Description:The ASI-154-1 Radar System Test Panel is designed to facilitate testing, alignment, and troubleshooting of the Bendix RDR-1F Weather Radar System. The Test Panel assists in determining the operational status of any unit of an RDR-1F Radar System. The ASI-154-1 is comparable to the complete aircraft radar wiring harness and, in conjunction with standard shop test equipment, allows one unit at a time to be tested by substitution with a known serviceable unit.

The ASI-154-1 includes test interconnect cables for the Antenna, Indicator, and R/T. A user supplied Radar Control (CON-1R/1S) is required for proper operation of the test panel. The control mounts directly on the front panel of the ASI-154-1 and can be easily interchanged with other controls as required during testing.

Test panels designed to test each unit of the RDR-1F Weather Radar System individually are also available from Avionics Specialist, Inc. These test panels are listed in the optional equipment section below.

The ASI-172 Radar Test panel is designed to test the operational functions of the Bendix CON-1 Radar Control and the ANT-1 Radar Antenna, with the exception of the antenna's RF performance.

The ASI-171 test functions are determined by a combination of front panel switches. A variac allows the user to adjust the proper test voltages. The test panel also features a dual tuning eye which indicates synchro null and rotation reference condition.

Description:The ASI-173 Radar Indicator Test Panel is designed to facilitate bench testing, alignment, and troubleshooting of the Bendix PPI-1D, PPI-1E-2, PPI-1G, and PPI-1GT Radar Indicators. The test panel is intended to provide a centralized means of conveniently and accurately determining equipment performance with a minimum amount of ancillary test equipment.

The Radar Indicator Test Panel contains circuitry for applying a variety of video signals to the PPI-1( ). These include video pulses, system noise, noise bursts, and noise with STC action. Front panel controls facilitate the performance of numerous tests to evaluate the operation of the PPI-1( ).

The ASI-173 contains the power supply and wave form generator used in a typical RDR-1E Receiver-Transmitter unit. The power supply provides 17.5, 50, 140, 300, and -250 vdc. The 18 vac reference phase voltage and variable control voltage to the drive motor are also generated by the test panel. The wave form generator emits trigger pulses at 200 and 400 Hz and provides the necessary gate voltage for producing noise bursts.

The ASI-173 includes two test cables required for proper operation.

Description:The ASI-175 Portable Altimeter Test Set facilitates rapid testing for various functions of the Bendix ALA-51A altimeter. The Test Set is portable and may be used on the bench or in the aircraft.

The ASI-175 connects to the test plug on the front of the altimeter and quickly evaluates performance of the altimeter by monitoring and interpreting the outputs of various test points. The ASI-175 measures major power supply voltages and overall monitor performance by fault simulation. The Test Set also provides a swept altitude signal to check the operation of the altitude trips, it can initiate the test function, and provides the capability for checking the operation of the ground proximity warning system.

The ASI-175-2 Altimeter Test Set is designed to facilitate the rapid testing of the various functions of the Bendix ALA-52A Radio Altimeter. The Test Set is portable and may be used either on the test bench or inside the aircraft.

The ASI-175-2 is capable of injecting simulated altitude frequencies into three altimeters simultaneously. The modulating frequencies (145,150, and 155 Hz) of the three altimeters can then be checked individually. The ASI-175-2 is also capable of simulating various rates of aircraft descent.

The ASI-175-2 receives the ARINC 429 altitude words from the altimeter under test and displays decoded altitude, along with the 429 word label and status. The Test Set can be set to read and decode either the binary or BCD 429 word from the altimeter. A functional self-test of the altimeter can be initiated at the test set. Built-in test equipment (BITE) results are displayed on the front panel annunciator.

Description:The ASI-199 Radio Altimeter Test Panel is designed to facilitate testing, adjustment, and troubleshooting of the Bendix ALA-51A Radio Altimeter and INA-51A/B/V Radio Altimeter Indicator.

The ASI-199 includes two main sections, a test panel (ASI-199-1) and a precision delay line (ASI-199-3). The ASI-199 includes all switching, metering, calibrated delays, attenuators, indicators and interconnecting cables required to operate and function test the ALA-51A Radio Altimeter System.

The Test Panel has provisions for connecting an INA-51 indicator under test in addition to connecting a test indicator to assist in the alignment and testing of the ALA-51A Radio Altimeter. Built in test features permit the servicing and calibration of indicators on the bench without the additional requirement of a known good ALA-51A Radio Altimeter.

The ASI-199 includes seven interconnecting test cables and two extender boards required testing for the ALA-51A and INA-51( ).

The ASI-202 ADF System Test Panel is designed to facilitate testing, alignment, and troubleshooting of the Bendix DFA-73, DFA-74 ADF Receivers, and the CNA-73 ADF Control.

