March 2015 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, With the blessing of His Eminence, Archbishop Nathaniel, the Auxiliaries of the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America invite you and your family to this yearʼs Family Life/All- Auxiliaries Conference being held July 2–5, 2015 at The Presentation of Our Lord Orthodox Church in Fairlawn, OH (Akron). This is the third year we will get together as a Church family. This year, the conference will commemorate Archbishop Nathaniel's 35th Episcopal anniversary. In addition to the annual meetings of the Episcopate Auxiliaries—ARFORA, the Brotherhood and our youth (AROY), the conference includes activities for the entire family. The Planning Committee has prepared a program that includes workshops on a variety of themes and for all stages in life, a series of workshops particularly for Clergy and those interested in Christian education, a reprise of the spirited “Bible Challenge” competition, as well as a rich array of worship services, community building events, and opportunities to socialize and enjoy the company of our family and friends. Come and enjoy the Opening Picnic with activities for the whole family on Thursday July 2 nd , a “Carnival and Karaoke” evening on Friday night, a semi- formal Cotillion Dance on Saturday evening, and a Festive Banquet after celebrating the Divine Liturgy together on Sunday when we will commemorate the 35 th Anniversary of Archbishop Nathanielʼs ordination to the Episcopacy. Educational Initiatives at this yearʼs Family Life Conference…

* BIBLE CHALLENGE Exploring the Gospel of Luke

In preparation for the BIBLE CHALLENGE at this yearʼs Family Life Conference, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel and the cooperation of our Department of Religious Education, we encourage an Episcopate-wide study of the GOSPEL OF LUKE. We encourage all parishes to study this text during this Paschal and Pentecostal season and then come to the Family Life Conference and compete in the BIBLE CHALLENGE.

Study guides and practice questions are available at: www.orthodoxyouth.org/luke.

ANY 3 people can form a BIBLE CHALLENGE team. (Mom, Dad, kids…)

Prizes: We had a very spirited competition last year! This year, three prizes will be offered to the parishes of the winning teams (or charitable organization of their choosing.) We encourage each parish to send at least one Church School Teacher (or someone interested in Christian education) to this yearʼs conference. The conference will include a number of workshops especially designed for those interested in Christian education to learn about our faith and those of our neighbors. We encourage all to come and share their experiences of teaching our faith and learn about developing new ways of doing so. Come and meet others who are engaged in this ministry and bring back new ideas for your parish!

The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America 2015 All Auxiliaries/Family Life Conference (FLC)

Permission form for minors attending the FLC

All minors, under the age of 18, must be accompanied by his/her parent, legal guardian, or

supervising adult over 25 years old during the FLC. I am the parent/legal guardian of __________________________, a minor. I understand that my child is expected to participate in the religious services and FLC activities and is expected to obey and follow FLC procedures. I understand that I am solely responsible for my child. We waive, release and indemnify all of the following FLC Sponsors: The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America, the Orthodox Church in America, AROY, ARFORA, The Orthodox Brotherhood of the USA, The Orthodox Brotherhood of Canada, and ARCOLA, the Presentation of Our Lord Orthodox parish, and all individual staff, members, and volunteers from any and all claims, damages and costs for any injuries, ailments, death, and damages which our child or any of us may experience which may arise by attending the FLC, both on and off of Episcopate or parish property, and including the time our child leaves home for the FLC until his/her return home. This Release and Waiver shall be binding regardless of whether there is any evidence of negligence on the part of any FLC Sponsor or of any of its duly authorized staff, members, personnel or volunteers. 2015 Cotillion Information This year the auxiliaries of the Episcopate would like to celebrate this turning point in the youth of the church with a Cotillion Ball. This event is a way for the younger members of the church to be presented to the Episcopate as “coming of age,” the women as debutantes and the men as escorts. We are continuing this event as it was revived in the Family Life Conference of 2013. During this event there is a formal presentation, where the escorts will walk the mother, of the debutantes in, or another female member, during this time the escort will be presented. At this time there will be sharing of information about his high school involvement, plans for after high school, along with his church spiritual involvement. The debutantes will then be presented with their father, or another male family member. At this time, her high school involvement, after high school plans and church spiritual involvement information will be shared. Following the formal presentations we will spend the evening dancing, sharing memories, and creating new ones. Information you need to know: The Debutante: You must be an active member if the Orthodox Church, age 15-19. The dress: A floor length, white gown **your shoulders must be covered for the presentation** Your Escort: You may choose an escort yourself from among your male friends and family OR the planning committee will be able to find an escort for you. **We ask that you choose someone who has not been an escort before, to allow for many different young men to have the opportunity to escort

the young ladies of our church. The escort must be a practicing Orthodox Christian and age 15-19.** You hair: You will have the opportunity to get your hair done by a professional stylist before the festivities begin. Photos: Formal photos will be taken prior to the presentation. Formal pictures will include photos of the debutante alone, with her family, with her escort, and a group photo. Attendance: Your attendance is required throughout the entire Family Life Conference. There will be many events in which the debutantes AND the escorts will be presented and introduced. You will be provided with a discounted delegate package including tickets to all events and nametags clearly identifying you as a debutante. A full schedule for the debutantes will be given out at a later

date. Some of these events in which debutantes and escorts will be require to attend include: AROY/ VATRA Olympics and AROY workshops; a debutante/escort luncheon (for debutantes, escorts and their parents); the Hierarchal Liturgy and the Sunday Banquet. **It is expected that debutantes and escorts are an example for their peers and attend church services.** Registration: To register, please fill out the attached form along with the following: -a 5x7 photo of yourself ** must be clear enough to use in a display/formal program** -an attached document with answers to the following questions:

(1)What has been the most influential/ meaningful activity you’ve participated in through the church and why? (2)How has your spiritual life helped you to become the person you are today? (3)Why is it important to stay active in the church past high school? How will you stay active in your church in the years to come? (4)Random Questions:

(a)What did you want to be when you were a kid? (b)If you had a million dollars, what charity would you donate to and why? (c)Favorite bible verse
