See you soon in Budapest!
„WONDERFUL 2012 IPG SPRING
CONFERENCE BUDAPEST”
CONTRIBUTION FROM
STEVE WOOD, BARNES
ROFFE LLP:
A wonderful conference in
Budapest was organised by
our friends in that city (Eva
from Kalaszi Law Firm and
Akos and his colleagues from
Hajdu & Menyhei Attorneys
at Law). The event was made
all the more enjoyable by the
glorious Spring weather that
we enjoyed.
Most people arrived on Thurs-
day 3 May. A buffet-style
dinner had been organised at
the Marriott Hotel, which
provided an ideal opportunity
for old friendships to be re-
newed and for new friends to
be made. The golfers bored
anyone who would listen with
tales of great prowess at the
golf competition earlier that
day, which competition had
been well attended by both
male and female golfers. We
learned that Robert Christen-
sen from Jersey had been the
winner (not for the first time).
Stories were swapped long
into the night, at the bar.
The conference proper started
Friday morning at 9.15am.
After the usual introductory
speeches by Friedhelm and
the host firms, we were given
some snappy and interesting
presentations on business
practices in Hungary by Akos
and various of his colleagues.
After coffee, further short
presentations were given by
commercial organisations
who had built successful busi-
nesses in Hungary. After a
well earned lunch, various
prospective new members
made presentations about their
firms.

WONDERFUL 2012 IPG SPRING
CONFERENCE BUDAPEST
Continued from page 1:
It was notable that the standard
of these firms seemed general-
ly to be very high, which au-
gurs well for the future of the
IPG network. Thereafter, three
members made brief presenta-
tions about opportunities,
threats and challenges in their
jurisdictions. First up was
Michael Robinson of the New
Zealand law firm Turner Hop-
kins, who explained the oppor-
tunities presented by New Zea-
land’s well developed code of
Trust Law. Next, Bill Finnecy
from the USA accounting prac-
tice Malin Berquist gave dire
warnings about a new infor-
mation gathering initiative
started by the IRS, which could
have far reaching implications
for individuals and corpora-
tions who have dealings with
the IRS.
Finally, Friedhelm Gruber of
Senat gave an interesting case
study, which explained the
opportunities presented by the
recently enacted Dubai/Austria
double tax treaty.
The afternoon was rounded-off
by a speed networking session
supervised by Wim Lukaart
and Jens Langendorff. Mem-
bers who did not know each
other especially well paired up
and had roughly seven minutes
to swap details and information
about their respective firms.
This was undertaken enthusias-
tically and the session over-ran
quite considerably.
Members then met spouses on
the terrace for a much needed
drink. The spouses’ tour had
been well attended and a good
time had been had by all, sight-
seeing, lunching and shopping.
At 7.15pm, we walked to a
nearby acclaimed venue for the
Gala Dinner, which involved
good food, fine wine and lively
music by a local jazz band.
Thereafter, the young and
reckless went out clubbing,
whilst the older and wiser dele-
gates had a final drink at the
bar before retiring to bed for
much needed rest.
Saturday morning is reserved
for the members’ meeting.
The Management Committee
gave various information up-
dates, but the crucial business
related to the upcoming confer-
ences and the election of new
members. In the former re-
gard, Katarzyna Mailinowska
from Warsaw gave an informa-
tive and entertaining insight
into what her firm has planned
for the October 2012 confer-
ence in that city. We also re-
ceived brief details of plans for
conferences through to Octo-
ber 2015 – it’s good to plan
ahead! As regards new mem-
bers, a certain amount of de-
bate ensued, and whilst most
applicant firms were admitted
enthusiastically, one firm’s
application required further
consideration and, for the first
time, the IPG Advisory Com-
mittee was invoked to provide
guidance on certain matters.
An afternoon sightseeing and
at leisure was followed by a
Dinner Dance on the river boat
Europa, which was the perfect
setting to admire the sights of
the city and to say goodbye to
friends.
All in all, a wonderfully enjoy-
able conference. Roll on War-
saw!

