A comprehensive review of coding conventions, guidelines, and required documentation elements are presented and discussed by an experienced rehab coder. Participants apply the concepts by completing case studies and coding exercises.

Bouncebacks: Identifying Acute Readmissions from Inpatient Rehabilitation (half-day workshop!)The delivery of high-quality, patient-centered health care requires integration from many parts of the continuum, including effective coordination of transitions between providers and care settings. Poor coordination of care across settings may result in readmissions, many of which can be prevented. Working to reduce readmissions is one way of addressing quality improvement in your rehabilitation facility.

This half-day workshop is presented by a physiatrist and a rehabilitation researcher, and it examines the problem of readmissions back to acute care and readmissions after completion of the rehabilitation program within thirty days. The workshop describes the current research and identifies potential risk factors in a variety of conditions that place these patients at high risk for rehospitalization. The workshop also highlights pre-admission considerations and discusses actionable risk-reduction strategies that can have a positive effect on rehabilitation healthcare.
