Next Generation AirplanesDepend on Properly Trained Technicians

• The airline industry is being revolutionized with expensive aircraft that totally depend on computers and avionics.

• This equipment is 60% of the value of modern aircraft .

• Without sufficient numbers of well-qualified Avionics Technicians, Next Generation airplanes cannot be operated efficiently. Money will be lost.

Boeing and ICAO Forecast Major Needs for Aviation Technicians

• Over the next 20 years, needs for new technicians to serve new aircraft will be significant world-wide. China and the Asia-Pacific Region represent 38% of overall demand.

• “The overall fleet growth (and an increasing trend to outsourcing maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities to third-party providers in emerging markets) will drive an increased overall need for qualified technicians sourced from an expanded number of locations.”

– Boeing Company

Most Current Technicians Lack Aptitudes and Skills for Next Generation Airplanes

• Boeing Company and Delta Air Lines have discovered that most current Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (particularly those with FAA or other equivalent Airframe & Powerplant Ratings) have neither the training nor the aptitudes needed to work on Next Generation (NG) airplanes.

• According to Boeing, most AMTs sent for Next Generation airplane Type Training are experiencing difficulties.

• Both Boeing and Delta are providing costly, time consuming, supplemental training programs for their own employees to try to compensate for shortcomings in FAA and other Aircraft Maintenance Technician programs.

For Other Countries, There is a Solution: Avionics Technician Training to EASA Standards

• Schools throughout the USA and many parts of the world do not offer programs that prepare students for avionics work on Next Generation airplanes.

• In the USA, much of the problem stems from the fact that the FAA does not approve Avionics Technician programs or offer Avionics Technician certifications of any kind. FAA Aircraft Maintenance Technician licensing programs (Airframe and Powerplant) follow curricula that have been largely unchanged for 40 years. There is minimal avionics coverage in FAA technician licensing programs.

Few US Schools Offer Avionics Technician Programs:No FAA Curriculum, Licensing, Standards, or Support

Widely-Recognized EASAAvionics Technician Standards

Ten years ago, European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) began to address international Avionics Technician needs.

Today, EASA has the only widely-recognized standards in the world for Avionics Technician training and certification.

EASA features the following:

• Compressive 1,500 to 2,400 hour Avionics Technician curriculums that features almost 50% practical training

• EASA Part-147 Maintenance Training Organisation (MTO) approval with a integral Quality Management System (QMS)

• In-house practical testing and independent academic testing with high standards