TENNIS TOURNAMENT
Contribution from Tomáš
Bělina of Law Firm Belina &
Partners:
Originally, eight tennis players
were supposed to play divided
into two groups. Unfortunate-
ly, after non-participation of
three tennis players due to in-
juries or similar reasons, only
five players participated. Not-
withstanding the lower number
of players than expected, we
had a really great tennis tour-
nament. We played in Park
Teniszklub, which is one of the
oldest tennis clubs in Budapest
with more than 100 years his-
tory called Park Teniszklub.
The tennis club was really
lovely and just ten minutes
drive from the hotel. Great
choice of the host.
Due to the lower number of
players we played in one
group, therefore, everybody
had the chance to fight against
all remaining four players.
Every tennis player played
four games which meant play-
ing almost for four hours with-
out a break. The weather was
sunny and so hot, therefore, the
tennis tournament was really
back-breaking.
We had planned to play a final
between two players with the
most wins, however, due to the
long and hard battles in the
group, we did not manage to
play the final. After playing in
the group we had more players
with the same number of wins.
Therefore, without playing the
final, we did not have the real
winner of the tennis tourna-
ment. However, I believe that
every participant, who sur-
vived after four tennis battles
in the extremely hot weather,
was the winner of the tennis
tournament in Budapest. After
the tennis tournament we had a
very deserved cold and local
beer which tasted so good after
the back-breaking four tennis
battles.
I believe more tennis players
than in Budapest will play the
IPG Tennis Tournament in
Warsaw. I would like to invite
all to play the tennis tourna-
ment in Warsaw and to have
great fun as we had in Buda-
pest. Thank you to our host,
Akos and Adam, for organiz-
ing a nice tennis tournament in
a very lovely and old club in
the center of Budapest.

SPOUSE PROGRAM
Contribution from Angelika
Jäger of RWB Revisions und
Wirtschaftsberatungs
GmbH:
It couldn’t have been a better
day for a guided city tour. The
sky was clear of clouds and
lots of sunshine. Quite a crowd
of spouses gathered in the lob-
by of the Marriott Hotel. As
always, it was a pleasure to
meet well-known faces while
also adding some new ones.
At 10:00 o’ clock we started
our very special guided city
tour with an additional surprise
as indicated on the program. A
huge, blue bus with somewhat
“miniature aircraft stairs” wait-
ed in front of the hotel. There
was a little bit of astonishment
but talking and chatting with
each other everybody climbed
onto the bus (so: thanks to the
female genes, all worked out
for the organizing group). The
tour started, passing by the
imposing Parliament, the very
impressive St. Stephen’s Basil-
ica all the way to Dohány Syn-
agogue. We continued on the
main boulevard “Andrassy
Street”, passing by the magnif-
icent State Opera House all to
Heroe’s Square, the city’s larg-
est square. Unfortunately there
was no time to get off the bus
but the friendly guide informed
us very detailed about the city
and its visitor attractions.
The tour goes on and stops all
of a sudden on the banks of the
Danube. The surprise is lifted:
our bus is a SHIP! And before
everybody even understands
what this means, there is a
short briefing which reveals
the location of 9 emergency
exits and the life vests (not
needed after all), followed by a
change of drivers - bus driver
being swapped for a ship’s
captain - and off we go over a
70 m long ramp into the Dan-
ube. SPLASH!As everybody
can imagine, this exciting and
unique experience was being
naturally perceived in com-
plete silence and without any
emotions (with the exception
of “our” only male spouse, of
course) .

SPOUSE PROGRAM
Continued from page 3:
This started the second part of
our guided tour – on water.
Speeding at 30Km/h passing
by Margaret Island on the route
to the Parliament (even more
impressive seen from the wa-
ter), past the Fisherman’s Bas-
tion, the Royal Palace, drive
under the Chain bridge and
back (4km/h). We have been
an attraction for all passers-by
the banks (“like monkeys in
the zoo” quote Anne) and pic-
tures of us were taken several
times.
I highly recommend to google
the “riverrride.com”. There are
some awesome videos, alt-
hough none of us are shown on
them. - What an experience – .
Back on land we were talking
about our impressions in the
cozy “Blind-Rook-Restaurant.”
Later in the afternoon we took
the historical underground Line
No. 1, explored some luxury
shops and porcelain shops and
finally returned to our hotel.
The next morning - the weather
again being fabulous - we
walked altogether to the Great
City Market Hall. This beauti-
ful building, its exterior being
decorated with colorful glazed
clay, houses 180 different
stores and shops on 3 stories.
We explored the Hall in small-
er groups, buying souvenirs,
leather goods, furs, culinary
treats and: paprika!!
We were heading back to the
hotel for lunch and to our
wives and husbands in order to
mutually enjoy the afternoon
entertainment.
Once again I have enjoyed a
great weekend with wonderful
people in a beautiful city and a
well-organized spouse program
as well as everything else. The
River ride experience will re-
main unforgotten……
Thank you to the organization
group.

