KIHAVAH TRAVEL NOTES FOR A

SEAMLESS JOURNEY Landscape

The island of Kihavah Huravalhi, part of the Baa Atoll, is one of over

a thousand islands that make up the Indian Ocean’s Republic of the Maldives. One of only 200 inhabited islands in the nation, this pear-shaped coral island boasts powdery white sands, lush coconut groves, and a crystal clear lagoon with a nearby reef teeming with

marine life and the occasional whale shark.

People

The Maldivian people descended from ancient seafaring settlers from

across the Indian Ocean trading route, a diverse blend of South Asians

and Muslim Arabs. While the predominant language is Dhivehi, English

is understood by most.

Weather

With year-round sunshine and a tropical climate, temperatures in the

Maldives range from 24°C (75°F) to 33°C (91°F) throughout the year.

Currency

The national currency is the rufiyaa, with the exchange rate fluctuating

approximately MVR 10 - 15 to the US dollar. Changing money is best

done in Male, and ATMs are available throughout the capital city.

Resorts, however, use US dollars. Major credit cards are also widely

accepted.

Arrival

Visitors to the Maldives automatically qualify for a 30-day visa on arrival provided they have a

valid travel document, return ticket and

confirmed resort reservation.
