Avid recommends that you read all the information in this document before connecting or using your new hardware and software.

Avid documentation uses the following symbols and conventions:

If You Need HelpIf you are having trouble using your Avid product:

1. Retry the action, carefully following the instructions given for that task in this guide. It is especially important to check each step of your workflow.

Symbol or Convention Meaning or Action

nA note provides important related information, reminders, recommendations, and strong suggestions.

cA caution means that a specific action you take could cause harm to your computer or cause you to lose data.

wA warning describes an action that could cause you physical harm. Follow the guidelines in this document or on the unit itself when handling electrical equipment.

> This symbol indicates menu commands (and subcommands) in the order you select them. For example, File > Import means to open the File menu and then select the Import command.

This symbol indicates a single-step procedure. Multiple arrows in a list indicate that you perform one of the actions listed.

1 Avid Artist DNxIQ

Avid Artist DNxIQ is a professional video I/O interface designed to simplify and accelerate your HD, Ultra HD, 2K, and 4K workflow. Available as standalone hardware or bundled with Media Composer software, Artist | DNxIQ enables you to capture, monitor, and output media quickly in the highest quality possible. And because the interface is designed to be open and flexible, you can use it with Avid and other creative tools too.

Connecting Avid Artist DNxIQ

Use the following procedures to connect the Avid Artist DNxIQ hardware to your computer, install the Media Composer software and install the Desktop Video software.

Connecting Avid Artist DNxIQ to Your Computer

You can connect the Avid Artist DNxIQ to your computer through a Thunderbolt connector or through a PCIe connector.

n For customers that require Thunderbolt connectivity over longer distances than standard 2 meter copper Thunderbolt cables, Avid has tested and qualified 30 meter and 60 meter optical Thunderbolt cabling offered by Corning. For more information, please visit www.opticalcablesbycorning.com

To connect through the Thunderbolt Connector:

1. Connect a Thunderbolt cable between the Artist DNxIQ and a Thunderbolt port on your computer.

2. For redundant power, use the 2 supplied power cords to connect the Artist DNxIQ hardware to AC power.

To connect through a PCIe Connector:

1. Make sure the PCIe card is installed in your host computer. See the documentation supplied with your host computer for information on installing a PCIe card. The PCIe card should be installed in a Gen 3 x4 PCIe slot in the system, or a Gen 2 x4 PCIe slot if Gen 3 not available.

2. Connect one end of the PCIe cable to the PCIe card in the host computer and the other end to the PCIe connection on the Artist DNxIQ.

3. For redundant power, use the 2 supplied power cords to connect the Artist DNxIQ hardware to AC power.

Installing Avid Media Composer Software

If Media Composer is already installed on your system, go to “Installing the Desktop Video Software” on page 8. If Media Composer is not already installed on your system, you must install the software.

(Windows) To install the Avid software:

1. Access your editing application download in your Avid Master Account here.

2. Click to launch the Avid Editor Suite installer to install the editing application. A window will open with instructions as well as options for choosing file locations and other custom settings.

3. Follow the on screen instructions.

- If the FilesInUse dialog box appears, you can safely select Ignore and continue.

- If you receive user access warnings during the installation, select Continue Anyway to continue your installation.

4. When prompted, choose to restart the computer.

The installation process adds a Desktop icon (Windows) or Dock icon (Macintosh) and a pointer to your Avid editing application in the Start menu (Windows). The installation process also adds an Application Manager icon to the Toolbar menu (Windows) or Dock (Macintosh). The Application Manager allows you to view the installed Avid application, license the application, subscribe to a support plan and try new offerings.

5. Once you restart, the Application Manager launches. See the Application Manager User Guide for information on activating your software.

(Macintosh) To install the Avid Editing application software:

1. Access your editing application download.

2. Double-click the .pkg file with the editing application name.

3. Click to launch the installer.

A window will open with instructions as well as options for choosing file locations and other custom settings.

4. Follow the on screen instructions.

5. When prompted, choose to restart the computer.

The installation process adds a Desktop icon (Windows) or Dock icon (Macintosh) and a pointer to your Avid editing application in the Start menu (Windows). Installing the Desktop Video Software

The Desktop Video software works in conjunction with your Avid Artist DNxIQ hardware. The download for the Desktop Video Software is provided in your Avid Master Account.

n If you have a previous version of Desktop Video software on your system, uninstall it before you install the latest version supplied in your Master Account or on the Avid download center.

To install the Desktop Video software.

1. Access your Avid Master Account here.

2. Access your downloads.

The Desktop Video installer and Desktop Video Manual are included with the download.