GOLF TOURNAMENT
Contribution from Robert
Christinsen of Volaw Trust
& Corporate Services Ltd.:
In keeping with a tradition that
has been maintained for many
years, the Budapest conference
was preceded by a golf tourna-
ment for conference delegates,
held on the Thursday morning.
The event was held at The Old
Lake Golf & Country Club,
over an hour's drive west from
Budapest, so in order to ensure
that the participants in the tour-
nament were able to return to
the hotel by mid-afternoon, the
coach taking us all there left
the hotel at 07.15. For some of
us who the previous evening
had enjoyed to the full the hos-
pitality that Budapest has to
offer, that early departure was
somewhat unwelcome; How-
ever, there was time on the
coach to catch-up on lost sleep.
Seventeen delegates took part
in the tournament: fourteen
men and three ladies. This was
the largest turnout for an IPG
golf tournament, reflecting the
growing popularity of the
event. It must be said that on
the way to the club, the ladies
on the whole seemed to be
more lively than some of the
men!

GOLF TOURNAMENT
Continued from page 4: With
its name derived from the near-
by Old Lake, the course pre-
sents golfers with the challenge
of numerous water hazards,
particularly in the first nine
holes. These water hazards
certainly helped to lighten the
load for some of the players in
the IPG tournament, who lost a
good number of balls in some
of them. Whilst not an espe-
cially long course, Old Lake
demands precision on all of its
holes; players need to avoid
not just the water but also the
trees and areas of rough grass
that line many of the fairways.
It presents a fair challenge,
however: it rewards players
who seek to manage their way
around the course, carefully
choosing which clubs to play
and playing within their game.
The greens were good, running
true if a little slow.
The tournament players were
divided into five groups, two
with four players and three
with three players, and all teed
off at the same time - a shotgun
start - from different holes.
This was intended to ensure
that all the players ended at
much the same time, though in
practice, because of different
numbers in the groups and with
some players more experienced
than others, this did not quite
go to plan. The format was a
Stableford competition, with
full allowance for handicap but
with a maximum handicap
allowance of 28 for men and
36 for ladies. This format is
believed to be the fairest, par-
ticularly for less experienced
players, especially when play-
ing on an unfamiliar course.
The weather was hot, about
28* C, and very humid, with
spots of rain late morning.
This sapped the strength of
some of the players and it must
be said that by the time all had
finished, around 2.00 PM, eve-
ryone was ready for a drink
and food.
The tournament was won by
your writer, Robert Christen-
sen, with 35 Stableford points;
joint runners-up, both with 30
Stableford points, were Jeffrey
Deane and Graham Wallace.
Mention should also be made
of Jakob Hotzl, who had the
lowest gross score but, adjust-
ed for his handicap of 6, had
28 Stableford points. Beatrix
Doppler, also from Hotzl &
Partner, had the best score of
the ladies, with 29 Stableford
points.

HUNGARY, A WORLD OF POTENTIALS
Contribution from Krisztina
Gyepes of Hajdu & Menyhei
Attorneys at Law
What else than our words can
lead you to Hungary? Might be
the memories looking on the
pictures you took during the
IPG conference in Budapest
with your auto exposure still
camera invented by József
Mihály in 1938? Might be a
telephone call from Hajdu &
Menyhei Attorneys at Law
rendered possible by Tivadar
Puskás in 1878? Might be the
time you were travelling
through this industrial transit
hub between Western and
Eastern Europe with AC loco-
motive invented by Kálmán
Kandó in 1902 or driving your
VW Beetle designed by Béla
Berényi and using an automat-
ic gearbox invented by László
Bíró?
Hungary is all over your life:
working with Microsoft Excel
created by Károly Simonyi in
1974 late night in the office,
while you have to change your
soft contact lenses invented by
István Győrffy in 1959 to
glasses; watching color televi-
sion with your children or lis-
tening to an old gramophone
with your husband or wife,
both developed by Károly Pé-
ter Goldmark; mentioning to
your clients Leonar3do, the
virtual reality kit developed by
Dániel Rátai being presented to
you on IPG Conference in Bu-
dapest.
You all have the possibility to
take part in the next invention
by doing business in Hungary,
an open and multicultural envi-
ronment having a highly edu-
cated workforce and keeping
priority to attract foreign inves-
tors by its constantly develop-
ing legal environment, which
had led companies, such as
British Telecom, Exxon Mobil,
Vodafone, Air France, GE,
Alcoa, Morgan Stanley, IBM,
Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Suzuki,
Opel, Huawei Technologies
and many others to locate facil-
ities in Hungary. Incentives
and grants are allocated on
case-by-case basis following
negotiations between the inves-
tor and the Government.
Foreigners may carry out con-
tinuous business activities in
Hungary if they establish a
Hungarian company or register
a branch or representative of-
fice or permanent establish-
ment (PE).
The industrial development
had an effect on company law
resulting in an electronic com-
pany registration process and
swiftly accessible company
data base. It is worth mention-
ing, that Hungarian legislator
intends to initiate electronic
judicial proceedings in the en-
tire civil law as of 1 April
2013. Recognizing the require-
ments of the 21st century's fast
-growing industry, Hungarian
labour law amendments - enter
into force on 1 July 2012 – are
in accordance with demands of
the market by adopting regula-
tion aiming flexibility of em-
ployment.
Due to the fact that Hungary is
a member of the EU, the Hun-
garian taxation system is har-
monized with EU directives
and provides a secure legal
framework for the conduct of
business. Hungary’s corporate
tax rate (10%) is competitive in
the region, and by having sev-
eral bilateral tax treaties on
double taxation avoidance
Hungary does not impose with-
holding tax on dividends, inter-
est or royalties.
Use your computer developed
by János Neumann in 1944 to
plug in the H&M pen drive
given to you during the IPG
Conference if you are interest-
ed in doing business in Hunga-
ry or take your ballpoint pen
invented by László Bíró and
write us, we would be delight-
ed to provide you with further
information about the country
of potentials.

MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR
Contribution from Jesse
Hartgring, Hoens & Souren
Keereweer Advocaten:
IPG is growing. Which is
good: the more members, the
more possibilities will present
themselves. But with a grow-
ing network it becomes
less and less easy to get to
know every one of the (board)
members. Or to share infor-
mation or suggestions. That is
exactly why a new position
has been created: the IPG
members' council.
The position was introduced in
the last general meeting in the
beautiful city of Budapest.
The main goal of the
new position is to provide for a
different level to communicate
on relevant IPG topics.
The members' council is not a
board member, but he does
have the possibility to put these
topics on the agenda.
It is a position on a different
level than the board, not in-
stead of the board. The board
will be available for members'
suggestions and ideas at all
times.
Thereto the members' council
will play an (pro-)active role
among the IPG members, to
learn about their ideas and sug-
gestions.
Already in Budapest several
members brought forward their
ideas and suggestions. Thanks
for that. I have been asked to
fulfil this position for the next
three years, so until 2015.

WEBSITE UPDATE
During the general meeting in
Budapest, the general ideas of
a new website were presented.
The look and feel requires a
change and the new website
should serve the three possible
types of users (potential mem-
bers, potential clients and ex-
isting members) better. We
will start with the most im-
portant features first and after
the launch of that part, the de-
velopment will continue. Also,
a second version of the website
will be developed designed for
mobile phones and tablets etc.
You may appreciate that little
effort is put in the old website
other than to keep the written
content up to date. However, if
you notice that something is
not correct, please feel free to
inform us or the secretariat.

BYE NEW YORK! HALLO FRANKFURT!
Contribution from Jens
Langendorff of Graham,

With 33 runners prepared to
run, the idea of the NY-
marathon with IPG was simply
good. However, when it be-
came clear what the exact ex-
penses would be the number of
participants reduced to a group
of 2, namely Norbert Jaeger of
RWB
WIRTSCHAFTSPRÜFUNGS-
GESELLSCHAFT MBH and
myself. Obtaining tickets for
such a small group appeared
not possible. We now have
found a better alternative in the
marathon of Frankfurt, Germa-
ny. This marathon will take
place on 28 October 2012. If
you are interested to join,
please reserve your ticket via
the Frankfurter Marathon web-
site. After that, please inform
us so that you can order your
original IPG running shirt!
Norbert and Angelika Jaeger
can help you with accommoda-
tion if you would like this.
Apparently, running seems
reason to collect money for a
good course so we concluded
why not to raise as much spon-
sorship money as we can as
well. Cancer is a terrible de-
cease that makes victims
amongst everyone's closest
friends and family members
and also ours . Therefore, our
good course will be the fight
against cancer.
So: feel free in joining us in
this marathon and in our fight
against cancer by your dona-
tion. More details to follow.

Newsletter distribution
Finally, we would ask that you pass this newsletter on to all members of your firm who could usefully be aware of IPG. If
you wish to supply the Secretariat with a general email address which acts as a distribution list for your firm then we would
encourage you to do so. This way each firm can keep their internal distribution list up to date and the Secretariat can send
newsletters, etc. to the widest possible number of people. If you have any questions please contact Carina Cabrera or Hia-
centa Leutert Klages.
If you would like to contribute to the newsletter or if you have any comments, please feel free contacting us via the secretari-
at.
