AT TOULOUSE FAL
Airbus has delivered the front fuselage for the f irst
f lyable A350 XWB (MSN1) to the Final Assembly Line
(FAL) in Toulouse (France). The impressive 21 metre
long section is already equipped w ith its systems and
w as f low n in from Airbus’ site in Saint-Nazaire (France)
by the Airbus Beluga transport aircraft.

BOEING’S 50TH 747-400BCFDELIVERS TO EVERGREEN
INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES
Boeing, Evergreen International Airlines and Taikoo
Aircraft Engineering (TAECO) celebrate the delivery of
the 50th 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF).
The airplane is the f irst to enter the Evergreen f leet and
the 40th conversion completed by TAECO.
All 747-400BCF deliveries have been completed on or
ahead of scheduled commitments to customer airlines.

The first ‘cutting of metal’ for the Airbus A320neo has taken place in Toulouse. Marking
the start of manufacturing of the airliner, machining began of the f irst engine pylon
component at the “Saint-Eloi” Airbus dedicated pylon and nacelle factory in Toulouse.

Virgin America reported its f inancial results for the f irst quarter of 2012. With overall
fuel costs higher by 47 percent year-over-year, the f inancial pressure of the airline’s
industry-leading capacity grow th and a revenue shortfall associated w ith the carrier’s
transition to a new reservations system, Virgin America reported a f irst quarter
operating loss of $49 million on revenues of $267 million.

Sharing Airbus experience on
long term basis for the benefit of

Airbus and GMF AeroAsia
(GMF), the maintenance and
repair subsidiary of Garuda
Indonesia, have signed a
memorandum agreement for
Maintenance Training
Collaboration to develop a 10-
year strategic partnership. As
part of this, GMF w ill become
Airbus’ local maintenance
training centre in Indonesia.
This partnership, to be f inalised
follow ing a definitive agreement
in the near future, is aimed at
developing the maintenance
training capabilities locally in
Indonesia, based on respective
strengths and assets of GMF
and Airbus. This co-operation
w ill provide Airbus training
standards locally to deliver
f lexibility and cost effectiveness.
The scope of such collaboration
w ill also address the follow ing:
• Developing GMF’s ‘ab-initio’
(basic) training capabilities
• Integration of GMF’s instructors

delivery of 20 A321 aircraft, the
airline’s press-service reports.
The liners ordered by UTair w ill
feature a cabin layout seating
220 passengers. The airline
intends to operate the jets on the
most popular international tourist
and domestic routes. The f irst
deliveries are scheduled for
2013.

FL Technics Training: are
older aircraft less
airworthy?
Timew orn aircraft, poor quality
of MRO services and the
shortage of experienced pilots
are among the most frequent
reasons for the biggest
accidents in the aviation history.
The last year’s crashes of the
Russian aircraft have draw n the
attention to the age of aircraft
and how it might affect f light
safety. A number of recent
airw orthiness directives for the
general aviation f leet seem to be
directly related to aircraft age
and f light time. On the other
hand, analysts say that human
error has accounted for 70 per
cent of all aircraft accidents over
the last decade. Many aviation
experts believe that as concerns
aircraft there is no such w ord as
‘old’, stressing that airplanes can
fly for many years as long as all
maintenance procedures are
follow ed. So how old is too old?
