QUICK SHEAR
The annual Axedale Quick Shear and Family Fun Day is being
held on Saturday 22nd of February. This a fantastic community
event that supports our school, Axedale Kinder, Axedale CFA
and the Axedale Community Hall. Volunteers are required to
help make the day a success. We would ask all families to look
at the Quick Shear volunteer information and assist where
possible. A couple of hours of volunteer time will greatly
assist in making the event a wonderful community success and
assist in making the fund raising activity a success. Volunteer
time sheets are available in the school office. Parents can fill
in a time in person or phone Katrina to book at suitable time.
A return slip is also included later in the newsletter.
This year’s Quick Shear and Family Fun Day raffle is certainly

large variety of goodies. Raffle tickets are included with

of which will be completed prior to lunch time. Photo Order envelopes are included with this week’s

passed onto Richard directly.
CLASSROOM READING
As part of the two hour literacy block each day, students in all classes will be reading from 9.00 – 9.30 am.
We encourage parents who have some time free at this time, to come in and listen to students reading one to
one. Our aim is to have every student read to an adult every day. This will start from Monday 10th February,
allowing us time to have book boxes at appropriate levels organised for all students. We would like parents to
hear one child at a time and work within the classrooms.
SCHOOL ARRIVAL
Staff are at school and on duty by 8.45am. Our early bus students are supervised from the time they arrive.
Students are supervised in the yard from 8.30. If there is a need to drop your child off before 8.30, please
speak to Corrina to ensure there is appropriate supervision.
Late arrival at school can be unsettling for your child or other classmates. Arriving at least 5/10 minutes
before 9.00am, will allow your child time to unpack their bag, have their reader ready, hand notes etc in and
be settled before the bell.
SCHOOL FEES
If payments for any aspect of schooling is proving a little tricky for your family at the moment, please contact
Corrina to discuss options.

The Prep students had their first rest day yesterday. Prep rest days will be on February 12th, 19th and 26th.

that need to be refrigerated.

ASTHMA MANAGEMENT PLAN
At the beginning of each school year we require an updated Asthma Management Plan for every student who
is diagnosed with asthma. Can these please be organised ASAP and the new plan dropped into the office so
we can update our records? Parents are also asked to check the expiry date on any medication which is kept
at school and supply the school with new Ventolin etc. if required. Parents are reminded that we require each
student to have their own spacer due to health regulations. Thanks for your assistance with this.
GYMNASTICS
Beginning on Friday 28th February, all P-6 students will be travelling to the Bendigo YMCA each Friday
afternoon to take part in a four week Gymnastics Program. The program will be conducted at Palmer’s Gym
in the Mundy St. YMCA building. There is a $50 charge to cover the cost of the bus and entry fees. For those
families who are yet to pay the excursion levy this can be paid weekly or as a lump sum prior to the program
beginning. More information in upcoming Newsletters.

STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE
We have been requested by DET to remind parents that the Department does not provide personal accident
insurance for students. Parents and guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for
injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs. Student
accident insurance policies are available from some commercial insurers. These cover a range of medical
expenses not covered by Medicare or private health insurance.
