MARVELLOUS ME has been a great success and thank you for the amazing 87% of parents who have signed up. We hope everyone can sign up so please do see your child’s teacher if there is a problem! HARVEST THANKSGIVING is upon us and we will be collecting donations of harvest food from Monday 26 September . Please ensure all donations are non-perishable and in date! This year’s Harvest Festival Services will all be held in the school hall on Friday 30 September . Unfortunately, Father Stu and Father James cannot lead our Harvest Festival in Church this year so we are holding this year’s services in the school hall . Parents are welcome for the Early Years/ KS1 Service at 11.15am but unfortunately we will not have enough space for parents to join the KS2 Harvest celebration this year. MSJ 100 Club – Congratulations ! The August Draw Winners are: 1 st Holly Arnold (No 45) 2 nd Anon (No 62) 3 rd Anon (No 97) The new 100 Club for 2016/217 is now open. £12.00 for annual entry into the Club. A draw is made each month, with a chance to win a percentage of the total subscriptions. The more people that enter, the bigger the monthly prizes. Entry forms have been sent home in book bags or are available from the school office. The closing date is Wednesday 21 September . The first PFA Meeting of this year will be held on Wednesday 21 September at 7.30pm in the Studio. We are always looking for new members to help us with ideas and the planning of future events. Everyone welcome! ROALD DAHL DAY AT MSJ We had an amazing day celebrating Roald Dahl Day with a parade in the playground and a visit from ‘Farmer Bean’ from Fantastic Mr Fox! Elsa Read, 2S ~ “I enjoyed seeing all the different costumes in the school”. Isaac Martin, 1B ~ “I enjoyed retelling the Roald Dahl story with puppets! SWIMMING POOL ~ Our newly refurbished pool will be ready for the first swimming lessons from next week. The deeper pool will enable Years 4, 5 & 6 pupils to develop their swimming further with Mrs Abley for one term each year. Lessons cost £15.00 per term, which is incredible value, and parents can pay online via their WisePay account. From week commencing Monday 19 September, the swimming timetable will be as follows: Monday afternoon - Year 2, Wednesday morning ~ Reception Year, Year 1 and Wednesday afternoon Year 3. Friday afternoon ~ Year 6 (Autumn Term), Year 5 (Spring Term), Year 4 (Summer Term). SWIMMING CONTRIBUTIONS FOR AUTUMN TERM 2016 ARE NOW DUE ~ Contributions towards the Autumn Term’s swimming tuition for Reception Year, Years 1, 2 and 3 are now due. Please make your payment of £15.00 online at WisePay. (Or £45.00 for the whole year). Payment of £15.00 for Year 6 pupils’ swimming in the Autumn Term is also due. Individual letters will be sent to parents whose payments are overdue. Thank you. Year 6 Swimming on Friday afternoon - please ensure that your child has their swimming kit (including swimming hat) in school on Fridays. Boys should wear swim trunks, not shorts. If any parents are able to come along and help supervise in the changing room please advise the school office.

Welcome back to a new school year.

MARVELLOUS ME has been a great success and thank you for the

BOOK CLUB with Mrs Lane has started again at lunchtimes. If you have any books (in good condition) that you would like to donate to the

school library, please bring them in to the school office. Thank you.

START THE DAY THE SAMBA WAY! Applications are now being taken for our Samba Drumming Band which meets in the Hall on Thursday mornings at 08.25 - 08.55. The sessions, led by Simon Mellish of Percussion Works Drum Teaching Studio, are open to all pupils who will be in Years 2- 6. Instruments are provided. There will be 10 sessions during the Autumn Term at a total cost of £10.00.

Please book places via WisePay, a minimum of 15 pupils is required to run the band. Dates of the sessions will be issued once this number is reached. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to be in touch with Nicky Armstrong in the School Office.

Have we got your correct contact details? Please remember to keep the school office updated of any change to your contact details, eg new home, mobile or work telephone numbers, new email address or new home address. It is vitally important that we are able to contact you should there be an emergency or should your child become unwell. Also, many of our letters and messages home will now be sent by email / text ~ if we don’t have your correct contact details you may miss out on important information, If you do not wish the school to communicate with you electronically please advise the school office.

There will be some new After School Clubs running from week commencing 26 September. These are:

Years 4, 5 & 6 Running Club on Tuesdays at 3.30-4.30pm from 27 September on the school field to begin with and later in the term on Redhill Common.

Years 5 & 6 Netball Club on Thursdays at 3.30-4.30pm from 29 September on the school playground.

Years 3 & 4 Hockey Club on Fridays at 3.30-4.30 from 30 September on the school playground or in the hall if weather is bad.

Signing-up sheets are pinned up on the Sports Noticeboard in the Year 5 corridor, so if your child is interested in joining, could they please sign-up on the relevant sheet. Permission letters will be coming home next week for parents/carers to sign.

SAFEGUARDING MATTERS: PUPIL ABSENCE Please remember to advise the Office if your child is unable to come to school. Absence without reason is considered a safeguarding matter.

You can report your child’s absence in any of the following ways:

Children who are suffering from diarrhoea and/or vomiting should NOT return to school until 48 hours after the last episode of illness to prevent the spread of infection.

With regard to holiday leave, this can only be authorised in exceptional circumstances. A Leave in Term Time Request Form is available from the Office or may be downloaded from the school website or Moodle.

Parents/Carers - Please be aware that we have had

reports of needles/syringes being found in the roads around school and in the churchyard.

The Community Police Officers have been informed.