3. Uninstall any previous version of the Desktop Video software from the host machine.

4. When prompted, restart your system.

5. Download the installer and follow the on screen instructions for installing the software. When prompted, restart your system.

c In some instances, the version of the Desktop Video software that you install may include a firmware update. On Windows based host machines, this firmware update will occur at the end of the Desktop Video installation. On Macintosh based host machines, the firmware update will occur after the prompted restart. It is important to follow the procedure below, in order, after the firmware update completes:

6. Shut down the host CPU.

7. If the Avid Artist DNxIQ is connected via Thunderbolt, disconnect the Thunderbolt cable from the Artist DNxIQ.

n If the DNxIQ is connected via PCIe, do not disconnect the PCIe cable.

8. Unplug the power cable from the Artist DNxIQ unit.

9. Wait 30 seconds.

10. Reconnect the power cable to the Artist DNxIQ.

11. For Thunderbolt connected units, reconnect the Thunderbolt cable to the Artist DNxIQ.

12. Power on the host CPU.

Launching Avid Media Composer

To launch Media Composer, use the following procedure.

(Windows) To start your Avid editing application, do one of the following:

t Click Start > All Programs > Avid > Avid editing application.

t Double-click the Avid editing application desktop icon.

(Macintosh) To start your Avid editing application, do one of the following:

t Click the alias icon for your Avid editing application on the Dock.

t Select Go > Applications, and double-click the Avid editing application folder. Then double-click the Avid editing application file.

Launching the Desktop Video Utility

Use the Desktop Video Utility to configure hardware settings, and view a realtime status display showing the video connected to your DNxIQ inputs and outputs.

To launch the Desktop Video Utility:

(Windows 10) Do the following:

t From the Start page type 'Blackmagic' and then click the Blackmagic Desktop Video Utility application. Or launch the Desktop Video utility from the Windows control panel.

(Windows 7) Do the following:

t Click the Start > All Programs > Blackmagic Design > Desktop Video and click the Desktop Video utility application. Or launch the Desktop Video utility from the Windows 7 control panel.

(Macintosh) Do the following:

t Click Blackmagic Desktop Video in System preferences or launch the utility from your Applications folder.

Using Desktop Video to Setup the Avid Artist DNxIQ

When you first open the Desktop Video Utility, the home page displays your connected hardware and provides an overview of all video activity on your hardware’s input and output connections. If you are sending a video signal to your input, it will be automatically detected and the format will be displayed under the Video Input icon.

To configure settings, simply click on the hardware image, or the settings icon located below the hardware name. The Desktop Video utility only displays the settings that are relevant to your selected hardware.

Disposal of Waste Equipment by Users in the European Union

Rack-mount Requirements

The following rack-mount requirements are listed below:

• Elevated Operating Ambient - If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment might be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consider installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer.

• Reduced Air Flow - Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.

• Mechanical Loading - Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.

• Circuit Overloading - Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.

• Reliable Earthing - Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (for example, use of power strips).

Connexion de l'Avid Artist DNxIQ

Suivez les procédures ci-dessous pour connecter l'interface Avid Artist DNxIQ à votre ordinateur et installer le logiciel Media Composer ainsi que l'utilitaire Blackmagic Video Desktop.

Connexion de l'Avid Artist DNxIQ à votre ordinateur

Vous pouvez relier l'Avid Artist DNxIQ à votre ordinateur via un connecteur Thunderbolt ou PCIe.

Pour relier l'interface via le connecteur Thunderbolt :

1. Connectez un câble Thunderbolt entre l'Artist DNxIQ et un port Thunderbolt de votre ordinateur.

2. Pour la redondance de l'alimentation, reliez l'interface Artist DNxIQ à une source d'alimentation CA à l'aide des deux câbles fournis.

Pour relier l'interface via le connecteur PCIe :

1. Assurez-vous que la carte PCIe est installée sur l'ordinateur hôte. Reportez-vous à la documentation de votre ordinateur pour obtenir des informations sur l'installation des cartes PCIe. La carte PCIe doit être installée dans un emplacement PCIe 4x Gen 3, ou PCIe 4x Gen 2 si aucun port Gen 3 n'est disponible.

2. Reliez l'une des extrémités du câble PCIe à la carte PCIe de l'ordinateur hôte, et l'autre extrémité au connecteur PCIe de l'Artist DNxIQ.

3. Pour la redondance de l'alimentation, reliez l'interface Artist DNxIQ à une source d'alimentation CA à l'aide des deux câbles fournis.

Connexion de l'Avid Artist DNxIQ

Installation du logiciel Avid Media Composer

Si le logiciel Media Composer est déjà installé sur votre système, passez directement à la section “Installation du logiciel Desktop Video” on page 21. Dans le cas contraire, vous devez commencer par installer Media Composer sur votre système.

