The Scholarship Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in making our 8th year of Vicky’s Fund Scholarships possible. Whether you are a family member, friend, teacher, donor, staff, or board member of Many Mansions, you contributed in providing 20 well-deserving individuals an opportunity to pursue their academic goals and fulfill their dreams of creating a better life for themselves and their families.

Because of your continued support and generosity, we were able to award the highest scholarship amounts to date in 2020 for a total of $32,500. This makes the overall amount awarded for the past eight years an impressive $142,850. Ninety-one individuals have participated in this scholarship program, yielding 152 scholarships. In fact, this year is the first time we have been able to award 4th year scholarships to four individuals. This significant growth could not have been achieved without your gift.

Due to current conditions this year, unfortunately, you were not able to celebrate in person with the 2020 awardees. Hopefully, we can resume our awards presentation ceremony and luncheon next year. For those who have been able to attend in the past, you witnessed the value of your support and were likely moved to tears hearing words of thanks from the grateful individuals who shared their personal stories.

It’s been an honor and privilege, over these eight years, to become acquainted with some extraordinary individuals and to discover the talents they

possess. We look forward to meeting the future candidates who will no doubt continue to impress us with their goals and aspirations.

On behalf of all the previous recipients, but most especially, on behalf of this year’s 20 individuals receiving their Vicky’s Fund Scholarship:

Vicky’s Fund (The Many Mansions’ Scholarship Fund) was established by long-term Many Mansions’ board member, Marty Garcia, in memory of his mother, Victoria Garcia.

Vicky, a child of immigrant parents from Spain, loved school and education, but because of economic and family circumstances, she only attained a 4th grade education.

Although she could never realize her dream of becoming a teacher, she fulfilled part of her goal by spending most of her life as an elementary school teacher’s aide. Her love of children and her bilingual skills enabled her to work well into her mid-80’s. This diminutive woman had an enormous impact on her students, primarily because she cared deeply for each child. She had the innate ability to build positive self-esteem regardless of the child’s disability or family situation.

The testimonials from adults who remembered the impact Vicky made on their lives during their formative years are the inspiration for this scholarship.

On behalf of Many Mansions congratulations to all of our Vicky’s Scholarship Fund award winners! You have done well, and we are very proud of you!

This is the 8th consecutive year the Vicky’s Scholarship Fund has awarded scholarships. This is all the more extraordinary given the difficult and challenging times we currently live in. Even in this time of COVID 19 and social distancing, we continue to look for ways we can support our resident youth in education.

Education has always played a central role in Many Mansions’ mission of providing ‘life enriching’ services for our residents. That is why we offer the Homework Club, an after-school educational program, to our resident youth. Over the years, we have expanded this support by providing school supplies, enrichment programs, field trips, and other school resources throughout the year. Additionally, Camp Many Mansions has been a free summer camp program that challenges and entertains our youth during those long summer months.

The Vicky’s Scholarship Fund was the next important step in our educational support. Continued education, however, is expensive! The Vicky’s Scholarship Fund helps lessen this burden. Open to graduating seniors and adults pursuing higher education, the Vicky’s Scholarship Fund provides much needed scholarships that assist residents pursuing their dream.

For all of our donors, thank you so much for your support! The Vicky’s Scholarship Fund could not exist without substantial philanthropic support. Thank you to the Scholarship Committee for your hard work and dedication in selecting our scholarship awardees.

Once again, thank you to our

scholarship award winners! You

inspire us. We will always be to support you.
