Code of Conduct5.2 Functions and ConferencesAVA runs a number of functions and conferences each year. These functions are often evening or weekend events and involve members and employees. You must immediately advise the most senior AVA Manager and the Designated Responsible Person (defined below) at the function / event if at any stage during an event you see a situation that you feel:•is inappropriate behaviour, •a threat or potential threat to the safety of anyone present,•may lead to a negative perception of the AVA or any AVA group. Any situation which is investigated will follow The AVA Grievance Procedure.In accordance with our flexible working conditions and leave policy, leave in lieu must be approved by your Manager before working at a function or conference.
Code of Conduct5.3 Drugs and Alcohol at Functions/ConferencesYou are representing the AVA when you attend any AVA function or meeting and must at all times behave in accordance with this code. As a worker at an AVA event you are considered to be responsible for the safety of yourself and others and you must not be impaired by alcohol or drugs. Drinking alcohol while working at a conference or function is therefore not permitted. If attending an AVA social function and if drinking alcohol you should ensure that you drink in moderation. (In moderation means that you remain in control and act responsibly, and behave in a professional manner as defined in this code.) Your conduct should never cause discomfort or embarrassment to The AVA, AVA members, your colleagues or any other person. You should not engage in any conduct that could put at risk your safety or the safety of others and you should not drive under influence of alcohol. The use of recreational or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited at all times.
Health and Safety
• Report and incidents to Kandy or a senior member of staff e.g. safety or harassment IMMEDIATELY
• In an emergency onsite contact an AVA Events team member with walkie talkie or any Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre staff
Meals• All meals provided in the
staff/student area for staff • Staff meals are served at the
same time as the exhibitors e.g. ½ hour before the delegate break, and will be available for extended periods. – All meals to be eaten in the
staff/student area– No eating on the AVA stand
Staff/Student Area• Staff/Student area has a printer,
internet connections, Wi-Fi if you need to do work
• Tea and coffee and meal breaks
What to wear• Smart business attire on Stand• Name badge (if you don’t have one, ask
Sue)• Jeans okay for bump in and out, and
satchel packing. Please ensure you are wearing closed-toe shoes and a high visibility vest, which can be collected from the event organisers office for bump in and bump out.
• If you are working in the events team you need to wear the red vest.

delegates 28 hours of continuing professional development with up to 28 Vet Ed points over the full week.

• All SIGs will be represented on the AVA stand. There will be a table and 2 chairs outside each room, however, this is for distribution of their own SIG material.
Conference Proceedings
• Only issue to members of that SIG
• SIG to provide a list of who is to receive
• Mark off name and only one per member
NIAG - The National Industry Advisory Group for Veterinary
Nursing
Is the peak industry body associated with Veterinary Nursing in Australia. Its members are composed of AVA representatives, VNCA representatives and an RTO representative.
NIAG is involved in the standards, delivery and assessment of veterinary nurse training and coordination and administration of the Accredited Veterinary Nursing Scheme.
If you have any concerns or queries in relation to Veterinary Nursing in Australia please contact the AVA stand and the staff will take a message for NIAG for you.
Dr Julia Crawford Meare, Dr Peter Gibbs and Dr Mark Lawrie from NIAG will be in attendance at the AVA conference

• You can download this year’s AVA Conference app on any smartphone or tablet by entering eventmobi.com/conferenceava into the address bar in your browser – Be careful not to enter it in to the Google search bar! Please do it!

Be proactive• Members can be shy, be the person to start the
conversation• Please don’t stand around talking to each other.
The stand is not a meeting place for other staff• Debbie and Joanna are the only people floating on
the AVA stand. • If you’re not rostered, you’re not welcome, please
mingle with members and sponsors in the exhibition area, not on the stand.
• No selling sponsorship to exhibitors. They have spent a lot of money to sell to our members, not to be sold to!
• If you have spare time, sit down (not on the stand) save your feet !
• Or ask the organisers office if you can assist• Check who is on your flight to share taxis

Bump in/out• The events team does not set up or pack
up the AVA stand• Faith is in charge of bump in and bump
out• Keep the bump in boxes, they may be
needed to bump out• No one leaves until bump out until
completed (to get ready for the gala dinner)
• Scissors and tape and packing labels will be supplied
RETURN FREIGHT TO AVA OFFICE
• All staff MUST pack up THEIR OWN BOXES for return freight to AVA National Office.
• PLEASE use the packing label provided (DO NOT NUMBER YOUR BOXES).
• The events team will notify you on Wednesday 28 May of where your boxes need to be stacked at the Convention Centre for their return journey.
• ALL BOXES MUST BE PACKED AND READY FOR SHIPMENT BY 5:00PM ON THURSDAY 29 MAY. Any unlabelled or unsealed boxes will not be shipped back to AVA.
