Pre-Sewing

It is much easier to make this quilt if you construct all of the flying geese and HST units in advance.

All flying geese measure 2” by 3.5” unfinished.The wings are cut at 2” unfinished, sewn on the diagonal to the center goose unit.The center unit measures 2” by 3.5” unfinished.

There are many methods for creating flying geese. Choose your favorite.If you need help here is a good site:

Constructing your HST Units:

All half square triangles should measure 2” unfinished.

Step 1. Cut or assemble these units.

Assembling your units

Please pay close attention to the PRESSING PATTERN.

Step 2. Sew two of the flying geese to either side of the 3.5” square.

Press to the center.

Step 3. Sew a 2” Color 1 square to either side of the other flying geese units.

Press to the outside.

Step 4. Sew the sections from Step 1 to either side of the sawtooth star unit.

Press to the outside.

Step 5. Cut or assemble these units.

Assembling your units

Please pay close attention to the PRESSING PATTERN.

Step 6.Sew a 2” B1 square to either side of all of the flying geese (FG2) units.

Press to the center.Divide in half.

Step 7.Sew a 2” Color 1 square to either side of half of the units from Step 6.Press to the center.

Step 8. Sew units from Step 6 above to opposite sides of your sawtooth star units.Press to the outside.

Trim each corner leaving a ¼” seam allowance.Press to the outside.

Sew a 2” square of B1 to either side of HALF of the units from Step 4.Take care to have the HST units and FSG2 units in the correct direction.

Press to the OUTSIDE.

Step 6.Sew remaining units from Step 4 to either side of your Snowball Block from Step 2.Take care to orient these units in the right correct direction.

Press to the INSIDE.
