductivity of the deionized water is monitored with a sensor (QIA Q2) and will be displayed on the system monitor with Q2. If the conductivity exceeds the adjusted set point, a warning message will be displayed. Deionized Permeate (Pure Water ASTM Type 2) will be stored in the tank (T5.1) with submersible UV lamp (UV5.1). The UV lamp protects the Pure Water against germs formation by direct UV radiation. The production of Permeat into the tank will be regulated by level measurement (PT5.1).

If the tank is completely filled (100%), the production stops. If the level falls below 80%, the production restarts and the tank will be filled. If the level falls below 5%, the circulating pump (P4.1) stops to prevent it from running dry. The flow sensor (FT4.1) monitors the output rate of the dispenser in case of operation with volume controlled output. The circulation pump (P4.1) feeds the water into circulation and to the Dispenser (V4.3). Inside the UV-Oxidator (UV4.1) free hydroxyl radicals (OH-) are produced. These radicals oxidize remaining organic materials in the water. The Polisher cartridge (F4.2) is filled with high grade activated carbon and mixed bed resins in semiconductor quality. The activated carbon removes last particles and the oxidized byproducts. The resin extracts last remaining salt contents. After replacement the cartridge can be rinsed with the flushing program to wash out impurities. Then the solenoid valve (V4.6) opens. Note: If the dispenser is placed into the holder, this valve will be opened for a short moment in order to depressurize the system. The Ultra-filtration (UF) module (F4.4) removes smallest particles like endotoxins, pyrogens, viruses, RNase, DNase and DNA from the water. This module will be flushed automatically every 12 hours to wash out impurities. Then the solenoid valve (V4.5) opens. The conductivity of the Ultrapure Water is monitored with a sensor (QIA Q3) and will be displayed on the system monitor with Q3. If the conductivity exceeds the adjusted limit, a warning message will be displayed. The temperature is monitored with a sensor (TA4.1) and will be displayed on the system monitor with temp. If the temperature exceeds the adjusted set point, a warning message will be displayed. The sterile filter (F4.3) protects the system against germ formations by filtration of materials over 0.1 microns. The product water will be supplied with the dispenser (V4.3). For economical use the UV Oxidizer, UV lamp and circulation pump can be operated in interval mode with 2 separate intervals or day/ night operation.

7.7 Disinfection of the System

The disinfection of the system should be realized with SG disinfection syringes (Art.No. 2055). With these syringes a user-friendly disinfection is possible: 1) The syringes are filled with a suitable concentration of the disinfectant “OXIDES L” 2) Potential injuries or damages using the disinfectant are prevented 3) The disinfection procedure is easy with the programming-controlled step-by-step instruction For the disinfection a special disinfection tube needs to be connected instead of the left cartridge (polisher module). Then one syringe has to be fixed to the tube and the disinfectant only has to be injected. Finally the disinfectant has to be rinsed out. The disinfection procedure will be done by the step-by-step instruction: See chapter „Main Menu Maintenance Disinfection“
