Avira Exchange Security detects a suspicious email file attachment.

The file's digital fingerprint is determined and sent to Avira Protection Cloud for analysis.

This fingerprint is compared to files checked previously by the Protection Cloud. This can lead to two outcomes:

The fingerprint matches a file already checked by the Protection Cloud and is classified as either safe or malware.

Alternatively, Avira Protection Cloud doesn't know the fingerprint yet, The Protection Cloud uploads the file, analyzes it, and classifies it as either safe or malware.

Avira Protection Cloud then reports the status of the fingerprint (safe or infected) to Avira Exchange Security.

If the file is classified as malware, Avira Exchange Security stops the threat.
