LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Wi! sympa!y & hugs, Bev Gundersonfor INRA
ur hearts are heavy as this month we lost a very dear friend and enthusiast for our INRA
rosemaling community. In place of Donna’s usual President’s Letter we would like to share news about her husband, Bill. On May 1, 2016, Bill Benson passed away. For many years now Bill has been an encourager and supporter of Donna in the pursuit of her rosemaling career. For years Bill could be found at our Rosemaling Show & Sale working with setup and other needs until
take down, coming to many of our General Meetings and other special events. As a result, we all got to know and love Bill and his enthusiasm for what we did. He will be missed.
From the memorial booklet at Bill’s service: “Bill’s generosity, big smiles, and his love for others enriched the lives of all those who knew him for a lifetime -‐ or 15 minutes; his gifts to us will always remain and touch the lives of so many”
To Donna, our friend, fellow rosemaler and President of INRA: Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you have lost you husband, life love, world traveling partner, and you walk the journey of healing and adjustment to things being different.

EDUCATION CORNER....PAST CLASSES Mary Olsen
Many have been asking for a class in Swedish Dalmalning and this past February Sandy Braun taught a fabulous class. The technique of the Swedish painting is very different from Rosemaling and often very bright colors. Sandy’s style is bright and cheery with lots of details. Sandy shared some of the history about the origins of this style painting and had many examples and study pieces to work with. Everyone was able to go home with at least one piece finished or close to it. Thanks Sandy for an excellent class.

Beginner Telemark Class with Bev Gunderson
It was a beautiful winter Saturday that greeted 14 students to the INRA Intro to Rosemaling one day class this past January. We spent six hours learning some of the history and exploring the basic stroke work of rosemaling. This was a new one day class we did for those who showed an interest in learning rosemaling at our the show and different sales venues we had throughout the year. Several of the attendees then signed up for the Beginner class that followed. We will be offering this again August 20, 2016.
Our winter Beginner Telemark Class was attended by 8 students this past January and February. In this class each students learned some of the history of rosemaling, the C & S strokes used as a basis for all the designs of rosemaling, some lettering and design structure as well as learning to set up a color palette and colors used in rosemaling. INRA will be offering this class again on Saturday mornings, September and October 2016.

The kurbits is a symbol of protection taken from the
Biblical story of Jonah. When Jonah went and sat
out on the hillside, God made a tree to grow over him to protect him from
the heat of the sun.

Husfliden Guidelines For 2016
Husfliden is an area of the show where small rosemaled items and other related Scandinavian works of art such as Swedish Dalmalning, carving, stitchery or other handcrafted items are sold. These items are not part of the INRA Rosemaling Show and Competition or regular Rosemaling Sales area.
Husfliden items must be new, decorated or produced by an INRA member, and Scandinavian in design, craft, or background.
To have items sold in Husfliden, please note:
All items will be handled under the following guidelines:
1. You must be a member of INRA to sell items through Husfliden.2. A 20% (or 25% if member sells but is not present to work show) commission on the sale price
will be retained by INRA for each item.3. All items should be tagged or labeled by the seller. Tags must identify the seller, the item,
and the price. On the tags you should use an “H” in place of the “FS” in the ID number if you know the item will definitely go into Husfliden. For example, the ID number could read 100/H/010, which shows that artist #100, is the Husfliden sales section, and item is the 10th item on the list.
4. The Husfliden itemized inventory list should be filled out and brought in with the inventory list of “for sale” items paperwork for the Show Chairmen. The tags (explained above) must correspond to the Husfliden inventory list.
For further information, please contact a Show Chairmen.

The following pages are the information and forms for our 2016 Rosemaling Show & Sale. Please read them through and bring filled out forms with your sale items for the show set up on June 18th at 9 am at Good Templar Park.
Due to an insufficient amount of show entries, INRA will not sponsor a competition at our 2016 show. We will however, still sell our rosemaled items and have the Husfliden and raffle. Inventory sheets for Husfliden items (along with guidelines) and rosemaled “for sale” items are attached. Download them for your use or contact me at 847-‐692-‐4689 (Ruth Haller) and I will send them to you.

Numbering System and Labeling for 2016 INRA Rosemaling Show
Please attach a three part item number to each piece of rosemaling that you enter in the sale. For this year please use white string sales tags like we do for the Husfliden.
EXAMPLE: (_____/ FS / ____) (1) (2) (3)
(1) Your Personal Artist Number: This number is assigned to you only; you should have been given this number with your membership. If you don’t have or remember it, call or email Holly, membership chairman.
(2) The Classification Code: FS = For Sale Items H = Husfliden
(3) Consecutive numbering starting with “001” and going up to a many pieces as you are selling.
EXAMPLES: 102/FS/001 = Artist #102 / For Sale / 1st item 102/FS/025 = Artist #102 / For Sale / 25th item
For Sale List: The Inventory List is a list of all For Sale items. On page 1, start numbering consecutively, beginning with “001” in the “item number” column. Remember to attach a For Sale small white string tag to each For Sale item.
Husfliden: Husfliden items are numbered like For Sale items, but using an H in place of the
FS. See the Husfliden rules page for more info. The Husfliden list is a list for all appropriate Husfliden items. Number items consecutively, same as For Sale items.
Note Change: Be sure to use the white string tag when labeling your pieces. We are not using the usual large white label on the back of items used in previous years. Please be careful!
