Setting Up A Teacher Account To get started you will need to enter the code for your building.
Go to the Discovery Education Streaming site and click on the Passcode/New User tab.
Enter the code for your building.
On the next screen choose “Create New Login”
Complete the Login Access , Name and Email address sections, click the agree to terms and then click continue to create your account.
Once you complete the process you will be logged in to your Discovery Education account.
If you forget your password you can enter your email and have the system email you a reset request message. You click on the URL in the message and will be taken to a website where you can enter a new password.

Setting up Student Accounts Student accounts are created in the Classroom Manager. In many cases your administrators will already have added the students to the system.
To add new students click on the classroom manager menu and choose My Classes.
You will need to create at least one class in order to add students.
Click Create a Class
Enter a Class name and optional description.
If student accounts already exist you choose them from the “Add from School Roster” tab. Otherwise click “Add new students”
Enter the required information for each student
Last Name, First Name, Username, Password and Grade.
You can add new lines for as many students as you need.

When you have entered all the students click Add New Students.
Your students now appear in the Class roster in section 3 on the top right of your screen.
Choose Save to complete the process and save your class.
Make a class for each of your classes.

Searching for Content The most direct way to find resources on Discovery Streaming is to use the search box located at the top of the screen in the blue bar.
Begin by entering keywords into the search box. The more options pane will open and allow you to refine your search.
You can further filter your results by Grade Level, Subjects or Media Types.
In the search example type “sharks” (without the quotes) in the search box and choose “Video Segment” under media type.
You should have 235 results. The first item in this is a Content Collection, which is like a “best of” series of Shark videos. Below this are listed individual videos. You can view them as grid or as a list.

Filtering Results In our search for sharks we used one filter (Video Segment) you will notice at the top of the search results that these can be added to or removed.
Our search query is for Keyword (Sharks) and filtered by Media Type (Video Segment) Click the X next to video segment and we will have all results.
You should now have 421 results.
To add new filtering criteria use the Narrow My Results pane in the left column.
Choose Image from the Media type section.
You should now see the 23 images in the results window.
Each image is a high resolution image that can be downloaded to your computer. They are offered in 3 resolutions to suit your purpose.
Take note of the different types of media available, in addition to the images, Full Video clips are longer videos which would comprise a whole show or episode. Video segments are shorter (2mins) segments. There is also clip art available.

Accessing Streaming Content The content from Discovery Education can be streamed to a variety of devices. Depending on the device, several streaming choices are available.
Click on the Hammerhead sharks video in your original query and the video will load in a popup screen.
You will see the main video is called Wild Deep:Galapagos and our Hammerhead segment is highlighted as the 5th section.
Click the play button in the middle of the preview screen to preview the video. You can expand to full
screen and turn up the sound to show this video as is to your class.
Note the media settings (Cog Icon) in the lower bar of the video screen.
You will see 3 choices for video streaming. The choice will depend on your operating system and what video decoders are installed.
Tablet(e.g. iPad) users will want to choose the Web (H.264) option.
Windows users (unless they have Quicktime installed -‐ comes with iTunes) should choose Windows
Mac users unless they have Flip for Mac installed) can choose Web or Quicktime.

Downloading Video Content Downloading of content can be done by clicking the Download Button on the top of the window.
The download pane expands to give you options for downloading the video to your device. The video can then be imported into PowerPoint or Smart Notebook or played in Quicktime or Windows Media Player.
The options for download choice will again vary according to device. Click on the currently downloading button and the options will be displayed.
Save your choice (note: there are separate settings for download and streaming)
Web: .mp4 file which can be edited in MovieMaker or iMovie.
Windows : .wmv file which is compatible with Powerpoint and Smart Notebook.
Quicktime: .mov file which is compatible with Powerpoint and SmartNotebook on the mac.

My Content
My content is where you can save videos for later use. You also store content from Builder Tools in my content.
To save a video for later use, click on the right side action button and choose Add to My Content
You can put it into an existing folder or create a new one for each project (e.g. Shark Week)
QuickList The plus button on the left of the action menu will add the video to your Quicklist.
The quick list is revealed by clicking the quicklist button on the bottom left of your screen.
The quicklist can be played to your class as a playlist.

Builder Tools The builder tools allow you to take DE content and create Assignments, Writing Prompts and Quizzes for you to use with your students.
Teacher Center The teacher center features alternative ways to access the content.
An example is to use the calendar and find a video that is related to this day in history.
