Greensboro’s experienced, skilled workforce provides the foundation for success in aviation. Through strong training in aviation maintenance, pilot certification, avionics and composite processing, Greensboro offers a competitive advantage.

Guilford Technical Community College is the home of the T.H. Davis Aviation Center, which provides hands-on aviation experience and offers customized, industry specific training. GTCC’s aviation offerings have expanded with a second building for avionics, sheet metal, composites and non-destructive inspections programs. A third facility is under development for pilot, management, and the NC location of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

The Andrews Aviation Academy allows students to earn college credit while attending high school, giving them a head start on the technical training needed for certification. Students can work on and around aircraft while broadening their knowledge of computer engineering technology, electronics, and scientific visualization.

North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T), designated as a “High Research Activity” university by the Carnegie Foundation, offers advanced research support:

• Center for Advanced Materials Research and Smart Structures

• Center for Composite Materials Research

• The Advanced Composite Training Center

The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, sponsored by The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and NC A&T, is housed at Gateway University Research Park. Master’s and doctoral degrees in nanoscience and nanoengineering are offered.