The ASI-202 contains circuitry which simulates a loop antenna, a sense antenna, and an antenna coupler. This circuitry converts the input from a signal generator to simulate a signal at zero degrees relative bearing, causing the ADF Indicator to display a reading of zero degrees. Voltage division is provided by the simulating circuitry so that the RF input to the ADF Receiver can be read directly in microvolts per meter at the output of the RF signal generator.

A panel mounted ADF control (user supplied) provides functions not contained in the ASI-202 such as tuning, volume, function selection, band switching, manual loop control, and voice or cw selection. The ASI-202 comes equipped with an ADF Bearing Indicator and also includes three test cables (Loop, Sense, and UUT).

Description:The ASI-360 Radar System Test Panel provides a self contained means of testing the Bendix RDR-1X0/1XX0 series of Weather Radar Systems. The ASI-360 directly replaces the radar system test harness shown in the various RDR manuals.

The ASI-360 includes a gyro simulator, test points, switching, power and interconnection required to test the RDR systems.

The 90 and 150 Hz localizer and glide slope modualation signals, generated by the ASI-413-2, have a high degree of frequency and amplitude stability, which is maintained by an automatic calibration loop. The ASI-742 Radar System Test Panel is used in conjunction with CON-4A/4B Controllers, PPI-4B Indicator, RTA-4A R/T, and DAA-4A Antenna Drive Unit to form and test the RDR-4A Weather Radar System.

The ASI-742 provides a central station for interconnection of the above units. The ASI-742 generates target range, pulse width and digital or analog attitude signals, and ground speed signals which are transmitted to the R/T. The signals generated by the ASI-742 simulate signals from the antenna and the aircraft. Provision has been made for mounting the CON-4A/4B directly on the front panel.

Description:The ASI-743 TCAS PPT Adapter Test Panel is used in conjunction with the ASI-174 (PPT-1B) or ASI-760 (PPT-4A) to test, align, and troubleshoot TCAS modified PPI-1T, PPI-1U, and PPI-4B Weather Radar Indicators and the ITA-81A Traffic Display. The ASI-743 interfaces to existing test cable harnesses and modification to existing test panels are not required.

The ASI-743 interfaces data and video signals from the existing test panel to the PPI-1T/-1U/-4B Weather Radar Indicator being tested. The necessary operating voltages for the PPI-1T/-1U/-4B are also interfaced through the ASI-743 to the PPI's. ITA-81A operating power is supplied directly from the ASI-743.

The ASI-743's internal TCAS 429 and ACARS 429 generator modules provide the 100 kHz 32 bit serial data required for testing the PPI radar indicators and the ITA-81A.

Four cables required for interconnection and testing of the PPI-1T, PPI-1U, PPI-4B, and ITA-81A are included with the ASI-174.

The ASI-760 Radar Indicator Test Panel is designed to test, align, and troubleshoot the PPI-4B Weather Radar Indicator without the use of an R/T or radar control (CON).

The Test Panel has the capability to receive and display ARINC 429 control words, and to generate and transmit ARINC 429 and 453 data words to the PPI-4B. The ARINC 453 words are generated from the ARINC 429 data received, or from internal circuits which can be manipulated using various front panel switches. The ASI-760 also provides and monitors power required to energize the PPI-4B being tested.

The ASI-760 can be used in conjunction with the ASI-743 (AIT-4A) to test PPI-4B Indicators with TCAS capability. An optional cable (ASI-76-0B) is also available that will enable the ASI-760 to test the CCA-4A Checklist Unit

The ASI-760 includes the PPI-4B interconnect cable.

Description:The ASI-770 Radar Antenna Simulator Test Panel is designed to replace the Bendix DAA-4A Antenna Drive Unit in the RDR-4A Radar System test environment

The ASI-770 simulates the motor load, mechanical response, and synchro outputs of the antenna drive unit. It responds to elevation and scan drive signals, originating at the RTA-4A Receiver- Transmitter, by feeding back simulated synchro output signals that are representative of the antenna azimuth and elevation motors.

The Test Panel also has the capability of simulating all valid ranges the the RTA-4A responds to, as well as the invalid ranges which the RTA-4A does not respond to. A warning light on the front of the panel comes on when an invalid range is selected at the ASI-770.

The ASI-770 is supplied with two cables required for interface and proper operation.

The ASI-771 Radar Antenna Test Panel is designed to facilitate alignment, testing, and troubleshooting of the Bendix DAA-4A Drive Unit/REA-4( ) Planer Array Radar Antenna.

The ASI-771 contains circuitry to convert the azimuth synchro transmitter input of the DAA-4A/REA-4( ) and DAA-4B Radar Antenna into a DC signal which varies with the changing position at the antenna. This DC signal is further processed to control the azimuth drive of the radar antenna through a limited azimuth scan (approx. 120°). The ASI-771 also has the ability to vary the elevation of the antenna in tilt up or tilt down.

The ASI-771 is supplied with four cables required for interface and proper operation.
