Details really do make a difference. In fact, paying attention to details is what sets us apart from our competitors. It’s what helps us get
our customers’ freight moved on time, on target and intact. Details matter, and our team relies on each other to cross every “T” and dot every “I” to help us reach our goals.
One of the best places for each of us to start is with our professional look. Our team looks sharp and ready for success when we put on our Averitt red. Our team’s dedication to professionalism shows how much we care.
That’s why I’m so proud to put on my Averitt red. It means I’m part of a team that is committed to doing the little things right, because the results are a big deal.
Thank you for being the ultimate profess-ional, for taking the time to pay attention to details. Our customers appreciate it, I appreciate it, and your fellow associates appreciate it. Take the next step in main-taining that discipline by keeping your Averitt gear up to date and looking sharp!INSIDE

Your daily decisions may seem small at the time –
double-checking a list, getting to work on time,
wearing a fresh shirt and keeping your hair groomed.
But together, they keep us running like a well-oiled
machine. A machine that’s taking us farther than we
ever could have gone on our own.
Details make all the difference. And you prove it
over and over again, day in and day out.

in many different areas – from garment measurement

28 UNIFORM-ITY 2013 CATALOG
Start with the unbuttoned shirt’s back, making sure it’s flat on the board with the sleeves hanging off either side of the rounded end. Move in
gentle circular motions, working from the center to the side seams. Use a little steam throughout, espe-cially with cotton.
Now a sleeve. Place the underarm seam straight along the board and nearest to you. Making sure it’s smooth, hold it tight and flat while you firmly iron the seam itself. Work away from the seam, being careful to sharpen any pleats. Repeat with other sleeve.
Open each cuff completely with the button facing up, ironing from the sleeve edge of the cuff out toward the ends and sides.
Iron each side of the front separately, laying it flat and smoothing it out. Work around the buttons and make sure to firmly iron both plackets (the strips with the buttons and buttonholes). Work from the plackets to the side seams.
Open the collar faceup and lay it fully flat. Use tiny circular movements to work from the outside edge of the collar. Keep the iron pointed toward the shirt label. Then fold the collar down and firmly press in the top ridge with your fingers.
THESE SHORT TUTORIALS WILL WALK YOU THROUGH COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT GARMENT MAINTENANCE TO KEEP YOUR WARDROBE ALL BUTTONED-UP.

CARING FOR YOUR CLOTHES
1. Make a 1/8-inch stitch in the shirt, leaving a three-inch end of loose thread.Make another 1/8-inch stitch perpendic-ular to the last, making a cross.
2. Holding the button 1/8 inch away from the shirt, thread the needle up through one hole and down through the diagonally opposite hole. Do the same with the other holes. Repeat four times.
3. Tightly wrap the thread around the bunch of threads between the button and cloth to create a tight pillar.
4. Push the needle through this pillar a few times, then cut the thread near the pillar. The button should now be secure.

UNIFORM CARE
Blot, don’t rub. Rubbing damages the fibers, removes dyes and can spread the stain.
Act quickly. The faster you respond, the better your chances of saving your garment.
Know your limits. You might hurt more than you help on oil-based stains. Get it dry cleaned.
COFFEE & TEA Rinse with peroxide, white vinegar or club soda.
BLOOD Rub fabric against itself under cold water. Avoid hot water, which will set the stain.
GREASE & OIL Blot any excess with a napkin. Work baking soda or cornstarch into stain to draw it out. Launder with a heavy-duty detergent.
INK Douse with aerosol hairspray or rubbing alcohol and blot. Sponge detergent on the stain before washing.
TOMATO SAUCE Scrape off excess, then apply a mixture of cool water and liquid dish soap. Blot stubborn stains with white vinegar.

FOLLOW THE LAUNDRY DIRECTIONS. You know the little label inside every garment? It tells you exactly how to clean it for the freshest look and longest life. Take a look and make sure you’re washing wisely.
Help your gear last longer.THREE TIPS FOR GETTING THE LONGEST LIFE OUT OF YOUR CLOTHES.
WEAR THE RIGHT SIZE. It may seem like a no-brainer to order clothes that fit, but wearing the wrong size causes garments to wear out more quickly. Double-check that you’re ordering the right size by using the measuring info on page 32 and the size charts on your order form.
ROTATE YOUR WARDROBE. If you really want your clothes to last, it’s important to rotate them by having enough options in your wardrobe to make different outfits and wear each item less frequently. For ideas on what to buy, see our Essentials collection on page 24.
HOW TO REMOVE A STAIN
30 UNIFORM-ITY 2013 CATALOG
STAINED COLLAR? Repair. Next time you wash it, pretreat the collar with hair shampoo. Keep it from happening again by wearing it only once between washes.
FRAYED COLLAR? Recycle. You could have a collar repaired, but it’s not worth the time and money.
STAINS UNDER THE ARM? Repair. Try dissolving a few denture-cleansing tablets in a bowl of warm water, or use a bit of OxiClean.
FRAYED CUFFS? Recycle. Getting the cuffs replaced is just as expensive as getting a new shirt, and not nearly as rewarding.
MISSING BUTTONS? Repair. You probably knew this one, but a needle and thread are the only tools you need. See page 28 for how to sew on a button.
FADED COLOR? Recycle. You’ve worn all the Averitt Red out of it. That’s good, but it’s time to move on.
IF YOUR SHIRT HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS, FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN BRING IT BACK TO LIFE OR IF YOU SHOULD SEND IT TO A NEW HOME.