(Windows) Pour installer le logiciel Avid :

1. Accédez au lien de téléchargement de votre application de montage sur votre Compte principal Avid en cliquant ici.

2. Cliquez pour lancer le programme d'installation Avid Editor Suite et installer l'application de montage. Une fenêtre d'instructions s'ouvre et permet de sélectionner l'emplacement d'installation des fichiers, ainsi que diverses options de personnalisation.

3. Suivez les instructions à l'écran.

- Si la boîte de dialogue Fichiers en cours d'utilisation s'ouvre, cliquez sur Ignorer et continuez.

- Si des alertes d'accès utilisateur s'affichent, cliquez sur Continuer quand même pour poursuivre l'installation.

4. À l'invite, redémarrez l'ordinateur.

Lors de l'installation, une icône est créée sur le bureau (Windows) ou le Dock (Macintosh), et une entrée est ajoutée au menu Démarrer (Windows). L'icône du programme Avid Application Manager est également ajoutée à la barre des tâches (Windows) ou au Dock (Macintosh). Avid Application Manager permet de consulter la liste de vos applications Avid, de gérer les licences associées, de s'abonner aux offres de support et de tester de nouveaux produits.

5. À l'issue du redémarrage, Avid Application Manager s'ouvre. Reportez-vous au Guide de l'utilisateur Avid Application Manager pour plus d'informations sur l'activation de vos logiciels.

(Macintosh) Pour installer l'application de montage Avid :

1. Accédez au lien de téléchargement de votre application de montage.

2. Double-cliquez sur le fichier .pkg portant le nom de l'application de montage.

3. Cliquez pour lancer le programme d'installation.

Connexion de l'Avid Artist DNxIQ

Installation du logiciel Desktop Video

Le logiciel Desktop Video de Blackmagic Design fonctionne conjointement avec votre interface Avid Artist DNxIQ. Le lien de téléchargement du logiciel Desktop Video est accessible depuis votre Compte principal Avid.

n Si une version antérieure du logiciel Desktop Video de Blackmagic Design est déjà installée sur votre système, désinstallez-la avant d'installer la dernière version téléchargée depuis votre Compte principal Avid.

Pour installer le logiciel Desktop Video :

1. Accédez à votre Compte principal Avid en cliquant ici.

2. Accédez aux liens de téléchargement.

Le programme d'installation et le manuel du logiciel Desktop Video sont inclus dans le téléchargement.

3. Téléchargez le programme d'installation et suivez les instructions à l'écran pour installer le logiciel. À l'invite, redémarrez votre système.

c À l'issue du redémarrage, un message peut s'afficher pour indiquer qu'une mise à jour du firmware de la DNxIQ est nécessaire. Dans ce cas, procédez à la mise à jour, mettez le système et le boîtier Avid Artist DNxIQ hors tension, débranchez puis rebranchez le boîtier DNxIQ et remettez le système et le boîtier sous tension.

Lancement d'Avid Media Composer

Pour lancer Media Composer, suivez la procédure ci-dessous.

(Windows) Pour ouvrir votre application de montage Avid, effectuez l'une des opérations suivantes :

t Cliquez sur Démarrer > Tous les programmes > Avid > Application de montage Avid.

t Double-cliquez sur l'icône de l'application de montage Avid sur le bureau.

(Macintosh) Pour ouvrir votre application de montage Avid, effectuez l'une des opérations suivantes :

t Cliquez sur l'icône d'alias de l'application de montage Avid sur le Dock.

t Sélectionnez Aller > Applications, puis double-cliquez sur le dossier de l'application de montage Avid. Double-cliquez ensuite sur le fichier de l'application de montage Avid.

Lancement de l'utilitaire Desktop Video

L'utilitaire Desktop Video permet de configurer les paramètres de l'interface et de consulter en temps réel le statut de la vidéo présente sur les entrées et les sorties de la DNxIQ.

Pour lancer l'utilitaire Desktop Video :

(Windows 8) Effectuez les opérations suivantes :

t À partir de la page Démarrer, saisissez « Blackmagic », puis cliquez sur l'application Blackmagic Desktop Video, ou lancez l'utilitaire depuis le panneau de configuration de Windows 8.

Configuration de l'Avid Artist DNxIQ à l'aide de l'utilitaire Desktop Video

Lorsque vous lancez l'utilitaire Blackmagic Desktop Video pour la première fois, la page d'accueil affiche le matériel connecté et fournit un aperçu de l'activité vidéo présente sur les entrées et sorties de l'interface. Si un signal vidéo est envoyé en entrée, il est automatiquement détecté et son format est affiché sous l'icône Video Input.

Pour configurer les paramètres, cliquez sur l'image de l'interface ou l'icône des paramètres affichée sous le nom de l'interface. L'utilitaire Desktop Video affiche uniquement les paramètres pris en charge par l'interface sélectionnée.