UNIFORM CARE
SHOE POLISH Kiwi wax-based polish will work just fine. (Cream polishes may be easier but generally won’t give you the same shine.)
WELT BRUSH A toothbrush-shaped tool that gets the grit out of the welt, which is the seam that joins the shoe’s upper to the sole. (Actually, you can just use a toothbrush if you want.)
POLISHING CLOTH Make sure it’s lint-free cotton or linen. No matter the polish color, use the same one to put on the polish and to buff. And keep it afterward, because the longer you use the same cloth, the more it suffuses with rich oils and dyes.
POLISHING BRUSH Gets the high shine out of the shoe once all the wax is worked into the leather. Horsehair works best.
SOLE DRESSING Restores the edge of the sole, which gets scuffed on doorjambs and sidewalks. Apply with a cotton swab or small craft brush.
The Steps
1. Remove surface dirt and stains by wiping down the shoes with a damp cloth.
2. Scrub out the entire welt strip with a wetted welt brush.
3. Carefully apply sole-edge dressing if necessary. If any gets on the uppers, they will be permanently stained. Let the dressing dry before continuing on.
4. Apply polish in a circular rubbing motion. No need to be gentle. You don’t need to use a ton, but the more you rub, the better. Let the polish dry, which should take about five minutes.
5. Use a polishing brush to buff the shoe. Get extra shine by holding the shoe between your knees and buffing the toe vigorously with a lint-free cloth.
HOW TO POLISH YOUR SHOES
HOW TO PREVENT SMELLY SHOESFor starters, wash your feet and especially your socks more often. Make sure you have two or three pairs of shoes you can interchange so you don’t wear the same pair back to back. If you wear dress shoes, place unvarnished cedar shoe trees into them immediately after removal. Other shoes don’t need trees, but try deodorant spray or even just blocks of cedar. If your shoes already smell, try changing your insoles.

SLEEVE LENGTH Measure from the center of the outside collar over the shoulder, around elbow, to the point where the sleeve should end (usually bottom of the wrist bone).
MEASURING
NECK Measure around the base of the neck, where a collared shirt would fit.
WAIST Measure over the shirt at the waist-line, where pants are normally worn. Tighten tape as snug as you prefer pants to fit.
CHEST Measure across the fullest part of the chest, under the arms and across the back.
How toMEASURE MEN
WAIST Measure around the narrowest part of the natural waistline (just above the hipbones).
BUST Measure under the arms and around the fullest part of the bust.
HIPS Measure around the fullest part of the hips (normally seven to eight inches below the natural waistline).
INSEAM After adjusting pants to the position normally worn, measure from the crotch to the top of the shoe (or desired length).
How toMEASURE WOMEN
Measure twice, order once.TO GET THE MOST ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS:
DO NOT attempt to take your own measurements. Many have tried, many have failed.
WEAR your work shoes when measur-ing. The style of shoe affects pant length.
DO NOT adjust for shrinkage. The gar-ments have already been sized with shrinkage in mind.
ORDER the larger available size if you’re stuck between two.
33
Become a list-master. Write down all the things you need to accomplish today, this week and beyond. Then prioritize them in order of importance. Check them off as you go to build momentum.
Plan your day. Use your Today list to schedule out when you’ll do each task, and stick to it. You’re more likely to stay focused and finish on time.
Make big things small. Break down big tasks into a series of smaller, manageable steps. Make sure each step is small enough to not be intimidating. Then plan when you’ll do each step, and transfer steps to your Today list when they arrive.
Limit your distractions. Pay attention to when and how you get distracted, and also when you’re most focused and why. Then find practical ways to minimize your distractions and maximize your natural efficiencies.
Keep yourself fresh. When you’re at work, plan your breaks and use them well. Walk around. Get some fresh air. When you’re at home, eat healthy. Get some exercise and plenty of sleep.
